So I went to Vancouver on Tuseday to see Throw Down, Childeren of Bodom, Fear Factory, and Lamb of God (in that order, thank you) perform at the Comodore.

Throw Down- I only caught the last few songs of theirs. OK, but not too unique. I'll never listen to these guys.

COB: These guys made the show fucking amazing. Kinda funny was the fact that they were all clones of each other. 5.8 ft, pale skin, long fine hair, a bit creepy really. But they were awsome. The keyboard player had his board tilted down so you could see what he was playing. Holly Shit was he ever ripping. And he didn't even seem to be thinking about what was going on. COB sounded even better at the show than they did on the CD.

FF: Ok. I was expecting more. I thought it was pretty cheezie that every time the singing occured, there was a voice harmoniser that kicked in with two different octives. I guess that's one way to make your voice sound powerfull. They also had a lot of sampled keys. You'd think FF is successfull enough that they could hire a keyboard player and have him sing a few back ups as well. Now, I wasn't paying attention to the other bands' feet, but FF didn't hit any pedals. They had a team back stage switching quitar effects during the song. Pretty Fucking Nickleback, if you ask me. I'm glad I got to see FF ,nevertheless.

Lamb of God: They were ok. Tight, but a bit boring. Singer didn't add anything to the band. A few guitar rifts keept me around for at least half their set, but I soon left after the Devin Townsend shout-out. Which by the way it's pretty cheezie to have someone come on stage for 10 seconds just to wave at the audience. Even if he does have a sweet skullet. If he was to sing a song with them or something, then it would have been cool.

Overall: Bodom owned the show. I'm gonna see them play every chance I get from now on. - Wed, 27 Oct 2004 3:09pm

so....i missed throw down
children of bodom were tight with awesome solos and gay frontman hair tosses (like i'm one to talk).
fear factory is some seriously lame over hyped crap.
Lamb of God destroyed. heavy as fuck and definately more entertaining than the previous two bands even without eyeliner, keyboards or cheezy space vocal effects.

this show was fucking GREAT...i showed the bouncer my FF tattoo and for some reason he let me back stage! I met LoG CoB, and a few members of SYL, though i got kicked out by LoG's bouncer heh. anyways, all went well, gotta broken nose, shit happens..
I'm gonna post a couple pics soon of me having beers w/ children of bodom...heh heh TIGHT!!
PS. Anyone else who was there, didn't it seem like the bands were kinda fucked up er something? Burton seemed really stoned and Lamb of God didnt seem as aggressive as they usually are? - Wed, 27 Oct 2004 11:47pm

ha! I like the biker chicks too. Here's my pared down review:
My roommate's ex got sick so I got his ticket just before. I felt like a little kid since its been so long since I've been to a big show - I've been seeing strictly local. I can't even remember the last time I was at the Commodore!

I missed the openers, getting the ticket too late. I wasn't disappointed by CoB but they didn't blow me away or anything, I thought they were pretty damn decent though. Fear Factory were alright at times, but overall I didn't get into them, too much old thrashy shit in there. And I have a MAJOR problem with strobes and looked down through most of it.
I think Lamb of God took the night, but they only had me for half their set, maybe. Although that guitarplayer did a solo early on that only a southern man could pull off. sweet. - Thu, 28 Oct 2004 10:45am

Dammmnnn , talk about negativity ?!? I thought it was a great show ! Only saw three bands COB , FF . LOG .

COB was a band I have never seen and they were amazing ! Definitely melodical and large sounding . Never noticed their stature , sorry ?

FF was kickass, started with the first two songs off of their new cd …… fucking GREAT ! Old thrash? Well…. Sounded like fear factory . Then they did a few off of Obsolete and then Digimortal , I like the old shit , oh well I’m old. Anyways I was awed and loving their whole set , the range of the singer is fucking wild ! Help from the wings to support the sound …yep it was there . But to support the range and change overs in the songs , you do what yea can do to get the sound just right …hey man it’s fear factory it’s the only way to meet up to the production sound and not come off sounding like a peice of crap . Met the singer in the hotel elevator after the show that was interesting !

LOG was who I was there to see , saw then at Ozzfest this year and they were the best thing on the second stage in my opinion . They have to be one of the best bands out there these days . The sound was so fast and driving ..so FUCKING EXOLENT !!

I’ve been listening to them for a few years and they just get better and better each album and thanking Devin for PRODUCING their new cd and bringing him out …… ? It’s Townsend man, I’d be proud of it too if it were me ! Plus one of SYL is playing for LOG so who gives a fuck ? Well worth the bucks to see them and put on a stellar show in my humble opinion !

Show was all-round A-1 and the staff and door crew at the ballroom made it a enjoyable experience all night . They actually told me that if it wasn’t for us they wouldn’t have a job and appreciation for our patronage . Don’t hear to many clubs workers say that . Plus they were one of the most polite and easy going crews .

Loved the show , SO SUE ME ! Just joking ! - Fri, 29 Oct 2004 10:28pm

XY-Satan.. I didn't think I was being too negative, just honest. But yeah, I have been kinda tired lately and maybe thats affecting my view of things. I did write about the show a little more extensively elsewhere and it came off a bit more positive when detailed!

..and if you care someone please explain affect vs effect and how to use. Always had trouble with that in grade 6 and have guessed since then. - Sat, 30 Oct 2004 3:43pm
