Sati User Info... | Mine's going great, its been nonstop. Saw some jazz Thursday, not bad. Friday more jazz, then headed over to see Zuckuss & caught one of the openers, Noodled touring from Saskatchewan who I quite liked. And I discovered you don't want to be directly up front at Zuckuss cuz he likes to kick his kilt up a lot, yikes. Damn he's worse than the mckenzies. Despite that...... I love them. Saturday more jazz and then went down for the Feminists & Karen Foster at the Red Room, nice & they played lots of new stuff. Then I braved the Jaks thing and was blown away by Dry Fisted & Keg Killers, what an EXCELLENT night at the Cobalt!! Especially seeing that obnoxious guy crapping his pants/running from the KK singer like a little girl, HAHA! Today I went down to see Limb from Limb play an all ager with the Sask. bands. Sparky were cool and LfL were awesome, but it was LOUD and hard to hear. Tonight I'm heading down to 340 to wind it all up with some metal. YAY, killer wknd! - Sun, 1 Jul 2007 7:17pm Edited: Sun, 1 Jul 2007 7:19pm
trevor corey User Info... | The "KK singer" had someone in a headlock at the Logan's show too. I have no idea what it was about, but it seemed to end without too much trouble. - Mon, 2 Jul 2007 10:25pm
Jeremy Baker User Info... | my weekend was good. The National at Richards on Friday in Van. Played all the songs I came to see. Bartender didn't charge for pops for my sober girlfriend and I like bartenders do that. Saturday was Band of Horses back here in Victoria at Sugar. Good show, they played tons of their soon to be new roecord and *most* of the their stellar 2006 record UT they missed a couple tracks which was sad... "I Go to the barn..." and "St. Augustine" which also happen to be a couple of my faves PLUS everyone just up and left after the show... no big cheer to try and drag them out to play those last two tracks. Made me sad. But still a very good show and liking the sound of the new tracks. The opening band from South Carolina? A decent Animal... not so much a fan, sorta too sleepy even for me. - Tue, 3 Jul 2007 6:28pm
Sati User Info... | I honestly don't know how those guys can keep from beating on a couple of their crew, really. That was my favorite show of the wknd cuz it was so much fun, but whatever happened to drunk, sloppy punk? they were good. And regarding Richards, thats wierd, I remember hating those bartenders, you must drink a lot! This wknd's going to be difficult - there are at least 3 good shows on each night. Not only are they all cool bands, but they're mostly people I know. I suppose things could be worse! - Wed, 4 Jul 2007 11:33pm Edited: Wed, 4 Jul 2007 11:33pm
Jeremy Baker User Info... | Sati, you're right... I *used* to hate Richards too... When I was younger... shows there would make me sad because of the lame ealry show, pricey beers and rude staff. But lately, much better. The friday show was Richard's main event so they didn't kick everyone out early to go all danc epop, beers were under a $5'er each and my bartender was a total sweetheart. - Thu, 5 Jul 2007 6:19pm
Haden User Info... | Man...I started to listen to The National a week too late. I had no idea they just played Vancouver....:( - Tue, 10 Jul 2007 5:53pm
Jeremy Baker User Info... | great record eh? I am sure they'll be back. - Wed, 11 Jul 2007 6:14pm
Sati User Info... | Hey JB, I guess I'm not the only one who gets "sad" due to venue shortcomings. I don't mind so much when its struggling bars just learning how on no rsources, but it sucks harder when its established, big money places. Glad Richard's is better to you now! So I saw DOA last wknd for WhoElse's b'day party - that was pretty good, and Plow messed up his DOA song after he looked over at Shithead, HAHAHA! I wanted to hit Bison's cd release Friday, but it seemed way busy so I bailed. & Saturday was Evilfest! - Wed, 18 Jul 2007 11:43am Edited: Wed, 18 Jul 2007 11:45am
Sati User Info... | Mmmm-hmmmmmm, there's nothing I look forward to more than running around alone in the heart of our downtown eastside on a dark & rainy night just to be able to catch some decent shows. Screw you, city! - Fri, 20 Jul 2007 9:52pm
trevor corey User Info... | Do you wear steel toes and kevlar when you go down there? - Sun, 22 Jul 2007 10:50pm
Sati User Info... | My greatest defence are running shoes & a disinterested, deadpan demeanor. And never getting too drunk. I walk faster than ANYONE else, and when crossing Hastings & Main I get someone to walk me or get the Balmoral door guy to keep an eye out. And always avoid the SW/Carnegie Centre corner, ew. Its also worth walking a few blocks west rather than catching the latenight buses on Hastings closer to Pub 340 or the Lamplighter. Do you guys have to be that strategic/careful with your plans getting home in Victoria? Anyway, I caught a bit of the China Creeps that night but the sound wasn't too great, so I skipped Agent Orange & went over to see SNFU. Packed beyond belief, but well worth every second. - Wed, 25 Jul 2007 11:56am Edited: Wed, 25 Jul 2007 11:59am
