ricky jak User Info... | HOLY SHIT MAN!!!! Just got back from the Island Hot Rod Invasion Friday night edition. The band Power Trip wher way metal! I fucking loved it. If Judas Priest and King Diamond where to mate and pop out a singer who kinda looks like Slim Shady but sang just like King Halford or Rob Diamond.... that would be Power Trip!!! They where refreshing and I needed the metal cords and beats this band was putting out!!! The opening band was Carrot and they definatly are growing into a watchable act.... Nirvanna comes to mind. Tommorrow night it's Rock-a-Billy with some mainland punk by the Zipp Gunns... - Fri, 17 Aug 2007 10:44pm
trevor corey User Info... | Geez, I wish I had of known. Maybe you could make these rave band reviews BEFORE a show so I'll know to attend. Sounds cool. - Sat, 18 Aug 2007 1:06am
ricky jak User Info... | Sorry tervor corey... this gig has become an anuall event that is a weekend long camping thing full of rat rods and motorcycles and greasy guys and maybe some greasey women and quite a few kids also... I think it was promoted here. But Hey Trevor Corey... Its $30 for a ticket or $50 for your whole family... you would have to have sold alot of weed to get your ticket and this event is absolutely DRUG FREE! It is also on a piece of property way up along the powerlines in Shawnigan Lake area... Pit party & motorhead fun. Stickshifts Car Club, Fools Car Club, Road Kutters CC Vancouver, Roadmen CC Washington... and more. It was a blast I got some pics for later. - Sun, 19 Aug 2007 6:45pm

ricky jak User Info... | O.K. my camera is not working properly so no pics... not that any of you wanted to see hot rods on a music site??? But back to music. Saterday the rains where torential and i'm sure this made a few too many cars stay home. But still the out of towners where crusing. about 2:00 the bands started... Killer Saints opened with apearantly surf sounds, that i missed...Dirt-Fella next with thier moderste mainstream sound and it was way too early for a crowd so they where basically background music for the mud pit socializing that was going on. Some pig roasting was done then the line up for food. The Stickshifts really put on a good spread of food with corn, spuds, roast beef, chicken and ohhhh yes salad for those healthy type. With the bellys full Hank Angel and his Island devils started with some quick stepping rock-a-billy, good dance music. Slim Sandy just continued the dance with more billy... The host then took to the stage and said the f word more than a hardcore rapper. He left then we geared up for the Slick Jacks with a faster paced rock-a-billy. The sun was way down and the muddy dancefloor was now fuller as the partiers where really starting to pull. I found a nice corner by the speaker and braced myself for the next act.... THE MAGS... they played this event last year and the crowd loved em. After a few fuse blows they got to start thier set and front man belted out songs like a auctioneer gone mad. I still like this band! I think Betinna and her tattooed friend came on stage next with thier burlesque.... I kid you not the surrounding fields of campers instantly came forward and the perimeter of the stage was full of Dads and thier sons and a handfull of moms wanting to get a peek at these teasing women. Now I'm sure this was the first time these classy ladies have ever did thier show on the back of a car hauling trailer. anyway they stirred the minds of all the hill-billies and later on the tent was a puffin with memories of Betinna and friend.... ahhh the the truth eh!!!! Now enter the adrenelin FOOL fronted band called the ZIPP GUNS from Vancouver. Hold on and BAM its like your in a Juicey Fruit commercial at 78 RPM. This band turned the dance floor into even more mudd... and the dancers became even muddier. GREAT BAND for young and old.... it was PUNK ROCK with firecrackers. The beer was still flowwing and veterins the DEADCATS where closing this live music protion of the event. This band has many years of rockin the west caost and even though they look older then your socks they still turn out some fine tunes. I can't think of a better band to end this deep-woods car/hillbilly/motorcycle/foodeating/boozin/dancin/whatever event!!! They finnishe and most where ready for thier tents, but those who weren't got to see a pillow fight with some lucky doode and Betinna and friend. After that the soundman but on some high volume speed metal! YEAH! anyway maybe next year if your not too stoned and you can get your moms car keys... come on up. -ricky - Thu, 23 Aug 2007 4:18am

Shiny User Info... | Eh Ricky, Thanx for the review. And yes I did post it on here but there was no replys and seemed to be no interest.I guess people on here don't want to bring their kids up to watch rockabilly and PUNK ROCK going all weekend long, while campin out between hot rods, customs and ciccles from all over the Pacific NorthWest. We had over 400 people here with about 100 cars/bikes. Next year will be even bigger but we don't want it too huge. It'll be organized and go off with a bang as well. The cops showed up to check out Travis' 12,000 watt system but they loved the tunes and left us alone. We had over 12 bands and two burlesque shows.Kids games and activities going all weekend long. If your into all this stuff then come on up next August. I'll post info on this board again. Tix will be pre-sales only next year, too many walk up one night partiers don't mix with the partying kid friendly atmosphere were trying to have! Theres info at http://www.hotrodinvasion.com Hats off to all my StickShifts Hot Rod Gang,we pulled off an unreal only in Cananda hot rod hootenanny. Were lookin for a few bands for next year.So if your a punk or rockabilly band drop us a line and we'll see if we can squeeze ya in next year. Also watch for us to put on some killer and cool hot rod shows threwout the rest of the year too. -Shiny and the StickShifts - Mon, 27 Aug 2007 9:52am
