Tyler User Info... | Fun show. A 40-minute interview with Andrew Neufeld will be aired on CFUV 101.9 ( http://cfuv.uvic.ca to listen online) this thursday at 8pm. I thought it was ridiculous to pay $30 to see a hardcore band but Andrew himself said it was out of his hands and this current tour has had the highest Comeback Kid ticket prices ever, mainly because of touring with Rise Against and Silverstein. It also wasn't cool that there was a barrier, limiting stagedives and singalongs, something else that Andrew himself voiced dissatisfaction over. The opening band wasn't really my kind of thing. Female-fronted radio rock. Whatever. But then Comeback Kid went on, playing a bunch of songs from every single album. I got a full video of their set and a bunch of pictures which I'll probably post here and later on http://xtylerx.tk sometime. There was so much energy and I was excited about all the closet-CBK fans in Victoria, who really need to start going out to the smaller hardcore shows. I was covered in sweat and screaming along to nearly every song. The sound was good, nice and loud, and the place was packed full. I think Silverstein went on after that. I'm not really sure. Some band with hilarious music. I left during their first song. All in all, good to see a bunch of other people I knew there who managed to cough up the $30 or find other ways to get tickets. It was awesome to get a chance to interview a band I've been loving since their first full length album. Andrew does a really good job as the frontman, I actually enjoyed this show more than the previous time I saw Comeback Kid in Vancouver when Scott was still doing vocals. Which is crazy, because that show was full of hardcore kids, rather than caked-makeup Zone listeners, and that Van show had no barrier. I think I was just less tired this time and had more of a chance to let loose. - Mon, 23 Jul 2007 4:57pm Edited: Mon, 23 Jul 2007 5:04pm
Jeremy Baker User Info... | Tyler, you're cute. --- The next band after Comeback Kid was a group called Silverstein... their style sounds a little dated now but I can see them being all the rage back in 2003. Their sound was really good. Kids seemed to really jive on them. Next up, Rise Against. I dig these guys and was not happy with this show. Curling Club has to be the worst place to see a show. I don't know what happend to the great sound of Silverstein but the vocals for Rise Against were terrible and I had a hard time enjoying the show because it. The Minor Threat cover was anice touch... but unnessasry really... Like Tyler was lamenting, hard to preach the ethos of a band like Minor Threat when charging $30 for a punk show. I think that will be my last time going to Curling Club. I think it is time to lobby whoever it needs to be toi get Open Air brought back. Some great shows were ruined b/c of... I dunno... whatever caused Open Air to get the axe and Curling Club to step into the void. Great crowd, sold out... must be lots of Comeback Kid fans in Victoria! :-) - Mon, 23 Jul 2007 6:26pm

Tito Santana User Info... | rise against had the most annoying light show i've ever seen. and they wouldn't open the doors even when people were passing out from the heat. not a fun show. - Mon, 23 Jul 2007 6:56pm
Jeremy Baker User Info... | I might see if Alan Low wants to come on the radio today and talk about where Open Air went and what is being done to bring it back. This summer, concerts were a painful ordeal to enjoy. Deftones really made me sad as I was excited for that show and couldn't get into it with the billion degree heat and insane sound (or lack there of in the beginning). - Tue, 24 Jul 2007 10:11am
