DK User Info... | The triumphant return of the new Proles (minus Kenny)! I had a lot of fun at this show, the new Proles songs sounded great. Grey Army was a really pleasant surprise, really tight thrashy street punk with awesome vocals. L.I.D. were kind of cheesy, but that was the point so it was fun. Rebel Spell have improved, it was nice to see so many kids singing along too, these guys definitely deserve the huge following they have in western Canada right now. I have a short video of the Proles from this show, if anyone is interested just post here and I'll e-mail it to you or something. - Sun, 30 Jan 2005 11:59am

josh User Info... | John, you did an exelent job on the show. Congrats to the bands that played you all did exelent. What was the first band that played? for being as young as they looked they were really spot on especaily the bassist. Id have to say it was an exelent show, and the gym venue is WAYYYY better then that other one. How did it do $$$ wise?, there were alot of fucking kids there. ill take the video. - Sun, 30 Jan 2005 1:24pm
Bryan User Info... | yeah show was awesome. i'm surprised i went home with very little scrapes or bruises! but the proles were much better (sans kenny and avec zac). you know, nothing against kenny really... i know i saw green army but don't really remember them. nah i wasn't drinkin or anything. but yeah, so i like Lid. first time i've heard 'em. i didn't so much think they were cheesy as they more kinda remind me of an old street punk band. folks w/ "personality". i thought rebel spell kicked ass as usual. good to hear some new stuff. hope to see a new record from them soon. and if any person cares to send such video of les proles, gofer, please. bryan i mean rayne - Sun, 30 Jan 2005 2:02pm

x Buddy x User Info... | The show was a giant success , all the bands played really well and the crowd was awesome. There were no problems and everything went smoothly. There were tons of kids , and a bunch i haven't seen in while so that was awesome. There was enough people that i as able to pay all the bands even after all the hall rental costs and such. All and all it was a great show , thanx so much to all the bands and all the people who really helped me out a lot and thanx to everyone who came out. - Sun, 30 Jan 2005 5:24pm
OnioN User Info... | Good show. - Sun, 30 Jan 2005 5:49pm
darcy User Info... | great show. eight bit dream was a lot better than the last time i saw them, and the minor threat cover was nice. proles were sweet, with the new line up and all. the grey army was pretty sweet. very strong street punk sound. l.i.d. was really fantastic and catchy. and the rebel spell are freakin' brilliant. great band. - Sun, 30 Jan 2005 6:07pm
ben User Info... | great show. all the other bands played well, rebel spell kicked ass, the venue was sweet. thank you john for putting on an awesome show - Sun, 30 Jan 2005 7:08pm
Chuck User Info... | Awesome show, words cannot describe. I have not been to an all ager in a while and this one was the one to be at for sure. I am so out of it that I did not even know who the hell the Grey Army was, it was great to see Dan singing and the rest of the band is equally great. Lid was total fun as they always are! Eight Bit Dream did look young but played experienced seemed to really know what they were doing. The Proles, oh how good you kids are starting to sound as you grow older. You guys rock! One question though what the hell happened to DIY? They still together I loved Zac as the singer in a band. Oh well whatever. The Rebel Spell were so good I found myself still driving around singing their tunes at 2 in the morning, feeling like I had just heard them a minute before. Tight band great message! I meant to ask them if I could book them to play a show over here when they next wanted to come back. well maybe John can give me their contact info... - Sun, 30 Jan 2005 7:36pm
Luc User Info... | DIY is still going strong, but I am in Halifax at the present moment so thus the lacking of shows. Hoping to play a DIY/Proles show once I get home.... Too bad i missed this show it sounded like it was a blast! - Sun, 30 Jan 2005 7:50pm
Tyler User Info... | I enjoyed this show... I can't really unbiasedly review the show because I don't like punk music that much. 8 bit dream impressed me though, I had much less expectations. I really dig the guitarist, he seems skilled for his age. I don't like the vocals but that's just personal preference. Everything was tight though. I was losing interest as other bands played. I'm glad Kenny isn't in the Proles anymore though, he's such a jerk to almost everyone. I forget which band it was but the guy with the mickey mouse/skull shirt (probably some band I should know so sorry for not knowing) had the same shoes as me. I was really impressed with the turnout and everything about this show went smoothly. Great job John. And I think that the sound was pretty good in that area of the JBCC. I liked a lot of the people who went, but unfortunately that guy in the orange mohawk who goes to shows to pick fights came. And he brought some of his friends. I was also disappointed by how many tiny kids were drunk. Gah. Oh well, a different scene than what I'm into, whatever. I've got an album of all the pictures I took that night.. I went a little crazy with my camera as some people saw... http://www.ofoto.com/BrowsePhotos.jsp?showSlide=true&Uc=9e2l8yj.n6u35dr&Uy=k6agfc&Upost_signin=BrowsePhotos.jsp%3FshowSlide%3Dtrue&Ux=0 you have to sign up but it's the most convenient place for me to upload pictures so sorry - Sun, 30 Jan 2005 9:13pm
Cuchulainn User Info... | I'm thrilled with how that show turned out... energy in the pit, a solid fucking line up, and zero intolerance. i WAS wondering if a very small number of people would show, because of the lack of shows for the last few months, but obviously it was the opposite. Rebel Spell has got something great going on, I've seen em a few times and they put on a damn good show. LID I enjoyed, unfortunatelyu did not play 'drinkin fightin friday night'. 8Bit Dream did well for their age. Grey Army impressed me, had some great riffs and vox. Proles: Thanks for the reviews, and thanks for the fucking circle pit, twas good to see some SHOV at the show too. - Sun, 30 Jan 2005 9:15pm
rayne User Info... | haha, the "orange mohawk guy and friends" comment made me giggle like a little school boy dressed in a school girl's uniform. grey army duh. i remember them now. reading my earlier post i apparently got them confused with some rebel spell lyrics. so i really wasn't drunk... still had a headache next morning. hmm i remember us being told by john to start forming a circle pit. i refused. i wanted a good ol' square or possibly triangle pit with complete and utter chaos. not sure if it ever really turned out that way. i honestly just didn't care a whole lot. oh and i appreciate the efforts on john's part to keep empties in one spot for easy removal (and deposit refund no doubt), especially not under those fuckin' bleachers. and yes, 'twas good to see the skins supporting the punk scene. good on ya fellas and of course the ladies as well. ~bry bry - Sun, 30 Jan 2005 11:06pm
Gherkin User Info... | A good show, many humans having fun and lots of people that I knew and liked. The first punk show I've attended since May of last year and I wasn't disappointed. The only qualm I have is with the reviewers of said show. Those of you who mentioned 8 Bit Dream at all said "They were pretty good for their age." What sort of nonesense is that? If a band is good, they're good, regardless of the number of years they've accumulated. While you're cricizing musicians for things other than their music, you may as well say "The guitar player and the drummer for The Rebel Spell were pretty good, despite the fact that they had two x chromosomes" or "The drummer from the Proles was pretty good for a guy with glasses." Since when do you need to be old enough to get into a bar to be taken seriously when you play at an all ages show? Fie on anyone who made the back-handed compliment "Good for a bunch of kids." - Mon, 31 Jan 2005 9:20am
Cuchulainn User Info... | "I liked a lot of the people who went, but unfortunately that guy in the orange mohawk who goes to shows to pick fights came." He doesn't come to pick fights, he just thrashes hard... apparently that equals a kickout lately. That's why I was thankful this was a good ole fashioned punk show, people like Allan can mosh hard without fear of being ejected from the venue. I think the drinking was handled perfectly, and those doing the drinking didn't attract any police attention or break bottles (except one I saw being swept up by john, and he was being a good sport about it). - Mon, 31 Jan 2005 9:42am
Nat User Info... | the guy with the mohawk with irritating as hell. but it was great to slam him on the ground when he came round the pit. good show but i think a stage area was lacking...it was too bright in the venue. the bands kicked some ass. i lost a contact halfway through the night and as a result felt like i was on acid the whole time. regardless, the guy with the mohawk was irritating ad me and my friends wanted to shove the spikes up his ass=) - Mon, 31 Jan 2005 9:46am

JF User Info... | I had a fuckin blast! missed the first band, The Proles however played magnificently! I had alot of fun during their set and would love to see them again soon! Grey Army played great as well, thier singer is totally thrashy and rad. And the Rebel Spell... what to say that hasnt already been said...fun, fun, fun. But what is with Tyler up there... " Iam not here for the music, i just came to judge other people and comment on thier choice of fashion!", why do assholes like that keep coming to shows? THIS IS A BULLY FREE SCENE! so piss off and stop coming to our shows you emo retard! what ever happend to posi force Nat??? Oh yeah, i was glad to see the skins and punks getting along so nicely too! - Mon, 31 Jan 2005 4:06pm
x Buddy x User Info... | Yah the one broken bottle wasn't a big deal , andthe drinking was handled pretty well. Of course i expect their to be drinking at a punk show , i am just glad the cops didn't come by, however the beer cans under the bleachors was annoying. The dude with the orange moehawk is rad, I have talked with him and stuff a few times now and he seems like a super cool and its rad that he rocks out so hard. However I also know Tyler , who is also super rad and he's not "emo retard". Just a miss understanding about peoples intentions , just like the guy with the orange moehawk doesn't mean to cause fights , tyler isn't trying to judge anyone. And besides the whole point of his post for the most part was to say "even though i don't particularly enjoy this genre of music , i still had a good time" at least thats what i took from it anyway. And nowhere in his post did he judge anyone fashion, so i don't know why that comment was made. - Mon, 31 Jan 2005 6:05pm
HARi User Info... | Twas a grand show. 8 bit played great even if they were out of place. I was sick, so the whole proles set could have been better. Grey Army and Lid were better then the last time i'd seen them. The Rebel spell was soild with one of the most crazy pits i have ever seen in victoria. With the mix of everone (skin's, punks, sXes, drunks) it was gnar to see everyone get along. Thanx Edgecore for the excilent show. - Mon, 31 Jan 2005 7:21pm
Tyler User Info... | yeah I guess it is irrational for me to say things about mr orange mohawk without even talking to him. But you kind of took that a little too far, I wasn't meaning to judge anyone and the main point of my post was that the show was successful so I'm sorry you misunderstood me. "even though i don't particularly enjoy this genre of music , i still had a good time" was exactly what I was trying to say. And I agree with everyone here that despite the mix of people, everyone got along really well. - Mon, 31 Jan 2005 8:13pm
Jen McDonald User Info... | yeah that would be tight if u could send me that video of the proles...thanks - Mon, 31 Jan 2005 8:16pm
OnioN User Info... | Why the hell would anybody have an issue with somebody "expressing" themselves in the pit anyway??? This was a fucking PUNK ROCK show and people get rowdy sometimes. The guy with that orange mohawk was fine, and I've seen a million just like him through years and years of playing punk shows. He minded his own business- and I saw plenty of paranoid people just waiting for that guy to bump into them just so they could make a big deal out of it. Some of you "punks" would have been eaten alive at a Dayglos or Shutdown show back in the day........... - Mon, 31 Jan 2005 9:09pm
JF User Info... | no problem tyler, i guess i got carried away. - Mon, 31 Jan 2005 9:24pm
Chris Rebel User Info... | I have to say the show @ James Bay was pretty awsome...I used to live in Vic years ago and i rarely witness that kind of energy at all ages shows. I missed the first band, was to busy visiting old friends outside. The Proles i enjoyed, 2nd time seeing and playing with them...It was good to see my old freinds LID get the attention and energy they deserve, hopefully they show up at more all ages, they r pretty fun. Grey Army was insanely cool, fast, hardcore, intense. I thought the singers head was gonna blow right off with the vocals he was delivering...Thanx for having the rebel spell, hopefully see you sometime in spring...rumour has it that we may be playing with AK47...Line up i would be stoked on is to play with AK47, War By Other Means, and Grey Army...So hopefully someone works on it... - Mon, 31 Jan 2005 10:25pm
hunter User Info... | fuck yeah, warbom and ak! - Mon, 31 Jan 2005 10:54pm
the grey army User Info... | i have to say that was the most fun i have had at an all ages show in a long time. all the bands were awesome, and the energy in that room was insane. good to see such a huge turnout. we would be more than happy to be a part of above mentioned line up. thanx to all who put the show on and all that came out. - Mon, 31 Jan 2005 11:16pm
DK User Info... | Ok the video is too big to be sent in an e-mail and I can't get it down to the right size, so if anyone wants the video then add my on SoulSeek my username is: polsum I'll keep it in a file marked "VictoriaProles" - Tue, 1 Feb 2005 12:26am
Lurker User Info... | Gherkin, saying that 8 Bit Dream was good for their age is not a backhanded compliment, it's simply true. Generally bands that have not been together for very long and have young members sound very sloppy and amateur. This was not the case with 8 Bit Dream. That said, they did sound like a young band that will likely become a lot more solid with experience. In my opinion they were not as good as the other bands that played, but at the same time I was impressed that such a young and inexperienced band could play a set that was pretty consistently tight and sounded well practiced. I expect that this band's sound will improve immensely in the months (or years) to come. - Tue, 1 Feb 2005 1:50pm
Pascal User Info... | I had an awesome time. Hasn't been a good show like that in Vic for ages. There was some crazy energy in the pit pretty much the entire time... well, I didn't see much during the first band but then I wasn't in there much then either. Not too sure who was who 'cept for the proles and rebel spell of course, but the whole time I was in there the bands were great. Regardless, I'm kinda just echoing the general sentiment that the show was awesome. To the people that are complaining about Alan and everyone moshing too hard... damn dude, its a punk show. If you have a problem with being bumped into by people having a good time... you could try not standing right up at the front for one. Its kind of your own fault that you're getting hit if you position yourself right near the mass of kids thrashing around. That's all. Lookin forward to the next show. - Tue, 1 Feb 2005 3:54pm
Tyler User Info... | it feels like I'm digging myself into a deeper hole, but maybe I didn't make myself clear enough the second time either I have nothing against energy at a show. In fact, I love it when the pits get crazy and it shows people are enjoying themselves. My comment was "but unfortunately that guy in the orange mohawk who goes to shows to pick fights came. And he brought some of his friends" by that, I was referring to the fact that in the PAST, at a hardcore show, he has thrown punches in a seeming effort to start fights (which was not related to the music or this show in any way). Like you guys said though, everyone behaved themselves. and everyone had a great time. I did correct myself that I shouldn't have judged him based on how I've seen him act in the past. He brings a lot of energy to the pit like you guys say, which is a plus. The fact that several of you misunderstood my point proves that I should really watch how I say things on here, as I'm not looking to complain or cause fights. if anyone's still got a problem with what I'm saying, this is a hopeless cause. but whatever. John, I hope you put more shows on like this because nothing went wrong at all. - Tue, 1 Feb 2005 5:40pm

rayne User Info... | the video link on the rebel spell site is actually pointing to a file on someone's (presumably a rebel) harddrive. i've noticed there's a lot of people that come to shows that can't enjoy themselves because they take things too fuckin' personally... as for me, i wanna see some bands play some music, and i respond to said music according to how i feel about what they're playing and how much energy i have at that particular moment. i had a proles tune stuck in my head for a couple days and, thanks to kerstin's friend (i don't know his name), who kept singing the chorus of this song incorrectly, i'm constantly being irritated by thoughts of young super-outcasts who's power lies mostly in their ability to stay where they are. ...doesn't mean anything. it's just stuff in brain. i tried taking pictures of each of the bands. all my pictures sucked. i had no skills that day. blurriness, folks being cut in half, taking the picture at the worst moment, flashes constantly not going off and causing darkness to consume the image. also, one shouldn't take certain pictures after shows unless one is drunk or high. I was neither, but it can be awkward if you aren't on something (i suggest drinking as it would be quite entertaining). - Wed, 2 Feb 2005 12:59pm

Cuchulainn User Info... | "...i'm constantly being irritated by thoughts of young super-outcasts who's power lies mostly in their ability to stay where they are. ...doesn't mean anything. it's just stuff in brain." Geez bryan, you missed the message, To correct you, the words are: "We're youth, we're strong We'll FIND where we belong I'm an outcast just like you So let's unite cos we are youth!" I don't believe any of the young super-outcasts should be staying where they are... and certainly should be questioning where they belong. One last comment about AllEn: He unites people in the scene, even if they are united against him, so show some respect for the little fucker. - Wed, 2 Feb 2005 11:00pm
rayne User Info... | ben: i dinna say those were your words, dude. the nonsensicle adaptation comes from weird guy i met at show who was hanging out w/ kerstin. he was making up his own version of the song we had just heard, which was fine, but he kept saying the same words but mixed up in different ways, until i told him that if he stopped doing that i'd be his best friend and he said "really?" and i said "no, probably not..." then he continued doing it and i had to go somewhere else. But thank you, i appreciate the correction, cuz i'm gettin' older and am having difficulties remembering things. - Thu, 3 Feb 2005 7:45am
