brad User Info... | (All Ages) $8 Saturday nov 26th Of It's Own Acord. An Open Space New Music off site event. @the fifty fifty arts collective 2516 Douglas St. Eugene Chadbourne: Instrumentalist, Composer, Performer and Writer. One one the underground communities most well known and well loved eccentrics who continues to tour and release an endless series of innovative recordings. After releasing his 1976 debut, Solo Acoustic Guitar , Eugene began collaborating on purely improvisational music with the visionary saxophonist John Zorn and the acclaimed guitarist Henry Kaiser. From being the front man of Shockabilly to the cover band Camper Van Beethoven Eugene has carved out a style of equal parts , free improvisation, protest music and avant-garde jazz. He has countless collaborations and continues to with today's most innovative musicians from all corners of the globe. Scott Henderson: Guitarist , composer, engineer. This remarkably talented guitarist and recording engineer has spent most of his life in the city of Victoria where as of 2002 he had operated his own recording studio for two decades. He is closely associated with the Canadian west coast punk and creative music scene, particularly the bands No Means No and the Dayglo Abortions. http://www.openspace.ca/arts/calendar.htm#accord - Fri, 25 Nov 2005 10:09pm
Zippgunn User Info... | Thanks to everybody (especially my "crew" of photogs and recorders)for coming out and making my first ever solo gig (in 25 years!) a success. I was a little bit rattled by some inevitable equipment failures but all in all I thought it was good and Dr. Chad was his usual barrel of fun. The 50/50 is the perfect venue for shows of this ilk. - Sun, 27 Nov 2005 10:04am

lonemonk User Info... | It was fucking wicked. Much of the evening contained *reasonably* standard instrumentation: Banjo, guitar, bass, no less than 18 effect pedals, variety of wind instruments and a turntable. Henderson did a mind-mangling set of effect-pedal/synth/digital looper improvisations, along with horn and guitar accompaniments. He became a fully-amplified one-man-band. I'd never seen Chadbourne live before, but I have a couple of his CDs, and bought two more at the gig. Hes a freak of musical nature. All styles of music are possible, and the sense of humour (often political) is very sharp. Both performers have a pretty unique understanding of their instruments; Then came the unique instruments. What was ostensibly the 'encore', Eugene and Scott had a battle between the electric rake and making its' debut, the amplified toilet plunger! Until you've heard and/or seen this combination your imagination simply will not do it justice. With any luck this show will appear one day as both an audio recording and a video production. There were no fewer than 4 professional motion cameramen, 3 still photographers and at least 3 audio-only recorders (including yours truly). Only a Phish show would have a higher ratio of audience members recording all at the same time. . - Mon, 28 Nov 2005 5:51pm
brad User Info... | i was a bit late to get there, but once i arrived i was amazed within seconds of henderson's foot fire on the effects pedals and the music he was creating off the top of his head using multi instruments. Eugene Chadbourne was fucking incredible! I sat jaw dropped for most of his banjo solo...i must hear/see this show again..Lonemonk? can you help me with this? - Mon, 28 Nov 2005 9:01pm
lonemonk User Info... | No problem. Possibly none of the recorded stuff will be ready for a few weeks. I want to use Hendersons board to put it all together. Not sure how long the video guys will need to stitch together all the camera angles. I don't know video production so well. I'm also not sure if they will be using their own audio, or whether we will synchronize it with what I got. Jesus, those people did have some sexy camera gear though. Canon XL1 Hidef/widescreen capable. I wish I had a few days off later this week, follow Henderson and DPSmith over to vancouver. Start that craziness all over again. - Tue, 29 Nov 2005 8:42am
