Happy healing to the girl with green dreads that got her shit mashed up against the gate all night.

Removal rocked! I bought two of thier discs only to find out one is defective, big time sad, kinda like gettin a remote control car at Christmastime with no batteries. Anyone know if they will be around in the near future? Any pics? - Sat, 18 Feb 2006 2:15pm

@Whiskey: hibernation and retirement are two different things. It's been damn near two years since NMN has played here. I think that's what they meant.
Budokan weren't that bad at all. Maybe not as heavy as the other two bands, but cool none the less.
Removal were BADASS! I was totally reminded of Jesus Lizard without the insane vocalist. I was stoked.
Nomeansno played FOR FUCKING EVER! Seriously, a two hour set showcasing much of the material from their upcoming record. It was good. I got really excited with the ol' 1-2-3 punch of Tuck It Away --> Manic Depression --> The Tower. So damn good. Lots from "Wrong" in the encores and finishing off with Cats, Sex and Nazis was the icing on the cake.

Great show. Too bad the booze is so damn expensive at Sugar. - Sat, 18 Feb 2006 3:52pm

removal where just like seeing a version of no means no backing up no means no.

I missed Budokon but would have liked to have seen them rather than removal.

It was fun & lots of fun people and the place was going off! I seriously haven't seen NMN for over ten years.
Victoria has spawned two classic bands.... NMN & the Dayglos.
Three dollars and a can of food used to be the admission to the gig.... but now it's 15 dollars and you get frisked down at the door like a criminal.... but No Means No where worth it!? especially the extended dance version of Bruno. - Sat, 18 Feb 2006 9:45pm

Hah, I remember the three dollar gigs, the cans of food, ahh memories.

Gone are the days of Dementia and Ninth Hour.

we're old.

Sugar is a shitty venue. No soap in the ladies washroom. Doors don't work either...sound is skanky, not a good skank either. - Sat, 18 Feb 2006 10:58pm

Did anyone else not enjoy the security frisk at the door? The guy had his hand firmly planted on the bulge by the inside of my knee. I looked at him and told him to get his hand off my tally i am married! He got scared and waved me through... It was really a two litre bottle of pop... cheaper than the two sip ice cups they sell you at thier bar. although i love to chuck ice.

What a gig though Hey Whiskey are you any relation to Louis? good writer that guy! - Sun, 19 Feb 2006 10:26am

Oh wow, that reminds me, when I was at KMFDM at Sugar the soundguy sure smokes a lot, that's a major fire hazard cause the floors are wood, get lit ash in between the wood and FIRE!!! Perhaps KMFDM have their own soundguy, I dunno. Wow, someone remembers Ninth Hour. - Sun, 19 Feb 2006 1:13pm

i've had no problem with security there which is unusual. the staff's way better than the dinks at steamers. they didnt even make me check my leather which was awesome. cus nothing sucks more than being held hostage at the end of the night waiting to get your madatorily checked jacket outta coatcheck. do they only frisk dudes there? or is it just that they had no female security gaurds this weekend? - Sun, 19 Feb 2006 2:59pm

First time to a Nomeansno show for me.
Budokan were young. Reminded me of Sloan on valium. Not totally awful, but they have some exploring to do to fully achieve their potential, I think. Good band name, anyhow.
Removal are very talented. They almost completely pulled off the no vocals thing. I found myself getting pretty bored at times, but I probably just need more vocals in a set to keep things fresh. Excellent cover songs at the end!
Nomeansno are tight. Tight as fucking hell. All great players! The drummer had a very cool style about his perfomance. I give them all the credit and repect for being around so long and maintaining a very healthy fan base. I admire all they have achieved in their illustrious and amazing career.
That being said, I must admit that they didn't appeal to me at all. Not in the least. I found their riffs to be like incomplete cycles with no conclusion. The lyrics seemed somewhat abstract and artsy, which isn't the kind of stuff I find interesting. Too much ska-like style in a lot of their songs (a negative for me as I am not a big ska fan).
Maybe it was because they have been hyped to me so much in the past, but I felt let down. I am in the minority, I'm sure. So before anyone tries to hassle me about my opinion, remember that doing so just validates it that much more.
The security apparently was having issues with people sneaking in alcohol...gee, I can't imagine why. - Sun, 19 Feb 2006 8:54pm

Mr. Hell: Good write up. I may not agree, but you gotta write what you feel.

One thing though. Budokan. I'm sure they'd be pleased to be called "young" but considering some of their former bands include Pigment Vehicle, Bum, and Mission Of Christ... Well, you know. - Mon, 20 Feb 2006 1:46am

Ok, my eyes are bad...I admit I need glasses. Thanks for being so diplomatic, Ty! They seemed young with their energy and sound. I hope they take it as a compliment that they look so young for their ages.
I figure Feed Us A Fetus is pretty darn classic for Victoria...but what do I know? I can barely see 40 feet in front of me. - Mon, 20 Feb 2006 4:09pm
