holy fuck!!! User Info... | I dunno how the Vic show went cuz I haven't read it yet, but this is my take on ours: HOLY HAMMERED PEOPLE! I saw Jay Leblanc walk in that night (someone at the door shaking their finger at him, hahahaaa) and it reminded me of back at the Cobalt where all the staff would get mobilized and he'd be yelling out "EVERYONE UP! LETS GET MOVING - DAYGLOOOOOOS!", or something to that effect. Everyone's on like red alert, and there's no fucking around. Killer seeing Plow back at the door, and EVERYONE WAS OUT! I walked in the door up to the bar lineup, and just in that stretch I think I saw at least 30 people I knew. I just walked the fuck back out cuz I just hadn't prepared. I missed the neo nasties, and got there mid-way through the business associates, still freaked out by the state of the bar. Sounded decent, what I could focus on, and Stef was PUMPED! So they get off stage and get RIGHT back to work (cuz 2 of them are on Asbalt staff). Its almost like they never stopped cuz you know on a night like that staff are watching everyone like a hawk, playing or not. Work means coming off stage and Malice escorting a guy with a freshly bottle-smashed face toward the door, and all I'm thinking is pretty much what I was always thinking at the Cobalt don't-get-any-on-me-don't-get-any-on-me-don't-get-any-on-me. BSF doesn't want to leave and keeps coming up asking to be let back in. Steve (staff)'s explaining that he can't let you in dripping with all that blood! Stef goes outside for a smoke and he's talking a mile a minute and huffing & puffing & his face stays beet red, like all night long. (not drugs) He's working and playing his first gig with that band and working again on a DAYGLOS night, which is just fucked. Inside AWT go on and I've got to say its the best I've ever seen them. Did I say HOLY HAMMERED PEOPLE!? So funny, people slamming through like major assholes back and forth from the pit. Singer gets in and mows through getting them all going like no one I've ever seen. That night they were THE best band to open a Dayglos show. So then I see Beer Smashed Face wandering in the bar, face looking pieced together and all the blood wiped off like we wouldn't notice. I can take all the wasted-beyond-belief people but all I'm thinking when I see this guy is don't-get-any-on-me-don't-get-any-on-me-don't-get-any-on-me, like he could at any moment explode and start gushing as the wounds give way. And then this chick starts BEATING on him all over again! JESUS! I couldn't believe it! WTF! I'm still in awe that there wasn't blood spurting everywhere. I waas totally grossed out and just trying to cope. Whatever, she seemed happy. And docile as he was, he must've been into it to need to come back in and go right up looking for more. dorks. Jay's playing away, all cool, never lost it, everything in stride at a Dayglos show... HOLY.. you get the idea. All through the crowd, back to front, inside, outside. Never saw Wendy once 'cept for the shock of hair from afar, cuz I didn't hit the lineup, but everyone's cooperating and everyone from wasted crusty to beautiful-totally-elegant metal girl's leaning over asking if I'm ok & need a drink. Nice! Did ALL of Victoria come out for this? Now that was cool! Probably not a bad wknd to come into town, play a killer show of your own, then hang out to get assaulted the next night by this! witnessing drunken debotchery's kinda fun as long as.. ya don't get any on ya. And all those people who I never see anymore but who only come out for Dayglos! (some who I can do without, haha.. guess we can all say that). Plow's in good spirits but quietly grouching cuz he's sick as a dog and has been in bed for 2 days. Calling him a wuss was met with dead silence. Long dead silence. You know, Plow dead silence where even though he's up a foot over you, he still seems to look down.. and up at you like you're in major shit. DAYGLOS! Holy hammered people... wish there was room to enjoy the band, everything was too amped up for me to focus on guitars and I couldn't see any of them... but it was worth it. I just want to say that that was a classic Dayglos show, with every dirty punk from far and wide in there to support their favorite dirty punks. And everyone who gets it & feels that spirit crammed in there too. The reason why it was such a kick ass show is cuz those staff & bands know what to expect, know everyone there, and know how to handle whatever goes on in stride. Everyone's safe and people know to either pitch in, or respect and move the fuck out of the way when they're told, cuz its business. You can't put a show like that in just any bar because it takes a lot of work & experience to handle it. Don't ever underestimate all that goes into pulling off a night like that. Thanks everyone! - Tue, 20 Dec 2005 12:55pm Edited: Tue, 20 Dec 2005 4:49pm
bsxjen User Info... | What a fucking show. I got ONE picture before someone (perhaps Jimbo) hucked a full beer at the green haired mohawk kid who Jimbo was hassling, the kid ducked and me... with camera in face did not. I mean what do you expect, it's a daglo's show at the Asbalt! I was far too safe, secure, clean and dry on my perch to the left of the stage, I needed that to remind me of what the shows are all about. I walked in to the above mentioned guy bleeding all over the place at the door. Plow was not letting this drunk guy back in so once he dealt with him I was on my way inside to the already whipped up crowd. I had to come straigt from work in Victoria so I missed the Neo Nasties and the Business Associates but from the way things looked when I got there they were well recieved. AWT sounded great from outside the bar where I was dealing with a shitnami of drunken freinds and I got to listen to a copy of the new cd... tight shit that sounds oh so fucking professional ;). ANd the Dayglos... holy fuck! since i quit drinking i don't really mess it up too much in the pit but prefer to stand back, enjoy the band, keep an eye on the friends of mine who are too drunk to make proper decision, so needless to say I had a great view of one hell of a crazy show. The boys sounded great and it always feels just that much better scumin' it up in E.Van. There's Something more honest about seeing the Dayglos at the Asbalt as opposed to some clean fancy place like Lucky, y'know those working toilets and clean bathrooms really swank that place up. Sati, was that you at the door talking to Plow when i came in? - Thu, 29 Dec 2005 7:31am
jay brown User Info... | Bwahahahahah, all of a sudden I am really glad I didnt go stand beside you to watch the Dayglos........ - Thu, 29 Dec 2005 1:29pm
Sati User Info... | I couldn't get in close enough to watch them. Hi Jen. Plow was pretty popular that night.. but from your picture & what you wrote about coming in from Vic, I kinda remember being confused by a very cheery looking person carrying a lot of stuff who said hello to me like they maybe knew me? If that was you, nice! Please intro yourself next time, cuz I know your name from reading it so often. That show seems like eons ago.. twas a fun week. - Sun, 1 Jan 2006 6:49pm
