It was an ok time. Also I was pretty estranged to it all cause I was tired, hot, and sort of confused. I had to leave early to catch the last bus outta there. Is that chick who got smashed by that falling speaker ok??

1st guy was cool and he attacked the guitar, pretty cool as he didn't just have the same old set up as the typical noise artist.

2nd guy was kind of boring. Nothing too spectacular.

Skruntskrunt had some sweet ideas (apples, sand images).

Night Ape ruled!!! So innovative and interesting. Rakes, flash lights, walkie-talkies, and popcorn machines should become standard in a noise set.

Grandpa Big Balls was probably the most interesting of the bunch. His set was hilarious and genious. Such a good schtick and something I'd actually enjoy listening to.

//Num was a refreshing band. Live noise is where it's at. Nothing pre-programmed and live instruments!! My only concern was that it went on a little long.

Blood Frequency scared the shit out of me, which is pretty common of anything that Harlow has a hand in (ie. Funerary Call). But it just got a little odd and maybe I just didn't get it. After that chick got smashed and the hanging I had to leave . . . mostly to catch the bus. BUt it was also a bit of a sensory overload.

just wondering how the rest of the show went. - Sun, 29 May 2005 8:56pm

I only went for the movie portion. I found the videos to range between average and interesting. The first documentary was pretty cool. The second one, while I learned a lot, I found that most of what the artists had to say was all the same.

LoVid (described as "scrambles ordinary TV output into hyperkinetic audiovisual abstraction using homemade electronic devices, repurposed analog toys, and low-res video loops") has a site here: http://www.ignivomous.org/projects/lovid/

I really was impressed with the skull video thing by LoVid, that was the height of it for me. I would have gone to the concert portion, but I went to the hardcore show at fernwood. - Sun, 29 May 2005 9:09pm

Yeah Loren (sp?) is OK. She ended up with a couple of stitches and was told to take it easy. She was also a hell of a good sport about it all as was Alan so a big 7 fingered metal sign to the both of them for letting us hold as well as helping out with the event.

Mutilashawn, too bad you left then as the show just kept ramping up. Flatgrey was intense, The Rita plain out slayed (toss up between Xome and them for my fave performance of the night), the mighty Xome was inspiring and Stimbox destroyed whatever sanity we had left.

Fuck that was a good show! I caught the flicks in the day time but missed the first few artists of the night (missed fucking Night Ape again dammit, arrrrg), //Num was totally impressive, and it just kept getting more intense from then on. If i had not found my plugs my ears would have been bleeding by the end of the night, in a good way! Too bad about the injury, glad to hear she is alright. Thanks for the great show Moron, i eagerly await the next. - Tue, 31 May 2005 8:43am

hey, I really enjoyed this show. I really liked the LoVid skull deal, that was really awesome. Also the Straiph stop-motion animation was good too.

For some reason I don't really like guitar noise as a centerpiece for a set. However, that circuit-bender from the videos was really hilarious; I want his robot. Anyways so I didn't really like the first noise performance.

//num, at first, were alright. then they dragged, then they got way too structured. I don't really see how they fit on the bill.

I walked in on ape of the night near the end of their set, and said to myself 'finally this sounds like someone who isn't fucking around.' I had to laugh when the masks came off.

grandpa big balls sure knows how to drink. good set.

blood frequency scared the shit out of me. if that woman had not been hurt it definitely would have been my favourite performance of the night.

flatgrey was right up my alley. lashen's other band, o death here is thy prophet (dark experimental folk) is great, and I hear he's working on a new blackmetal band called witchking in vancouver.

the last group I saw was the rita, who I was basically sticking around for. they did not disappoint one bit.

overall I would say this is the best noisefest I've been to yet and here's looking forward to next year.

ps. special mention to my gf for sticking it out, waking up at 10am because I thought the videos started at noon, and putting in 12 hours standing in that virtual oven that was the 50/50. most of my friends couldn't even hack it that long and some of them actually played in noise bands. - Tue, 31 May 2005 11:37am
