rP User Info... | Obviously there was some "tension in the air" last night as Plow put it. DOA announced their show at the Brickyard, and soon after The Dayglos called up Wendy wanting a show the same night at the Asbalt. The poster for the show hinted at some shit going on too, but for the most part, I don't think most people caught on. Those who did headed to the Asbalt, and those who didn't went to the rare DOA gig. I went over to the Asbalt early so I wouldn't miss Plow. He just got back from a month on the road with the Dayglos, and he didn't miss a beat. Nice bitter attack on his vocals and as always, damn good guitar playing. I should have stayed for MonkeyPiss or whatever, but I messed up. I went to the Brickyard and caught the Rebel Spell, where as usual they were tight but I couldn't hear the guitar player, while the bass was big and booming. The Excessives were cool.. its just good seeing people on stage and off having a good time. Donut didn't blow me away like he has in the past, but nevertheless it was a good set. I keep hoping rumors of Death Sentence happening again will be true (Dan Scum was at both shows showing off the six pack he'd shaved into his belly hair!). Anyway, people in the crowd seemed pretty into it all. DOA didn't really do it for me.. I saw them last year and I liked them better than I had in ages, but last night seemed a little flat.. maybe cuz it seemed half full in there. Whatever, I'm pretty sure a decent night was had by all at the Brickyard. But when I got back to the Asbalt I could see the difference - it was packed, and the Dayglos were the best I'd seen them in years. Not to say that they're not always great, they just don't always wow me.. but they were killer last night, and that guitarplayer - woah! Everyone seemed really stoked, and I guess for some people, that show being so successful was sweet revenge. - Sat, 16 Oct 2004 6:26pm
jay brown User Info... | Well now, what a night... a ton of Vic people showed up so that was rad and so many of my old friends from Van were there so I was having a blast. Mr.Plow played a great set, had a friend of his from tacoma, get up and sing a few songs and the guy was great. Sipyeknom played an amazing set, they had the crowd going off it was totally cool. Their new c.d. is finally done and it is fucking awesome I totally think everyone should go buy it. well by this time of the night the room was totally packed and the crowd was going off. Then the dayglos took the stage, and let me tell you it was mayhem. They played a killer set, with the ocassional D.O.A. comment thrown in for good measure. Murray was on fire, he wired every solo, and the crowd loved him for it, pretty sweet. Good times had by one and all and I even made it home in one piece. - Sat, 16 Oct 2004 9:15pm
SentencedtoBurn User Info... | The Dayglos played way too much new stuff. I left half way through their set. All the old shit was awesome though. I can see how they are probably sick of playing the same old songs for 20 years, but they are the ones that rule for me. Fuck, I was standing directly in front of the Cretin for the show, and the pit kept knocking me right into his balls. Some chicks standing next to me kept punching me because I kept getting pushed into them (by a huge pit that obviously one person cannot control). I nicely explained to them that there was nothing I could do about 50 people bashing into me, and in turn, me bashing into them. I suggested that they move if they were unhappy with the situation. They responded by throwing punches, kicks and elbows in my general direction. Because of their actions I felt that it was best that I go home, put on some emo and cry myself to sleep. - Sun, 17 Oct 2004 1:57pm
jay brown User Info... | ah your on crack the new album is awesome. Why not just go see the Eagles if ya wanna see people play twenty year old songs? This was after all the tour to support the new album after all. I think this is the best album they have put out since Feed Us A Fetus. Ya i was the guy sitting on the seat with the jean vest with all the patches right beside all Murray on the stage there. Ya the girlies were being a bit rowdy... - Sun, 17 Oct 2004 3:48pm
Pooetry User Info... | I only caught the Dayglos that night as I caught Tom Waits earlier in the evening (!a highlight of my life!). I didn't really know what was going on with the Dayglos vs. DOA thing, but as soon as I walked in, I felt a fucked up tension in the place. The Dayglos were great, great, great. - Sun, 17 Oct 2004 11:35pm
cuntballs User Info... | On the Cobalt message board awhile ago there was a message from some dude who said..."The new Dayglos record fucking sucks...Some of there old shit was rad, like 'Two Dogs Fucking'....Now it's just 4 guys sucking"...That made me laugh for like a month...I disagree though, the new album kills. The show @ Yucky bar on Friday should be funfunfun. - Mon, 18 Oct 2004 4:53pm
bride_of_el_duce User Info... | It sounds like I missed out! I was going to catch the Excessives and then fly over to the Asbalt for the Dayglos but I never made it out of the Brickyard. D.O.A just didn't have any *oomph* and the sound was absolute garbage. I just don't get the impression that Shithead has much enthusiasm these days. I wish the Brickyard would invest some money into improving their sound system or hire a new sound guy. So many good shows butchered by the Dickyard. - Wed, 20 Oct 2004 10:39am
