I had such a good time (drinking tons of crappy american beer, checking out great bands, at the best outdoor venue I've been to).

Unfortunately we didn't get to the site in time for Wolfmother or Trail of Dead, on Friday, but Bauhaus and NIN put on entertaining sets. I've never been a huge Nine Inch Nails fan, but their live show was impressive.

On Saturday I caught Rogue Wave, Gomez, Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks, Band of Horses, leading up to the highlight of the day: getting pelted with hail while the Constantines tore up the side stage. The PA shorted out 20 minutes into their set, but the energy of the band, and arrival of the hail storm had the crowd in a frenzy. The shortest and most memorable set of the weekend. That was the end of the side stage on Saturday (the Constantines didn't get to finish, and Sam Roberts didn't play at all).

Saturday Continued with the Tragically Hip, who I stopped listening to in high school. They played a short, entertaining set, and brought the crowd back to life after the 90 minute weather delay. There were tons of Canadians in the crowd - after the Hip we hit the beer lounge and watched the end of the Oilers game. The lounge was packed with cheering Oiler fans. A bit un-expected at an outdoor venue in the middle of Washington state.

The day ended with a long boring set from Ben Harper, followed by a great over the top performance from the Flaming Lips.

Sunday was great from start to finish. We checked out sets by: Nada Surf, Actic Monkeys, Ben Lee, We Are Scientists, Matisyahu, Queens of the Stone Age, Death Cab for Cutie, and Beck. Beck had a full puppet show, with marionets mimicking the band's every move on stage.

I liked them. They played a cruisy, melodic, rock set to start things out on Saturday. There's video footage of their set, and tons more at MSN video. I belive that they'll be adding footage over the next few days. Be sure to check out the Neko Case / Constantines footage (as the hail came down). The Constantines playing "Young Lions" was one of the highlights of my weekend. I can even spot myself, in that clip, jumping around like a fool.

I wish I could've gone to Sasquatch, but the bank account is deep in the red. Speaking of the Constantines, did you see them at Lucky on May 24th? It was an absolutely amazing show.

Anyone who was there: wtf was up with the bass player being covered in blood and looking totally fucked up? - Thu, 1 Jun 2006 5:24pm

Soap Dodger - thanks for the link. Sounds like it must have been an awesome time, I'm jealous!

And you're right, the Constantines bassist looked like he was in a bit of a bad way at the Lucky show...

I missed the Lucky show - knowing I'd get to see them at Sasquatch, which was already going to be an expensive weekend. Had I known how good they are live I would have gone to both for sure. I'll be there next time they're in town. - Fri, 2 Jun 2006 10:00am
