Message Board > Show Reviews > Ten Miles Wide, Bronze, Cambodia and The Gaza Stripper Project Fri the 10th in Van |
Grain fed User Info... | Went over to Van with the Bronze boys for this one. It was at the 640 lounge or the 340 lounge or somethin. It's the place a couple of doors down from the Cambie anyway. A really cool venue though it's kinda like a cross between Lucky and Evolution but a little bigger. The Gaza (Giza?) Stripper Project were tight but Seemed a little too radio bandish for me. Smokin' drummer though. Cambodia kicked ass. Their set was only 25-30 mins but it was all one progressive song with huge dynamics. Bronze played a wicked set. They sounded really muddy in that room which suited me just fine. And Ten Miles Wide, well I can't say enough. They are deffinetly one of my fave bands at this point. It awesome to see such a supportive scene over there. The crowds were right up front for the last three bands and everyone was into the tunes. If I wasn't so sloppy drunk at the end of the night I might be abgle to tell you more. I remember going to some house after, vaugely, and then I remember waking up at 9am when we got off the ferry. - Mon, 13 Sep 2004 3:44pm
Sati User Info... | Aaaaaaawwww, yeeeah! I'm glad someone started this review! The show was at Pub 340, off Cambie & Hastings. I only caught the last half of TMW.. but even from that I could tell that that show was charmed! I could tell from the state of the mosh.. good, solid, heavy, where everyone was getting what it was about - no bullshit.. everyone was in a great mood, the band was tight and relaxed, the sound was awesome, and the bar staff was happy cuz the place had packed. I agree with what you said about TMW, I've managed to miss them a ton of times this year and now I'm kicking myself. Everytime I see that guitarist Shane (he is/was in HRP & Punchdrunk), I always think "Its beginning to look a lot like Texas". Something about him reminds me of friends back there.. there's a low, heavy, chilled out, warmth that comes out in everything he does. Bina's a killer drummer, tons of balls in her playing, and Mike Goatsblood too, of course, in his bass style. I'm such a sucker for that big, dark, bassy.. doomy.. stoner.. southern rock thing. If anyone else has been putting off seeing them, I'd recommend that you get on it. Sorry I missed the other bands, but I had other show commitments that night. Nice that you describe us as having a supportive scene, I think that band inspires it! - Mon, 13 Sep 2004 4:24pm
