Kaitie Sly User Info... | hardly anybody came to this show which is lame, because there were some good bands to support. its hard to get good sound in that hall, and some whacky stuff went down in the parking lot, but otherwise, a fun show. - Fri, 17 Jun 2005 10:37pm
colin [sic] User Info... | maybe because there were two all ages shows happening that night ! - Sat, 18 Jun 2005 5:44am

sumyungai User Info... | If a drummer cannot look at a room, realize that it's a bit of a barn, (and empty), and tailor his playing to match the venue, well, he sucks. 'Nuff said. - Sat, 18 Jun 2005 10:17am
csic User Info... | well we can't all be as smart as you Paul, sorry I mean Anthony. why did you change your name again ? - Sat, 18 Jun 2005 10:22am
sumyungai User Info... | That would be Mr. P. Anthony Smith to you, big boy. Thanks to those who did come out, and thanks to the bands for playing. Next time, we'll try and get there a little earlier for a soundcheck, maybe! P.S. BTS- you guys sounded v. cool, and Maurice- tight vocals, v. tasty. JZ- good musicianship, just gotta tighten up those jams (songs?). Thanks again. - Sat, 18 Jun 2005 10:38am
JasonLove User Info... | "If a drummer cannot look at a room, realize that it's a bit of a barn, (and empty), and tailor his playing to match the venue, well, he sucks. 'Nuff said." The drummer in reference is a professional musician. Period. It was not too loud. That is his approach to the drums. He is a powerful player. I was in the "crowd" (if you would call it that) and found it to be quite musical for the circumstances. As a matter of fact, I have heard that same drummer with the same band in the same room, not that long ago, sound fantastic. The only variable was the sound man and the gear. And the front-end was significantly less substantial. Makes you wonder doesn't it? The drummer (and the rest of his band) took an underpromoted and over priced show, at which there was no one, and tried to have fun with it. It is a shame that this show turned out so poorly. There were only two good aspects to the show: 1) some great bands and 2) big system for an all-ages show. Also, having to deal with some *insert word of choice here* who thought it was a good idea to spray a fire extinguisher all over our bass players car didn't help. My quote of the day: "The un-professionalism was so thick you could cut it with a knife." Despite all of this there was still some cool bands playing some great music. Thanks Maurice and Stone Creek for rocking so hard and thanks to JZ for putting the fire in Katies car out. - Sat, 18 Jun 2005 10:55pm
donkey User Info... | well, planning two all agers shows the weekend before exams was just silly, i gaurentee you if they did that show next, week twice as many people at least. - Sun, 19 Jun 2005 7:14am
Brendan User Info... | I'm going on record to totally distance myself from all posts attributed to Whawa sound. My apologies to Connor and Maurice, sorry to hear you were put off by the sound guy. I wish I didn't have to work until 9 that night, maybe I could've helped smooth things over. And I would've liked to see you guys play. Any time I've done shows with you guys in the past you have all been nothing but proffesional. Cheers! - Sun, 19 Jun 2005 7:35am
JasonLove User Info... | Right on Brendan! The key word here is "difussion"! Much love y'all. - Sun, 19 Jun 2005 1:14pm
Colin {Sic} User Info... | I am shoked nobody posted pics on here yet. This is the only one I had that turned out. - Mon, 20 Jun 2005 8:38am
sumyungai User Info... | Nice board, Midas I believe. Seriously, I stand behind my remarks to (re.) Connor. Maurice showed 5 minutes after they were due on stage. During the course of their set I saw J-P turn up twice. The keyboardist complained about the volume. Does this not suggest that perhaps the stage volume was a little excessive? Despite the "oversized" PA it was all I could do to make the vocals legible over the din coming straight off the stage. I and my staff took the brunt for what happened, and fielded the complaints, not Connor. - Mon, 20 Jun 2005 10:10am
colin sic User Info... | its nice to see Paul (oops I mean Anthony) that you are a profesional young man, and that you're work ethic is the same. Its good to know that you fielded all the complaints yourself. Good Job ! - Mon, 20 Jun 2005 1:26pm
RollingRocks User Info... | The issue is not whtether you fielded complaints, but how you did it, and how you presented your own complaints. I think we can all agree that the show could have been run more professionally from all points of view. Even mine. And I'm a fucking gem of a man. - Mon, 20 Jun 2005 1:37pm
sumyungai User Info... | It's nice to see that you can spell professional (sic) Colin. - Mon, 20 Jun 2005 2:09pm
VideoMaker User Info... | There there all! I have many observations of what happened at the WEH show. I agree that scheduling the gig on the same day as another hot (cheaper too) all ages venue was an oversight. I also would recommend that bands not come to these shows with their own case(s) of beer and put it out on stage. This particular opening act was irresponsible and need to sharpen up the details. My hat does however go off to the member of that band who had the courage to own up to his having fire extinguished the imaginary fire on Katie's car. I would invite him to another all ages show no problem. The other Steve Perry wannabee guy should just steer clear of alcohol and whatever else he was on. Black Tie Social I would have to say played their worst set in recent history. It was a big risk for them to bring in an unrehearsed keyboard player. Poor form from a band I have much higher expectations of. Luckily I saw their show the next day at The Sister's of Saint Ann's Providence Farm. That was a great show. More on that in another post. I did not stay for the end of the WEH gig with Stone Creek. I think they are a band with a future and as we know the road to success for a band from Victoria is not without bumps. In summary here are my suggestions for better gigs.#1 Do homework: Get 3 radio and 2 print spots in local media. #2 Keep the price $5 or under. #3 Sell tickets through Ditch Records. #4 Share as much of the lightshow as you can for the other bands because hey it's just the right thing to do for Bands who are likely not going to get paid anyway. #5 Invite reviewers/critics to the shows. If they like what they hear they will write about it and if not they will make suggestions on improvements. I personally think that the media in this town have an obligation to review these shows and promote them also as they seem to be the last to know Victoria's best kept secret.........wait........wait.......here it comes...........that's right Victoria has the best upcoming bands in Canada right now!!!! I am not kidding. Sincerely VM - Mon, 20 Jun 2005 4:44pm
mark beattie User Info... | about that fire extinguisher to the car deal, in my own defence id like to say the car was coming right at me and had a ferocious funny look in its eyes. i did what any straight thinking individual would have done and doused it with a fire extinguisher. i excuse my vandal actions and will set my arsenal of self defence mechanisms from kill to stun. -love,mark beattie xoxo p.s. i could have made more money washing that fucking car then playing that show. - Tue, 21 Jun 2005 4:56pm
JasonLove User Info... | Due to your actions at the show I would have to say that you have a more promising future in the car washing industry than in music. Yes, you will make more money washing cars than at playing shows. Good luck with that. - Wed, 22 Jun 2005 9:30am
