MuchMusic descends on Victoria this weekend to tape the third installment of Much Does Victoria, an hour-long program chronicling the best up-and-comers the Garden City has to offer.

The late-afternoon concert, held at Open Air in Centennial Square, will be taped live by MuchMusic videographer Chris Nelson, and will air Sept. 25 at 8 p.m. on Nelson's West Coast-flavoured show, Going Coastal.

The concert is produced in tandem with TNT Productions and Atomique, two local event promoters who help Nelson determine the final list of performers.

This year's list is a bumper-crop of acts, perhaps the best yet for Much Does Victoria.

The line-up is led by hip-hop sensation Moka Only, a Juno Award-winning former member of Swollen Members.

Other acts include:

- Kuba, the personable Velvet frontman who is promoting his excellent solo debut, Ride On. http://www.kuba.ca

- Kincaide, a popular throat-shredding emo act fresh off a massive Canadian tour. Not to be missed. http://www.stopkincaide.com

- Rod Iron Haulers, a combustible, beer-soaked, tattooed rock 'n' roll machine that dominates on stage. http://www.rodironhaulers.com

- Black Tie Social, an eclectic, razor-sharp quartet that released its debut E.P. in July. http://www.blacktiesocial.com

- Current Swell, an acoustic-based jam-friendly quintet readying songs for its funky debut. http://www.currentswell.com - Sat, 10 Sep 2005 10:45am

Ok, i got pretty drunk lastnight and was busy so I couldn't upload the pics. I'm doing them now so i'll post the pics in about an hour - hour and a half. I only have pics of kincaide, I would of liked to shoot moka only or whoever it was, but I couldn't find the guy backstage. - Sun, 11 Sep 2005 10:21am

I took some shots of Black Tie, as that was pretty much all I stayed for, since I went and checked out the Immaculate Machine show.

I really need a new camera after seeing those Kincaide pictures. They are amazing. - Sun, 11 Sep 2005 12:29pm

I just checked out your shots, I think you and your camera do a pretty good job, just a little less camera shake + using a fillflash is the onyl thing I can see that needs some work (because the backdrop is so bright it screws with your camera's metering, so unless you set it to all manual your people will come out a little 2 dark) - Sun, 11 Sep 2005 12:37pm

Yea the IM show was so full it was crazy.

Thanks for the kind words. I do what I can with my whopping 2.0 megapixel camera. I dont have very steady hands, never have. I really need a camera with the shake controll. I'm going to get a Canon S2 Powershot in December though, so then I will be a happy panda. - Sun, 11 Sep 2005 12:52pm

You guys both take great photos.
Current Swell are cool guys. The crowd was really digging them. They lay down a tight groove.

The jerks from Black Tie Social had a fun time playing. Thanks for listening.

Kincaide put on an awesome live show. Their energy is incredible. I'm glad i finally got to see them.

The Haulers fucking rock hard and I totally dug it. I'm glad they were there to rock the place.

Kuba was incredible. I've seen Velvet play before and they were dope, but Kuba is the man. I've gotta check out his disc.

And Moka... we caught up with this guy at Denny's later that night. His set was awesome and his band was sweet. He's got an incredible voice and he's a sweet musician too. Great way to close the show.

All in all i had an awesome time. thanks to all those who put it together including Nick, Kim, and Chris from Much. - Sun, 11 Sep 2005 8:55pm

This show was lots of fun for Black Tie. Every band that played was great! Very talented and unique bands. I love shows where there is such a mix of genres like that.

Current Swells music really got the crowd going. They were the perfect opening band! Reminded me of surfing in Tofino this past summer. Way to go guys!!!

Kincaide's stage presents was amazing!! I really enjoyed them.

Rod Iron Haulers, again, put on a great show. However, I didn't catch a lot of them as I headed out for a sushi break at this point. I'm sure they were just as wonderful as all the other bands. =)

I loved Kuba's music as well. Thumbs up to Rick Maye on Bass (sorry if I spelt your name wrong!).

Moka only blew my mind. I had never heard his solo act and I guess I was expecting something similair to the Swollen Members act. His band was extremely talented. I loved the bass lines and Moka is indeed, a great singer and a talented man himself. - Mon, 12 Sep 2005 11:48am

The Much Does Victoria show was great. I only got to see the first 4 bands. here is what I thought.
1-Current Swell- Great harmonies and energy. The harmonica really added some glue for this band. Cudoes for the soundman on this set. Well mixed. I would definitely see/hear them again when they are playing around town.
2-Black Tie Social-One of their best shows to date. Polished musicians for sure for their age. I particularly love the 4 part vocal harmonies and the Fender Tele/Gibson Les Paul combo rules. Thanks go out to Paul Afleck the man with the sweet tambourine. Great job Paul.
3-Kincaide- What can I say these guys have more enrgy than any energizer bunny could ever muster. I really liked the total show they put on. Crescendo takes on new meaning for me after hearing/seeing these guys. The show stopper is the bass player jumping off the highest stack on stage!!!Olympic!!!!
4-Rod Iron Haulers- Yup they too rocked. Loved the stereo SG guitars and the straight ahead rock feels. I hear Al Agopsowitz might be shooting their video. Can't wait to see that.
Thanks to Chris Nelson, Nick Blasko and Kim Persley as well as TNT and Pacific Audio Works for putting on a great show. Looking forward to the airing of Much Going Coastal on September 25th at 8 PM. - Mon, 12 Sep 2005 12:50pm

It looks like I missed a lot of leaping from Kincaide.

Too bad, I do enjoy leaping about.

Great shots.
