I was sick for a long while, and missed a lot of shows. I guess I've been trying to make up for it:

Thursday - tried to get to the Co-Pilots (Chad from Assertion/Foster Kare & 2 other cool improv jazz guys) and Human Hi-Light Reel at the Columbia (Adonai) but a meeting I had earlier ran late.. and it rained hard. I lose.

Friday - tried to get out to catch a touch of East Van WipeOut/Foster Kare at the CandyBar but someone needed help so I flaked on an LMV volunteer/friend and didn't go. I suck again.
I finally got out and stopped by the Waldorf to say hi to various (Transylvanian Polka, Dollar Store Jesus, HHLR etc) and to heckle Plow (outside cuz he wasn't on yet).
Then I hit the Columbia only to find out that Bronze from Vic & Lownote (members of Goatsblood, Kytami on violin etc), who I was all hyped to see, cancelled. Or never actually agreed to play, the promoter just listed it that way.
So I went to the Brickyard and caught a bit of The Vincent Black Shadow. Not a crowd I'm used to! Pretty theatrical in a way. I wish I'd stayed cuz I know Jonathan from the Art of Dying who was headlining and I bet they're good.
But I'd already committed to seeing Hezzekya, so I went back to the Columbia for them and banged my head all night long. STONER! (although I wasn't..)

Saturday - I braved the rain to catch the first half of Antiquus at the Brickyard. Loads of energy - really upbeat and got the crowd going early. Good stuff.
Then I went over to see Sanne Lambert at Pub340. She had gogo dancers (one from the Taboo Revue, I think)! I haven't seen her in forever - voice is strong and band was tight.
Back to the Brickyard for ML7 - so good to see them in full force! Skilled players, captivating/intense frontman, I was into it. I recognized one of their songs! And a cover at the end too, but I don't know what it was. Damnit, wanted to meet ML7Mike etc (msg board celebrities!) after but they seemed to have bailed early or something. :(
Infernal Majesty - I've gotten a lot out of seeing IM in the past, but I couldn't hear much seperation that night for some reason. Maybe I was tired. People seemed into it.. good to see a few people out I hadn't seen in a while.

Sunday - Stopped by 340 to catch the Rain and the Sidewalk, but the bar was open til 2 so their set got bumped later and I couldn't wait. Got some major chattin' in though!
Headed out to Power Clown at the Cellar. I won't gush again.. I love PC and they did a great job given the circumstances. It was a different scene than a regular bar though - a definate party crowd, rather than a more music(?) crowd. They knew how to handle it (wet t contest & all) and pulled the 2nd set off especially well, and I banged my head some more. BUT those clowns need a big stage - give da clowns their dignity. they're rock stars damnit!

Not a bad wknd a'tall. Wish I could write more about each. Talked with a lot of different people about a lot more music stuff to come in town, in different zines, different rooms etc.. its lookin' up!!!

Was anyone off here at any of those shows? - Mon, 23 May 2005 10:41am

Thanks for coming out, Sati!
Fun show! We had a blast playing.
After we played we ended up having some drinks in our van outside the venue with some friends. We did go back in sporadically to check out IM's set, but the sound coming through the P.A. was treble hell. Hard to bear even with ear plugs. The Brickyard could use a new P.A. and perhaps a soundman. - Mon, 23 May 2005 11:35am

Like I said, I was kinda catching up!
Hey Mr. Hell, my pleasure, it was pretty exciting for everyone to have you guys back in town. And I recognized you from your picture! I wasn't sure which one Mike was - the blond guy?

Yeah, I stayed at the back mostly through IM's set.. I just wasn't feeling it, and I definately have before with those guys, so it was a shame. The Brickyard will obviously hear about this stuff.. the guy who put in the system is (or has been) on tour with SYL, I think, and the guy who was their regular before has been on tour with his pop band. Not sure whats going on now.. some rotating it seems. Never saw the guy that night before. We'll try and make sure its cleaned up for next time! - Mon, 23 May 2005 4:48pm

Hi Sati.. I was hanging out in the middle or on the right for much of Infernal Majesty's set, but I had the earplugs in pretty good to deal with the harsh sound system, and so it sounded ok hehe.. their playing was on but the PA was making some explosive pops on the left side of the stage.

That is me up top and Lincoln on drums>> - Mon, 23 May 2005 5:58pm
