Dudes got their faces cut up...that is assault, no (?) As I heard the story, it was pretty one sided- Kids not involved with the show knifed and beat people who where at the show. Anyway, thanks a million to douche bags that feel the need to do this type of thing at shows in particular and anywhere in general. Kids need to realize that their actions have consequences and they they're not immortal. These are humans we're talking about, not fucking pixels in a computer game. You can't beat the shit out of someone with a skateboard or a 2x4 and expect everything to be fine. People die. Luckily no one was fatally wounded, but either way, the possibility was very high. How could someone have another person on the ground and continue to batter them with a weapon? I simply do not understand the logic. These kids need to pay for their actions. Remorse? Conscience? The police seem to be completely useless in the situation too and I will be furious if they actually let these little bastards away with what they did to totally innocent people. | Sati User Info... | Disgusting. My thoughts are with all those who were hurt or had to witness it. And everyone involved with the show too. I gathered from the news that those little pricks weren't even attending the event, and that security/staff probably didn't have a chance to deal with things as they happened because it went down After the show had wrapped up and Outside the venue. | Tambo User Info... | It started partway through theset's set, I was outside with Kyle Dark and Colin who was DJing, and some huge guy comes up and starts telling Colin that he was "beefing with his friends". It was ridiculous, as Colin was DJing the whole time, and had no idea what he was talking about. The guy left, uttering vows of violence etc. then their friends came back and shoved Kyle Plantinga into the building and threatened to kick his ass again. Anyway I was reading all the news reports on CFAX and Times Colonist and so far they have not used the words "concert" or "rock show" or anything like that in reporting the event - this could be good news. I think this means they know that the stabbings were not necessarily related to the show or its promoters, especially since it happened by and large after the show. I think to cover their butts they did not make the wrong assumption that it was caused BY the concert, that way they won't have to print a retraction later. Speedy recovery to the ones who were hurt. He didn't seem that worried about it, but I joked that I have his back if shit goes down. (Well, I do have his back, but I didn't expect any real threat.) Colin can talk his way out of anything, but it's fucking mental that it came to something serious on somebody else. As unsatisfying as this may sound, though, alienating and treating the people who did it harshly isn't going to solve anything, and it may lead to more (God forbid worse) bullshit in the future. I went and told James Kasper who runs the joint that there were some guys trying to start a fight and we went outside to see if they were still there and they were gone. I left about 5 minutes before they came back I want it known that closing the fernwood to shows will not stop this kind of senseless violence. The people who started this were not attending the show, they were kids high on coke wandering the neighborhood looking to start a fight, this could have been people leaving the Belfry or The Coblestone coffee shop for all they cared, instead it was an all ages show. I would also hope that even if the law doesn't give the justice we would expect for such an act that there would be no retaliation.
