Great lineup featuring 3 of Victoria's top bands. This show was a warmup for Maurice's big gig tomorrow night alongside Theory of a Deadman & Default. First of 3 shows for the Armchair Cynics as they play Vancouver tomorrow and with Sloan on Sunday @ Legends.

Maurice: missed 'em. Sorry guys, stuck at work 'til 11. Good luck tomorrow night.

Armchair Cynics: a very solid set full of energy after a bit of a rocky start. Considering that the lead singer's car was broken into immediately before the show, followed by an always-appreciated broken string during the second song, I thought the guys really brought it back with the third song of the set. Ryan was just givin'er the whole time on the kit! I thought they would lose it during the buildup in the bass & drum break but somehow they kept it together. Great guitar tones coming from Adam, solid rich bass from Aran, and very powerful lead vocals from Kenn. Keep up the energy for your next two shows, and have fun opening for Sloan!

theset: only stayed for the first half of the(ir)set as I have to work in the morning and Martin reminded me that it was waaayy past my bedtime. But I wanted to see his crazy vocal effects. I must say that Martin's pedalboard is pretty sweet, especially for a vocalist! You put your guitarists to shame...
Anyways, I thought theset had improved since their Zone Show, and the energy coming from Martin and Tristan, especially, was undeniable. I really dug the intro to the "I'm sorry officer..." song. Keep up the good work boys, I'm curious to hear more recordings. - Sat, 7 May 2005 1:38am
