_Griphin_ User Info... | Had I known Neverending White Lights (that's such a cool projekt, yes I'm a mark fer The Grace (feat. Dallas Green from AlexIsOnFire)) and Jets Overhead were playing, I would of gone to it, and left before Our Lady Peace took the stage (I've never been a fan). Anyone go to this concert and can type up a quick review?!? BTW: Why does Dallas Green sound better on a mellow track then he does SCREAMING OUT LYRICS?!? - Wed, 26 Apr 2006 11:26pm Edited: Wed, 26 Apr 2006 11:39pm
Aidan User Info... | Yea I went, kind of last minute because my friend had an extra ticket. The first band pedestrian I thought was really bad. The songs seemed really incoherent and boring. Jets overhead and Neverending white lights were both really good. Now I've never liked OLP, but they played extremely well. In my mind they were the best show of the night. The show changed my mind completely about what I think of OLP. Mind you now when I listen to their recordings, they still kind of suck. Overall it was a good show though. - Thu, 27 Apr 2006 12:08am Edited: Thu, 27 Apr 2006 12:12am
XY-? User Info... | Jets over head where very good .......of course I got in late and heard only two songs, I think ? But the one that’s getting airplay was done very well ! And co douse on getting such a big gig ! The never-ending white lights .. welll.. seemed never-ending . The music was played ok, but just not my taste. I thought they( He) had a good performance , but I kept waiting for it to speed up and get heavy , but it became apparent that it was not . They did a great set … just a little sleepy for me . I should say, I was not going to this show but I also got a call at the last minute for free tickets and it was with a friend who has never been to a large concert of any kind . That blew me away, because this friend is 36 ! I have to go, COME ON ? Yea I had the pleasure of escorting her to her first big show ! I was honored and it was a gas ! I'm really not a OLP fan but I've kept track of the their albums and have been noticing their writing skills to be getting better and better each album . This last release I thought was one of their best and I was getting more respect ( or you could call it a liking ) for what they've accomplished. But still stayed true to their sound, without falling into that emo graveyard of has-beens . BUT !! They rocked and had freaking awesome musical skills and stage presence . The Stage was set up right and lighting was spectacular , very mood setting . They kept me interested and built up with ever song . I guess from years and years of touring you get it mastered and can bring the audience alone with you for the ride . The place was packed but till comfortable and the security almost went unnoticed and pleasant . Very nice employs and it came across as a big party, then more of a police action which I saw non of. And you know me, I'm at a concert so I'm probably doing something illegal ! LOL! ...or maybe they thought GRAMPS was taking his grand daughter to a concert ? We met a few people from Washington state up for the show and were yanking with multitudes of youngins . Even bumped into a few people I hadn't seen in awhile .. very cooo! OLP had me hooked right after the first number. And my friend and I sang their songs out loud and danced in the seats with our fellow row persons ... It was a freakin great first concert ! They were cheered on for a encore and played just enough not to bore me to tears ! Thank you OLP!lol NOW . The sound was catastrophic, you couldn't hear the singer . The singer is OLP , so that was disappointing ,just not enough to call the show crap … which it was not . The bands were up to playing. to bad the arena or sound persons were not . Call it that you well and the sound blasted out, but just laid flat , ……..you know like playing in a barn ? Nudge Nudge! Wink Wink ! LOL The sound was to low and the funny thing is, I thought they always turn the volume down for the opening acts, but when OLP came on it was the same . If that's what that arena is going to sound like…. they really need to think about doing some acoustical mods on the place .Now if it was the sound people? ....they F'd up royally . All in all it was a freaking great show , the crowd was fantastic ( maybe a few too many people sitting at the beginning of OLP ), we had a awesome time and ALL the bands I saw were very good, especially OLP ! THE SOUND SUCKED AND THAT IS VERY SAD ! Cheers Lance - Thu, 27 Apr 2006 7:09pm
cooper User Info... | Just got back from the Vancouver show at the Centre for the Performing Arts...it exceeded my expectations by a long shot! I missed Pedestrian. Didn't catch all of Jets Overhead, unfortunately...not too happy about that. They put on a great performance though. Neverending White Lights were cool. Todd Kerns from Age of Electric sang The Grace. Raine Maida got the crowd so into it after a mellow start...got a few dozen audience members up on stage with 'em, and he went out into the audience to watch them sing along. All in all I was super impressed with both their showmanship and musicianship, and have a newfound respect for the band, and the new-ish guitarist in particular. Other than too-quiet vocals, the sound was perfect for all the bands. Hey Griph - Dallas doesn't do screaming duties in AlexisOnFire...that would George. - Fri, 28 Apr 2006 2:25am
_Griphin_ User Info... | Oops, shows just how much I know about {IWish} AlexWasOnFire (err... AlexIsOnFire :). - Fri, 28 Apr 2006 11:23am
Mofo User Info... | Hey, I didn't go to the show but to the guy who talked about the acoustics in the Save on Food centre, you are fucking bang on man. Whoever designed that place was either deaf or just wasn't thinking of acoustics, more like asthetics. I have heard of quite a few people saying that the sound was shitty, Def Leppard goers said the same thing. Maybe they should just rename the place to Save on Sound center? - Fri, 28 Apr 2006 11:43am
Rex User Info... | I have to agree about the sound. Absolute shit. You could hear Raine singing but it was all so muffled and garbled that it was impossible to make out words. It seemed to me that when OLP took the stage they cranked the guitars and drums to 11 but forgot to balance the rest of the band. Thankfully he uses good vocal melodies and the songs are ridiculously catchy. ********** I really enjoyed Pedestrian. Far more than I enjoyed Jets Overhead who insisted on dragging out 2 minutes worth of decent musicianship into 6-10 minute spells of boring repition. Neverending White Lights were about what I excpected having listened to the album. The singer should NEVER AGAIN try and sing The Grace. It may be his own song but he murdered it anyways. OLP, apart from the poor sound :(, absolutely blew me away. I love it when a band plays different versions of their songs than the ones you hear on an album. Clumsy, slowed-down at first, and One Man Army, with the crazy siren sound, were my favourites. I would definitely go see all these bands again. Except for Jets Overhead. - Fri, 28 Apr 2006 3:33pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | What's up with the Arena?!? I keep hearing complaints that the acoustics suck in the Arena. - Fri, 28 Apr 2006 7:33pm
