Message Board > Show Reviews > SMOKED OUT BRAINZZZ with Sweat Hogs and Gashly Crumb @ Soundgarden Fri. Feb. 7'03 |
Frank | I only got there for the last band, Smoked Out Brainzzz. And boy were they ever. I was mesmerized from the moment I laid eyes and ears on the band. I looked around and everyone else was entranced as well, and for good reason. The sound was not anything I had heard before, and yet my inner being recognized every note and every sound as something calling from somewhere even deeper. The place was dancing, the girls were glancing, and the boys were prancing. Hell, everyone was dancin', glancin', @ prancin'. Some songs were rude, some were angry, some were surreal, trippy, and into the outerspace of your mind. The tempo of the band was upbeat for the most part, but it could slow down for a song or two while the singer/bass player sang and spoke words you sometimes wished he wouldn't. Blistering guitar when nessesary, and yet lyrical as hell at other more delicate moments. But there is nothing delicate about this band I tell you. Nobody could believe what they saw. There is a buzz about this band in this town, and now I know why. - Tue, 18 Feb 2003 10:42pm
Dave | My friends made me go to the show, and to my surprise, I didn't wanna leave. The Brainzzz were awesome. I even bought a CD after the show, and once I took it home and listened to it, I realized that there are two different sides to this band: the live show and the recorded Brainzzz. I've never heard anyone play the bass the way the singer did. He's taken bass playing into a new realm. I have to idea how he gets the sounds that he does. I woke up the next morning with a hundred images of the night before swirling in my head. The next time they play here, it will be me urging friends to the show. - Wed, 19 Feb 2003 3:48pm

Sack sucking hippies | Send all the hippies to the Kooteneys to clear brush. Then we can force them all to at least brush thier teeth. - Sat, 22 Feb 2003 1:49am

GeilGirl | I saw the Smoked Out Brainzzz play and the bassist was the best, I must agree, but the guitarist came a close second. The drummer and conga players were wicked too. - Sat, 22 Feb 2003 7:36pm

Zippgunn User Info... | I'm kind of tired of the chickenshit anon slagger's schtick, myself. I let everyone know who I am because I stand behind what I say; if I make a mistake I admit it. I'm a big boy. I'm pretty opinionated, but I think most would agree I've at least earned my opinions. And I'm actually a nice guy. The only reason I check this often purile website out is because it purports to champion the Victoria music scene which is something I care deeply about. You can slag me all you want; I can use the laughs. All I have to do to feel good about myself is to listen to any of the 250 or so CD's records tapes whatever that I've had a hand in creating (almost all of which are from Victoria and many of which would never have seen the light of day had I not been involved) and I laugh all the harder at the impotent whining of the gutless anon slag twats. - Fri, 28 Feb 2003 11:06pm
