cooper User Info... | Finally got to see Maurice after seeing them as Carpet nearly 2 years ago! First, Black Tie Social: Great last song! Haha, sorry I couldn't make it for the rest of the set, but if I were to judge a whole set based on that one song, I would say you were very tight as a group, great balance, and each instrument stood out without being overpowering. Maurice: So impressed with these guys, although I'm going to need to see some more shows to see what they're fully capable of. Some great songwriting, love the keys, and Connor's drumming is just plain impressive. If I may make one suggestion - JP's main/heaviest distortion (used mostly in the chorus of songs) was just the nastiest sound ever, and not in a good way. Maybe that's the sound you're going for, but I gotta say, it didn't fit the songs at all. Other than that, I loved the set, and I can't wait to hear some recorded material. Check out Maurice again at Steamer's on SATURDAY night (not Friday!). P.S. was that a mini Strat JP was playing, or was I just hallucinating...?? - Tue, 4 Jan 2005 1:20am
Psycho Chic User Info... | If you want to hear some of their recorded material log on to http://www.thezone.fm/?zone=local and scroll down to "Check out previous bands of the month" where it says Maurice under November. Click on them and their page will pop up with samples of their songs and interviews about their music. - Tue, 4 Jan 2005 9:17am
Onemosphere User Info... | I have to say, Black Tie Social stole the show. Their songs were catchier and they had a lot of energy despite a very small crowd. Maurice were very good also, very tight song structure, but I couldn't focus on the music because the band seemed to "pretty". - Tue, 4 Jan 2005 3:36pm
Eurydice User Info... | There is never such thing as too pretty :) - Tue, 4 Jan 2005 3:47pm
Onemosphere User Info... | I wasn't feeling the coordinated dress shirt action. - Tue, 4 Jan 2005 3:52pm
Psycho Chic User Info... | Whatever, Maurice is so hot right now (except Devon). - Tue, 4 Jan 2005 9:34pm
KinChris User Info... | The show was quite good. I've seen Maurice play a bunch of times before so I knew they'd be awesome. They didn't disappoint. And yeah, they look pretty and they dress flashy (well 3/4 does), but that's what rockers are supposed to be. Music is first and foremost, but having the right image can make or break a band. First time seeing Black-tie. They had some really interesting parts and song arrangements that kept my attention very well. But opposed to what Onemosphere thinks, they could have put on a better performance visually. They looked awkward and bored at times. I'm sure with a bit some more stage experience, and cutting out that blues jam crap, they'll put on a better show. Next time Maurice or Black Tie Social plays, I'll be at that show. - Tue, 4 Jan 2005 11:05pm
[+} User Info... | thank you to all who braved the cold to come and gather around for songs. maurice was good sounding, from what i could hear while loading gear. unfortunately, black tie social is almost entirely under-age.. so we had to scoot. paul. we play good songs last because of you! we aim to please you always. and thank you onemosphere for thinking we were catchy. and not as pretty. much love. - Tue, 4 Jan 2005 11:23pm
Joshua Hooligan User Info... | black tie social melted my face with their radness. such a grand show guys! keep on being so freakin dope. amen. so be it. - Wed, 5 Jan 2005 1:32am
Psycho Chic User Info... | KinChris, check out Maurice this Saturday night at Steamers around 9pm. Coverage is free and supposedly they're handing out free beer! Can't beat that! - Wed, 5 Jan 2005 8:26am
KinChris User Info... | Oh, I'll be at Steemers for shizzle. I'd also like to add: It's great that Lucky is doing a regular band night on Mondays. Now if only they could lower their drink prices. I hate paying full price for beers on weeknights. - Wed, 5 Jan 2005 11:12am
[+} User Info... | thanks kinchris. i feel the exact same way about the bluesy jams, oddly enough. - Wed, 5 Jan 2005 12:11pm
Onemosphere User Info... | Just not as pretty as Maurice, don't worry. That band was too handsome for it's own good. - Wed, 5 Jan 2005 3:33pm
[+} User Info... | thanks for thinking us pretty! - Wed, 5 Jan 2005 10:41pm
Psycho Chic User Info... | Is there such a thing as too handsome (if the music is good)? Everybody likes eye candy! I totally agree with KinChris. If you want to make it in the rock biz then you've got to look the part. If you just want to be a garage band in Victoria then who cares what you wear. - Thu, 6 Jan 2005 9:45am
Onemosphere User Info... | " They looked awkward and bored at times" Mainly just the bass player, and I ignored that because I harbored a boyish crush on her. As far as Maurice looking the part goes, I thought they DIDN"T look the part, and that was the problem. They looked more like a Gap commercial in their "going to the concert" outfits. - Fri, 7 Jan 2005 12:25am
john User Info... | whats wrong with the gap? maybe those were their "going to the concert outfits" it would make sense, they went to a concert...?... yes? - Fri, 7 Jan 2005 12:18pm
[+} User Info... | they were playing one. i have no problems with a band looking professional by wearing a uniform.. for some bands it really works. and it wasn't -that- matching, it was just some western shirts, but i see what you are saying Onemosphere. and stay away from my bass player! we need her! - Fri, 7 Jan 2005 12:33pm
Onemosphere User Info... | I can't promise anything. - Fri, 7 Jan 2005 6:24pm
cooper User Info... | I'm practically a walking Gap advertisement, yet I never play gigs. Am I missing something? Should I only be saving these clothes for performing?? - Sat, 8 Jan 2005 1:52am
Onemosphere User Info... | I thought that's what GAP was for. - Sat, 8 Jan 2005 4:03am
RollingRocks User Info... | Blues Jam crap? Way to put down your own band, Aidan. - Sat, 8 Jan 2005 12:21pm
[+} User Info... | i love you chris. - Sat, 8 Jan 2005 1:00pm
Don User Info... | Yup this was another great show for Maurice and Black Tie Social. I have heard them play on the same stage last summer and they have both improved immensely. Get out and see these two bands locally while you still can. They are going places!!! Anyone interested in seeing them together again this spring? Perhaps a follow up show "Lovers in a dangerous Town part II" should be planned. That would be at the White Eagle Hall again!!!!!! - Mon, 17 Jan 2005 7:21pm
