2 sets, including all of Operation Mindcrime done with full theatrics, what can I say other than how killer this show was, easily one THE best live shows Ive ever seen in Victoria much less anywhere. The stage show combined with the light show combined with the anti-establishment conspiracy theme of the album and the musical abilities of the band all added up to one hell of a second set. Geoff Tate even sang the final song while wrapped in a straightjacket with the mic tucked into his elbow.

5.1 surround, Lots of good background footage going on the video screen, plus they had 3 cameras up front which would fade the band in and out of the crazy shit going on in the film ( war footage, politics etc ) one of the more intelligent concept albums of its time, much of the message still holds true to this day.. The actors were great, Mary sang her heart out and the junkie scenes were actually almost chilling at times. When Mary blew her brains out (BANG!) and the blood splattered all over the video screen.. then she gets burned alive and everything went red and orange lights and flames..

Loudest encore Ive ever heard in this city by far, but before the band could come out for their coveted encore song (Queen Of The Ryche) the venue turned on the lights..

Some people in the balconey said the sound was going in and out, but down below it was in surround, so Im not sure if they were missing out on that. Either way, 10/10 for me on this show, it stands in the top 10 shows Ive ever seen and Ive been to literally 100's of shows, metal, rock, jazz, you name it, this was up there with the best! - Wed, 14 Sep 2005 11:09am

Yup, pretty awesome. I've been following Queensryche for years but haven't liked much of what they've done since Mindcrime so it was great to see the whole thing live. The new guitar player fits in well and I was up in the balcony and thought the sound was really good. Now if I can just get my hands on some smoke machines and lazers... - Wed, 14 Sep 2005 12:39pm

No question that was wicked! I went not really sure of what to expect but was blown away by the whole night from the old classics to the Operation Mindcrime set. The sound was intense and Geoff's voice blew my mind! Take Hold was my favorite too Donnie. I thought Def Leppard was a pretty cool rock show but Queensryche made those brits seem old and tired. - Wed, 14 Sep 2005 3:32pm

The Royal is a great venue ,the old gothic style arches and marble sculptors added a very dark and foreboding feel for this band we call "Queensryche" \m/

...and the mix of filmed footage , live actors , broody black light lighting, lasers and smoke machine, all choreographed to the music sure didn't hurt much either !!

Place was not full to capacity by any means and a friend of mine purchased a ticket the night of the show and ended up getting FRONT third row, that lucky bastard !

BUT INSTEAD -

I unfortunately had bought a extra ticket from someone earlier who was stuck with it ( I think you still owe me a drink for the lack of change from purchase ?) , oh and thanks friends for not telling me the plan of sneaking on to the floor and all partying together down on the floor ....or fuck you and welcome for the drink…or maybe I'm just bitter for being banished to the balcony ,which I should say the view of stage was excellent and dramatic with the effects …and of course being kind of wrecked , couldn't stop from looking up at the ceiling at the laser show from the multi. lasers shifting and shuffling . Only draw back was the sound was cluttered a bit and through part of the theatrical part the show it was a little hard to hear , and a few of us notice the voc’s where faltering .
Guesses ranged from the incredible front mans chops was getting tired …or the PA was cutting out or …lack of mid range sound up in the nose bleeds . It was there and I'm not dwelling or trying to degrading from a fine performance , but it was noticed.
Lessons learned ? Balcony sucks …..and you know the other.

Entering the place we were stoked and we ( ML7mike) ..(lol)…took the schnapps in ,in his pocket and we pretty well walked in like kings .. no checks .. I don't even remember if they looked at my ticket or asked ? Very civilized and comfortable inside, there was so may local band members, friends and ex friends you don't want to see, it was like a party losing track of who was where ! And many thanks for having us all over to your digs Royal staff ,you rock.. and wink to the fine burnet working at the bar it was nice talking to you !
The Security was anal in some areas and none existence in others so I got to hear(sneak in ) with no trouble down for what was their last song ... so I got to see them for all of 10 seconds up close before finding out it was the last.... and no encore?
.. unless I was wasted and missed it?
..... it's always a possibility . oh yea.
It was kind of like them turning on those ugly florescent lights when a club closes , yea know when that hot sexy thing turns into a disappointment and in the one blink of a eye you are transported back to reality ... life .
They started off with a lot of their main stream stuff for the first part of the show and it rocked my tube socks , a mixer of tunes from previous albums .
I will confess I was never a true Queensryche Disciple, but they played a lot of superb tunedge that I do know and love .

Intermission was chaotic at the bar and chose to walk outside and yak with pals and blister a few doobs !

Second part was really unknown to me except for my experience listening to a compilation box set I’ve had for a few years and really doesn’t make me able to judge the performance .Stage show top notch and one of a kind and a lot was put into it . I guess I was reminded about how little I know about Q, when about the third song, a ambient sound pattern was playing and Tony ( Puruke) and I were laughing about the funky lights and were told to keep it down from behind us .. Sorry about that .. I guess if we(or I) knew what was going on I would have been more respectful .But my ignorance was ..well yea know .. Sorry again . But It was at a uneventful moment (I thought) and it’s a fucking concert, what do you expect ? Ok you paid almost 70 beans to go .. Nuff said.

…… but the stage show did edge on cheesiness at sometimes and from up top the purple blue lighting did make Tony and I chuckle (sorry again).. plus the half a Mickey and many bluntz were taking effect !

It was a great show all in all, but the floor would’ve been nice and I’m glad to hear ( or not hear) that down on the floor was amazing !

Pleases come back again Almighty Queensryche, I shalth become more aware next time around !

9 out of 10 for balcony.

After party was schizophrenic and hodgepodged with people coming and going over at Lady Tanya’s and the Playboy bunnies mansion , that many beautiful women in one place can put rips in the time continuum…. or in your pants. Hardy har !!

Bought my lady a $45 dollar Q-Tee,

..the tight ones, …oh yea ,you know the one !

Making this show live in ever more INFAMY !!!

……oh and I lost the tee before I got it home ! Meh!

EDIT -from “Desensitized “ review (Sugars) http://www.desensitized.ca/

…… I wish I had a edit on here to edit past things, like putting wrong names .

….. cuz I fucked up and put Al’s name as the singer, which is the bassist and have felt like a goof ever since . I love you to death Al , sweet cakes …oh and thanks for the nothingface back .. I missed that puppy ! Whimper!

But it was BRANDON……

..and for the groupies like me, here’s his smiling face http://www.desensitized.ca/brandon.html

Fucking Brandon you are going someplace and sorry again man , just didn’t read right or ……I blame it on years and years of drug use …just ask Jason ! That is a joke bro,

Well it was a good show. I could have had just one long set of greatest hits instead of the theatrics. I like Queensryche and am a fan but I find the whole "Mindcrime" a bit much for the average rocker to get a grasp of. We just wanna see you rock.
Also for an album 15 or so years old I found the stage production of "Mindcrime" a little mickey mouse for a world class band and not doing an encore at the end for that ovation was a kick in the pants to your fans. - Thu, 15 Sep 2005 3:43pm
