No drunks will be beaten up at this show unless they are some jerk who tries to start a fight. The "bands associated with FSU" junk is internet rumour and I'd rather it not be perpetrated here. Canon.docre, the bands don't beat people up, as far as I know, and most likely not when they're in a foreign country. All I want is for this show to go without any assholes showing up trying to get in for free, or that moron kid Nick showing up just to get himself arrested when the centre attendant calls the cops. However people who know them are saying that Death Before Dishonor had a member quit and won't be able to play the tour with Blacklisted. They may find a fill-in guitarist and complete the tour, or Blacklisted may find a different band to come with them. These are guys who pose with 40 oz liquor bottles in photos. The last time there was an incident of straight edge kids beating up someone because they were drinking was...well...never. And for all the irrationally, rabidly anti-straightedge people who browse this board, thinking, "oh that's so wrong, it happens all the time"...when have any of these people actually sat down and looked at facts rather than allowing prejudice against some imaginary group of "straightedge militants" inform their thinking? So-called straightedge "violence" (and by that I mean stories labelled that by the media for the sake of sensationalism, easy sound bites, and pigeonholing of kids into a nicely definable group) taking place in places like SLC Utah have more to do with the individual kids being violent, not the lifestyle subculture. Why doesn't Geraldo report on the other 99% of edge kids who've never been involved in violence of any kind? Could it be because that wouldn't be a marketable enough product that advertisers would pay for on "news" programming, the kind that wouldn't attract audience attention and ratings? I'd challenge anyone to prove me wrong. Not one of those "I heard from a guy who knows this kid who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavours last night" stories either. The absurd portrayal of straightedge in the last few years is no different than the mid-80's villification of "punk" into the psychopaths terrorizing the high schools, rather than the victims of ostracization, as it actually was. I was referring to the 'bad apple'. If anyone interpreted my personal opinion and disapproval of the 'bad apple' as me stereotyping all straightedgers then you have my apologies and assurances that I didnt mean to. I find that sometimes people forget about tolerance and respect for other people in the guise of 'believing in something'. When people drink discretely and respectfully outside all-ages shows I don't care, I don't think anyone in this town does. It's when they try to stumble in without paying and then get in my face and try to fight me when I won't let them that problems arise. I'm pretty sure most drinkers at shows have always been understanding of this, that venues will get shut down when neighbours complain about whatever they see outside the place. When someone is drinking a beer outside a show, it's only a problem when that person is being loud and obnoxious and drawing attention, or worse yet, trying to vandalize or damage the venue. For the record, if some violent, sober straightedge kid tried to walk in without paying and got up in my face, trash the venue, or otherwise mess with what we're doing, he'd get the same treatment as any drunk freeloader kid.
