Sati User Info... | Turned out to be an excellent show for the 20 or so people who showed up for it. Don't know why it wasn't even listed in the Straight, but the lack of promotion on so many of these touring metal shows sure sucks for everyone concerned. If I'd seen or heard anything letting me know how great these bands were, I might have taken the the show more seriously. As it was I only really came out for Luciferian Conquest, but ended up staying cuz they ended up being on 2nd instead of opening. Warmarch played the night before with Tyrants Blood at the Cobalt to lots of people. No one seemed to know anything about them, and they were billed as "black metal", which didn't seem accurate. To be honest, I didn't like it and thought of leaving a few minutes in, but stayed around pretty much to point & laugh at some crusty friends who were "boogying" to it. Then I finally got it, and there were quite a few (faster) parts of their set that I thought were nothing less than brilliant. Woah, the disparity! Very cool band. LC have so many impressive elements in their favor, but its still early for them so I feel like they haven't quite jelled yet. They've got at least a couple of excellent songs though, and watching any individual player is worthwhile. I think being a bunch of partying band-whores may have something to do with their coming off a bit scattered so far, haha! Anyway, their new singer has helped convey a more focussed strength & conviction to what they're getting at, so I'm sure they'll be blowing minds soon enough. Even though the room was near empty, I was happier than a piggy in shit, cuz by the end pretty much all my favorite metalheads turned up - the ones who're at every metal show, banging at the front of the stage, starting up the pit, yelling louder & buying more merch than anyone, sporting every local & touring bands' shit, and always the ones most stoked about the next shows. And they were GOING OFF about those bands, so as usual, they're the ones that really matter. Poor turnouts aren't so embarassing when we've got a half dozen fans like that representing. I liked Damascus a lot (preferred their style), and so did they, but I think in the end they loaded up with way more Blinded by Faith stuff. BbF played like they were playing out to a full stadium, that ruled. Those were some excellent bands - next time definately make sure they make it to Victoria. I'm pretty sure you've got some promoters out there who'd be stoked about inviting people out to see them! - Sun, 29 Jul 2007 5:45pm Edited: Sun, 29 Jul 2007 5:48pm | ||
