Sati User Info... | Well, the show was a lot of fun, but I can't say that its my favorite of his projects. I actually think his performance was probably more amongst his lamest - like when he started out impersonating others a la early faith no more kind of lame. Technical abilities all accounted for, but so what. At other shows I was blown away by all that precision & ENERGY in his voice, but this time nothing he did, nor his "presence" seemed like any big deal. I guess it makes sense given that Peeping Tom's supposed to be a lighter effort, more commercial, mildly catchy etc, but it was a bit of a let down, because it was HIM and my expectations were high. And I really don't see him as possessing enough wit to spend THAT much time bantering with the crowd. Even though it was all in good fun, it seemed dull in comparison to what he can usually deliver in performance. But then, I've always thought that about him - you don't have to play the entertainer, shut up and sing! Especially trying to pull off that hip-hop charade, I mean come on, he's gotta know how weak that came off. And it really didn't seem like anyone onstage was regarding that night as one of their strongest connections with each other & the crowd, judging by the overall energy level. The sound was overly bassy. I wasn't too impressed by the drummer trying to get all heavy during his solo. But Dan the Automator delivered a great, positive vibe, and so did Imani Coppola, all sexy, sultry and theatrical, though I wouldn't call her the most soulful violinist or vocalist. grumble grumble grumble That said, it was definately an all 'round enjoyable evening with lots of singing along & dancing. A smokin' party! But the high point of the evening BY FAR was his little beatboxing/vocalist chick Butterscotch, who he gave about five minutes on her own to, early on in. Every part of my body was swaying & twitching along - unbelievable abilities at just 20 years old! She hands down, stole the show. The crowd went nuts and were louder for her than at any other point in the evening. I think he even said we could just all go home now. How the hell she nailed a beat, kept all those sexy bass sounds moving and sang so sweetly at the same time, I'll never know. Nothing that night rocked like those few minutes - she had it all flowing. The rest of the night she came off sweet, eager, green and wise beyond her years, all at the same time. It was like one of those moments you remember and look back to as you (hopefully) are lucky enough to witness a remarkable talent's career unfold. Haden User Info... | I saw their set at Coachella and Butterscotch brought down the house. Unfortunately, Dan the Automator's gear seemed to be having issues with the sound equipment at the stage....or vica versa probably. Sound issues definately was a noticable thing at Coachella. He still ruled even though not able to use half his stuff. But Butterscotch was the highlight. Still enjoyed the set as well. The crowd loved it. - Tue, 1 May 2007 11:21pm Edited: Tue, 1 May 2007 11:23pm | ||
