rickylong User Info... | Social Distortion, Tiger Army, and Explosion Nov 9 Commadore Vancouver. The show was Social Distrtion, Youth Brigade and the Dayglo Abortions live at the Victoria OAP hall 1982... i think. This was the last time I had the opportunity to see Social Distortion. Well that show got shut down by the RCMP due to The Dayglos and a few cases of beer beeing present backstage. All Ages ment NO BooZE. It was too bad, but at least i didn't miss the last bus home. So there I was, some twenty years later standing in the streets of Vancouver waiting to get into the Commadore to see Social Distortion. The crowd outside was a mob of greasers and punks waiting for extra tickets..... the show was sold out! Right next door Wilco was playing and the scalpers on the street were realizing they had bought tickets for the wrong show. One scalper was offering a Wilco ticket for $5. Who the hell is Wilco anyway? My friend ,Harri, and i hooked up with Ben from Lucky bar and we entered the gated line up to get into the Commadore. They were ID'ing everyone untill us three stepped up, they looked at us and waved us right through.... this kinda upset Ben. "I don't look as old as you guys!" We weren't at an All Ager tonight but somehow i got the feeling we were the most aged. We did a stroll around the place lookin for farmilliar faces and saw no one.... I wonder where all those punks that i used to see twenty years ago are now? A seat was found and after a drink the first band took to the stage. The Explosion from Boston. Young punk guys with energy and a few catchy melodies. Punk that was missing something for me but might fit in nice with that "Lets make money and do the WarpTour and sign a record contract and basically fit into the mass of punk bands that you see in the shopping mall." Not that there is anything wrong with that..... This was a sold out show! So the Explosion were good but...... Tiger Army.... AHHHHH Yes! This band is a must see! Psycho Billy, country, rockabilkly, and throw in a taste of the Misfits. The audience went off and i noticed tons of sweet lookin Betty Pages jiggin and singin along.... The center dancefloor was a mosh. Heads were boppin up and down as the stand up bass was a slappin and the heavily tattooed singer was a croonin. Yeahhhhh!!! This was thier first time in Canada and we can only hope it won't be their last time. I will be buying thier record soon! Tiger Army! Hey someone book these guys to play Victoria! I used to have an old chevy van that was a carpet cave... kind of a boogie van but dirtier. I had two cassette tapes for the tapedeck. Prison Bound and The self titled Social Distortion were played day after day and when i crawled out of that van ten years ago i left those tapes in it....... The lights dimmed and a man who was probably a couple of years older than me got onstage. Mike Ness, lookin like he said yes to the supersize option and he was still covered in tattoos. Funny thing about tattoos eh.... they don't wash off. He strapped his guitar on and drove right into Johnny Cash's Burning Ring of Fire. (RIP JC) The dancefloor plumbed and Commade's structural integrity was put to the test. I swayed and stommped my good leg to a flood of songs that i had forgotten about and left in that wall to wall carpet van. I had just spent a few weeks with Social D's new album, Sex Love and Rock and Roll, so the new songs were hits also. This band has it!!! I'm glad Social Distortion were playing a well deserved SOLD OUT show! Mommys Little Monster, Under My Thumb, Sick Boy, Prison Bound, and tons more that i was singin along to. They have some great songs and it made me realized I am a big fan of Social Distortion. Finnally after over twenty years I saw them live and will probably make sure I see them again. Wouldn't it have been ironic for me if the RCMP came into the Comadore that night and shut it down because there were under age kids there..... -rickylong - Fri, 12 Nov 2004 6:25am

Helonwheels User Info... | What a blast of a night! From the road trip that started the good times to the skirt ripping fun that went down on the floor of The Commodore Ballroom. It seemed that most people out for the show were just out to have a good time, not too many dickheads around and that’s always appreciated. There were even gentlemanly men who were actually being quite supportive of ladies who were getting tossed around a bit, nothing wrong with that. I hadn’t seen Social Distortion since a Warped Tour in Montreal back in 97’ and that was the first time that I had seen them, they stole the show and I have been hooked on them ever since. They were amazing, I wish that it wasn’t over, I wish that I was rich and I could just fly around and go check them out in other cities, I wish that I could live it again, one night just isn’t enough. This show will go down in history as one of the best for me. I met some great people, partied with ones that I already knew and saw a wicked wicked show. SOCIAL DISTORTION= The Cure to all that ails me. - Fri, 12 Nov 2004 3:27pm

Ty Stranglehold User Info... | It was a great show indeed. It was my third time SD(93 and 97 previously) and I think that I enjoyed this show the best. I know that I'm a rare one that was a little let down by Tiger Army. Frankly, I was bored. I have and enjoy their CDs too. I don't know what it was, but they just weren't doing it for me. Ricky nailed it on the head with The Explosion. The songs seemed catchy, but I just kept getting the vibe that these guys were thrown together by some label honcho to sell to the "kids". Ah well. Hellen, it was good to see you agian. Ricky, I can't believe I missed you there. Al youse other Vic folks, it was nice to see a little bit of home. - Fri, 12 Nov 2004 8:06pm
