First off, I have to say I love this venue. A band I was in played here while it was still called the multicultural center. Such a groovy atmosphere with the lighting and couches and such. Way better than some gym or something.

Things started off with the Paper Cranes. Some interesting stuff. At first I got the impression they were trying to mimic the arcade fire in a way but their more movable tunes got things going for people. I think the volume levels were not perfect but I liked some of what they did. I don't think I liked them as much as some other people but they have room to improve for sure.

Vincat!!!! I think this was the best show they've played. Maybe their playing off-island has given them time to really tighten up? I like the changes, first off it's so much better without that saw player, secondly I noticed some new things were added such as the french horn singing, pretty cool. It was a lot of fun. I dug it. I have said in the past that vincat is simplistic but I wish to take it back; while the music is formed off of some simple hooks, it has really now fallen into a great groove and individual style. Lots of fun.

They Shoot Horses Don't They? - I was shocked by the introduction of all the horns/saxaes. Very cool. I sat back and watched them and while I wasn't amazed or anything, I enjoyed them.

Immaculate Machine!!!! At first I thought they seemed a little held-back... maybe worried at having to live up to their new name which is now everywhere in the city, and the record signing. But once things got going so many people were dancing. I LOVE the new songs and I will be listening to the cd as soon as I finish this. I hope Kathryn makes up her mind as to our wedding soon.

I took a bunch of pictures. They will appear on my site, http://xtylerx.tk when I get around to it eventually. Eventually. Give me time!! - Sun, 11 Sep 2005 12:52am

Great show! The sound was great overall, which was a pleasant suprise given my previous experience at the venue.

1) Missed the Paper Cranes. Darn, I have heard good things.

2) Vin Cat was very good. I loved them before, and now they are tighter than ever.

3) They Shoot Horses were hilarious as always. Has there been a line-up change?

4) IM were excellent. The new material is great, and the band is sounding wicked. I think these guys will be winning some new converts on their tour.

The new album is amazing -- go buy it if you haven't already.

I actually really enjoyed every band, but I was blown away by vincat. No matter how hard you try you can't help but get into that music. - Sun, 11 Sep 2005 6:16pm

hello,
me from vincat,
This was by far the best show i have ever played.
there were so many people, it was like we were famous.
only not, because only people in victoria, and now a few in van know we even exist. but still! it gave me a taste, of what the future could be like. i am so happy. even though i have to go back to my crappy job, and jump back a bored the "rat race" this show has given me great hope, that great things will happen in the future.

thank you immaculate machine, for giving us this wondeful opportunity. you guys rock so hard. vancouver was awsome, vic was awsome.

anyways. all the bands rocked super hard.

zee paper cranes have some cute tunes, i see potential.

vincat, ha, kris was on speed or something i dont even know, i was trippin because of the audience, it was H to the core for sure.

they shoot horses don't they got me dancing, perhaps that was the beer though. it reminded me of some sort of hugarian dance off. great stuff.

immaculate machine i luv. they could suck so hard and i would still luv them. i love when the drummer gets all sweaty and naked. and of course the beautiful melodies thoes kids come up with.

but who am i to say anything about anyone anyways, its all personal opinion.

ps, at the van show, there was an old, like old (grandparents old) dancing to vincat, coolest thing ever.

thank you.

That show was so much fun.

The Paper Cranes - Sounded good. I'll probably go see them again.

Vin Cat - Soooo good. The horns and extra vocals sound superb. The two last songs were really cool.

They Shoot Horses Don't They - Fun band. The horns were rad, and the guy smashing the stick ruled.

Immaculate Machine - Amazing. The new songs are awesome & the CD sounds great. I really like So Cynical. Luke is my drummer hero. Hope to see them again soon. - Mon, 12 Sep 2005 4:43pm
