for some reason Sarah Machlachlan and Rod Stewrat tickets are Uber-Expensive....The multitude would be better served seeing some good music like Death Sentence instead. $10 Bux versus $75-$120? A bargain and better music... - Sat, 18 Dec 2004 2:46am

Thx for posting the pics, a shame I couldn't make it cause I really wanted to see both bands. Pity I missed the shivs, methinks Dustin is wondering where the hell I took off too cause I was supposed to do some work for The Shivs, a website if I can remember (which I'm having a hard time doing these days :). - Sat, 18 Dec 2004 2:05pm

i can't believe how few people were at this show, i thought it would have been jam packed in there...anyways, the Shivs were great...they played a tight set and Blark didn't fall off the stage. after a long intermission, Death Sentence took the stage and ripped into a good mix of the "old" songs and ones from the "other" DS album..and a couple of covers..fuckin cool to finally see these guys again, Dan Scum did a wicked job filling in for Tim on the Bass and his vocals were awesome , DS rocked as a three piece..and Doug Doughnut showed why he is definately at the top 'o the pile when it comes to hardcore/punk drummers around here, awesome to watch...i thought the set was way too short and i think the crowd could have stayed all night to see those guys rip it up on stage again...can't wait till next time..rumour has it DS may be playing in the sleepy hollow of Nanaimo in the new year. - Sat, 18 Dec 2004 6:05pm

If you were to do a list of the top ten punk bands in Canada... Death Sentence would be on it!!! If you were to write a list of the top ten punk songs by a Canadian band... Death Sentence would have a few slots!!!

ladies and gentlemen the Juno goes to..... Avril Lavigne & GOB????

Hardy har har!

Its a strange shame the Lucky bar wasn't full to the rafters with punks to see a real punk band like Death Sentence!

Ok, I deleted my bitter post about DT playing Vic instead of Van. Shame about the turnout. Last time I saw them, they were pretty decent before the fighting broke out... it was pretty funny though, Dan like a jack in the box just popping back up with a big smile on his face everytime he got hit in the head!

Thanks for posting pics Wolf - always awesome for those who've missed out!! - Mon, 20 Dec 2004 10:57am

I really enjoyed this show. The Shivs were great, really cool. I never got a chance to see Death Sentence in the 80's. Always regretted it. I was really looking forward to this show and I wasn't disappointed. Dan does a great job and vocals and bass. The band was fucking awesome. Doug tears the drums apart. The Bad Brains cover made my night.
I have to admit that I was disappointed with the turnout however. Where was everyone? Am I wrong about Death Sentence being a cool fucking band? From a business standpoint that show flopped which sucks. I would appreciate some feedback here. Do people think $10 is too much to pay to see a band. There were some decent drink specials. Was everyone saving their money for Christmas? Should I continue to put on punk shows? Ben. - Mon, 20 Dec 2004 4:54pm

hmm..about the lack of crowd, i wondered about the ticket price, and i know that some people may have stayed away because of it...but c'mon...its Fucking Death Sentence, these guys shouldn't have any problems getting a couple extra bucks to see them. It may have been too close to christmas, and most finals are done, so alot of student types have left town. Who knows, but the crowd always makes the show in my opinion, and this one could have been just that much better had the crowd be packed in there... - Mon, 20 Dec 2004 5:09pm

Of course you should continue to put on punk shows - don't be daft! 10$ was well worth it, and I don't know where everyone was - shame on anyone that didn't attend. Maybe with the spawning of Absolute Underground, and some old fashioned ass-kickin into gear get yer fuckin asses out there, it will be progressive eventually. Maybe it was the X-mas bug, I don't know, but have faith and continue the music. Thanks for the wonderful pics again Wolfie, AND EVERYBODY GET YER ASSES OUT THERE! FUCK SAKES! - Mon, 20 Dec 2004 7:18pm

To be honest, DS is met with some ambivalence over here too, and I'm not too sure why.. I suspect that it might be due to inflated egos of some of the members? I'm just speculating.. I'm not a guy so I don't really know how they are between their buddies in the scene. All I know is that the couple of times I saw them, they blew me away - they're so suited to that project, and Dan loves what the band stands for so much that he puts his all into it... and thats a LOT when its Dan. He totally becomes the part.

So to me $10 is totally worth it and a bargain for a band with that much history, repertoire and who can deliver too. But maybe playing cheaper shows more often is the way to go while they start up again.. otherwise maybe people feel like they're struttin' too much before they've really proven themselves with Dan. I just want to see them play a lot more, the bastards! I really do think that some of the lamer young punks can use some inspiration and lessons from these guys! It'll be good for the scene. - Mon, 20 Dec 2004 7:33pm

$10 is totally fair. problem with Victoria is/was/ and will always be everyone follows the masses. If the cool people in the group are too young or ignorant enough to know who the band is they won't go, and so the rest of the group (no minds) will follow, then complain there is nothing to do in Victoria. Certain people let thier ego's and or dope habits get out of control they stop participating so the followers go find a new clique. Ever been to a Dayglo's show with 10 people there, next month they play with 200 people there make sense? no!!! But it has always been that way in Vic. Where was everyone at the last Beaumonts show? They kicked ass!! MEGA ASS!!! 5 people in the bar 4 of them there just to hunt down Willy Jak. There is no sceene/clique or whatever unless YOU ALL PARTICIPATE!!!!!!!!!this means YOU!! So agian $10 is totally fair for a kick ass gig just advertise tonnes and let people know 'THIS IS THE SHIT, YOU WANT TO BE HERE TONIGHT!!!!!! - Mon, 20 Dec 2004 10:52pm

i think it's just this time of year. this week has been the shittiest ever at my work. i think explosive rage played to about 8 people on sat night. as for cover? 10$ for an out of town band as notorious as ds? we pay that here for local yokel redundants. vic gets off way too easy in the cover dept without factoring in ferries and travel costs. SO YES BEN, CONTINUE BOOKING SHOWS!!! it's good to keep it in the scene. also, how was the fubar thing for you? we were so busy, we were fucked. lined up down past the cambie, insane. - Tue, 21 Dec 2004 3:54am

I do find it true though that the punks in this town don't always support the shows, sometimes its really good support but other times its not so hot. I just makes it difficult to be able to commit to putting down the couple g's to bring some big named band when your unsure if the bands fans are gonna decide its cool to go and watch them that night when your gonna stand to loose a grand if they don't. I know where ben's comming from when your in the middle of talks to try and bring someone here and you see a show like Death Sentance fail like that you start to question if you should try and put the cash down to bring the next band. - Tue, 21 Dec 2004 8:22am

I would have had no prob paying $10 for Death Sentence and I would have been there but I always chill with my son on Friday nights- Saturday on the other hand...

I wish that i was independently wealthy and then i could check out every show that i wanted to, it comes down to time and money and the two rarely happen at the same time. - Tue, 21 Dec 2004 11:07am
