Just got back from Van...played with Excessives, The Draft and The Likey Lads on Sat night @ Pub 340...WHERE DO i START?

Our first gig in Vancouver since 1997 and I'm reminded that some things never change. For instance...the lack of fucking communication. Billed as Pierre's Birthday Party - he's the promoter and a good guy I'm told - the show was sold out, but in the end, when all the money got counted, Breach, the only out of town band on the bill got 100 bux! I was under the impression we weren't going to pay to play this time...Pierre was so wasted by the time we got there I don't think he or anyone else really gave a shit we had to pay about 250 bux just to get our bodyies and gear there and back. Oh well, no offence to Pierre or anyone at Pub 340...the next time we play we'll get it right.

The first band was the Likey Lads. From what I remember they were pretty fucking rad...snotty, attitude punk with some funky costumes...

Up next was The Draft...with super sexy singer Mya Mayhem fronting old school street-punk stylings. They ripped it up and got the crowd going.

We (Breach) played next to a bigger, drunker crowd filled with friends wwe haven't seen in a while so that was rad. I think we played pretty good. Lots of energy from the boys and a good respponse from the crowd. I forgot the words to one of our oldest songs, slipped off the stage and got a face full of bass from Zac who stopped playing for a second to see if I was going to start bleeding. We didn't miss a beat and had a blast.

The Excessives were up next. Shad, Jon Zero, Jamie and Eddie Big Beers got this shit dialed and killed it as usual. Fast, tight, heavy hardcore punk-rock! I have to appologize to Trevor of The Excessives. See, I've never really asked if he minds that every time I see them play I get up on stage multiple times to sing back ups. This time was no exception. You see, I get so jazzed up I end up trying to make myself a part of the band and can't except that I've already had my 15 seconds. I was sure they didn;t mind...but half way through the set I noticed the back-up mic unplugged. A hint maybe?

After the show we all bailed in different directions. I hit up an after party in Gastown that was pretty cool. Joe King Jak and Jesse Jak were there and kept in fun until Joe nodded-off in midd sentence and hit his head on a radiator. He was out cold and bleeding pretty bad from above his right eye. Instantly everyone who's seen more than one episode of ER jumps in trying to play hero and there's more arguing about who's gonna help Joe than actually helping the man! Jesse took charge - fuck, he's jak's - and things were calmed down. IU left the party at 4 and Joe seemed alright...all's well I hope.

Expect to see The Draft, The Excessives, The Likley Ldas and other killer Vancouver bands live at 'The Concrete Jungle' (Live shows at The Jungle Room) beginning in May.

Rock on...jake - Mon, 3 Apr 2006 9:17pm Edited: Mon, 3 Apr 2006 10:19pm
