Tyler User Info... | I went! First of all, HUGE thanks to livevic scott, he knows why :) Anywayyyyy the show was sooo good. I wasn't huge on the opening band.. Mark Atkinson Trio? They played some guitar gypsy jazz stuff. It was cool but not completely my thing. The highlight of the evening though, Arturo. Soooo good. His band consisted of himself, a piano/synth player, a tenor sax player, a kit player, a percussionist, a bass player. All very talented. They played a wide variety of music... afro-cuban stuff, bebop-influenced stuff, a lot of fusion and contemporary-influenced music, etc. I didn't know this but Arturo also plays piano/synth!!! He played piano in a piano feature and was VERY impressive despite the fact that he's a trumpet player. He did a fair amount of singing/scatting also. Everyone was into it. The lighting was great and the evening flew by so fast. I'll admit that I brought my camera into the royal. With the flash off, of course, I didn't want to upset the audience. Joni and I were some of the only young people there. I saw maybe 3 others around 20. Everyone else seemed about 35 to 80. Anyway most pictures didn't turn out due to the nature of the royal theatre but some did and I will put them on my site ( http://xtylerx.tk ) within the next few days. The lighting was great, the sound was great. I have very few complaints. Amazing jazz show. Something I'll never forget. - Thu, 30 Jun 2005 9:06am

Dane User Info... | Agreed that the show was off the hook! Arturo Sandoval hit the highest notes on the trumpet I've ever heard. His whole supporting band were also a pleasure to listen to and watch. I really loved his beat boxing too. He reminded me of Rahzel but with a Latin band backing him. His beat box solo gave a nice edge to his overall performance. And I really dug the Marc Atkinson Trio a lot. I'm really happy I finally got to see them after so many years. Great gypsy jazz with Latin grooves mixed in. I love how they had the ukulele sound (using the guitar) ending on many of their songs. Great opening act for sure! - Sat, 2 Jul 2005 11:17pm
