That was one rollocking show! I could feel the love last night as all the bands dolled out their very best servings of rock n' roll luvin. It's good to see quite a few people found their way to the venue to enjoy the disco ball and balloons hanging from the ceiling. I doubt a Polish community hall has ever seen the likes of Black Tie Social, Smallhorse, Ghost of Science, and Maurice doing what they do best: blowing people's minds with thei high voltage rock. Way to melt the faces guys!

Yea this show was pretty happening, to bad the attendance wasn't just a tad higher, but the hall is big, so it's deceiving to as how many ppl are actually there. Black Tie was wicked. Maurice was lacking it's lead guitar that was with them last time they played busting out these increadible solos. They were still amazing.

But the stand-out for me was Ghosts of Science. Apparently they used to be Johnny ACtion Figure, or so i've heard, but this was the first time i had seen them and they were absolutely amazing. Great vocals and catchy riffs, i suggest seeing this band to anyone who hasn't yet before.

Good job aiden putting the whole shindig together. - Sun, 20 Jun 2004 11:56am

I was completely blown away by all the bands last night.

Pushing Up Daisies were incredible. Jimmy has some amazing guitaring skills. I had no idea he was so good. During that last song i was just in awe. You guys have such great stage presence and are most definitly entertaining. You make the girls swoon, Jack.

Black Tie Social was pretty impressive as well. I've only ever seen them perform once before and they have probably the best balance of vocals & guitars that I heard last night. Impressive vocals.

I missed Smallhorse unfortunatly. But I heard that they were incredible.

Ghost of Science. What can I say? Great vocals and great guitar riffs. I listened to some of their songs on their website and now feel really inspired to go pick up their album.

Maurice was like a giant orgasm of sound. People finally started dancing. A lot. They had everything. Piano, drums, vocals, bass, HARMONICA. You could tell that they were feeling the music.

I thought that last weekends show took the cake, but this was even better. The lack of people created a more intimate atmosphere. Best all ages show I've ever been to. - Sun, 20 Jun 2004 1:16pm

Well, i left partway through for reasons beyond my control :(, but i was more then impressed by what i saw.

First the daisies played, and they were as good as ever. I've heard them a bunch so I expect good stuff from them, oc :). Nice to hear some new stuff, such as Green Carpet. The Talking Heads cover was cool too, though i'd rather have seen jimmy and tanner bust out some funk while dave fixed his string.

Next band was Black tie social, and

they blew my mind. I spent the rest of the evening picking up little bits of gray matter off the floor. Holy shucking fit. Nothing more to say.

Smallhorse was as sweet as ever, viva Colin!
and then i left, so yeah. - Sun, 20 Jun 2004 2:25pm

a huge thank you to all the music fans for coming out yesterday.
you guys were a fantastic crowd and i'm glad you enjoyed yourselves.
i sure know that i did.
another huge thank you to all the bands:
pushing up daisies, smallhorse, ghost of science, maurice... i had you all at the show because i love your music. period.

i'm still excited from the performances. i've never been to an all ages show with that much talent on a stage (and got to share a stage to boot!)
..so i hope to see everyone there next time.

until then. - Sun, 20 Jun 2004 3:27pm

Sweet, Aidan... I can't wait to put those up on our site. (:

I was totally floored by all the talent on stage last night. I haden't seen any of the other bands before, and no one disappointed me in the least. Too bad more people weren't there to enjoy it.

Can't wait for the next one!

I found the crazy, crazy dancing dudes thoroughly entertaining, especially when one called "yeah the bass!" during a break. Oh yeah, and I also realized Maurice is one of the best bands in Victoria. Kudos to the organizers. - Sun, 20 Jun 2004 5:31pm

That was an awesome show. The turnout seemed pretty good, but yeah, as was already mentioned, the hall was big so it didn't look like there were that many people. Nice venue, by the way. Great sound.

Pushing Up Daisies - They played really well, as usual. Shotgun Love is such a kickass song. I'm looking forward to a CD from these guys.

Black Tie Social - Good to hear a longer set from them. Some really tight guitar solos and vocals were great. I like the saxophone in there, too.

Smallhorse - I was outside for most of their set, and even after seeing them a few times, have had a hard time getting into their music. It's all played really well and professionally, I guess it's just not my thing. The last song was awesome, though.

Ghost Of Science - Amazing. The instrumentals are so good, and the vocals were excellent, too. Interesting lyrics and altogether a very professional band. I hope they'll play another all ager in the future.

Maurice - They keep getting better each time I see them. The songs with Josh Doherty on harmonica were great, they even fit it into their cover of Norwegian Wood. They really connected with the crowd and had a very intense stage presence. Hopefully we'll see these guys play another all ager soon.

Great show, Aidan.

& thanks to Dan the soundman for lending me your cellphone. That dude who was on the pay phone spent more than an hour on it and wasn't even at the show. Ergh. - Sun, 20 Jun 2004 9:19pm

This show definately was one for the history books, or at least that section of my wall devoted to show posters... All the bands played really well, especially Black Tie Social and Smallhorse. It was my first time seeing Ghost of Science and Maurice and I thought that they both did an awesome job, they sounded really professional. Over all a great show, and a pleasure to open!

Not to sound like a wierd pop-punk trivia nerd, but the drummer for Ghost of Science kind of looks like Noodles from Offspring? Coincidence? Probably... - Mon, 21 Jun 2004 8:55pm

Wow. What an amazing show. Definitely one of my favourites so far this year. Excellent bands, cool venue, and a great atmosphere combined to make a most impressive night of rock and roll goodness.

Pushing Up Daisies are always awesome, but they were especially fun this time around because they covered "School's Out For Summer". Very appropriate indeed.

It was nice to see Black Tie Social play a bit of a longer set this time - it allowed them the opportunity to flesh out their sound a little more. Their music swings between a multitude of styles (pop, rock, and even a bit of funk here and there) but they never let their sound lose its focus. The harmonies were wonderful. By the time their set was finished I was left feeling nothing but awe and amazement.

Though there was a lot of talent on stage that night, Smallhorse was probably my favourite of the lot. It was my first time seeing them, and needless to say I was very impressed. This is unabashed rock at its best, in my opinion. They seemed to end their set a little abruptly, but it didn't detract from the awesomeness of their music.

Considering this was Ghost of Science's first all ages show, they seemed to have won over quite a few fans. Deservedly so, as they had a cool sound and were confident and easygoing throughout the duration of their set. I was pleasantly surprised and I think a lot of other folks were too.

Maurice - wow. One of the few bands that I've seen actually live up to the hype surrounding them; they blew my mind. Excellent keyboards and overall solid musicianship. The harmonica from Josh was a neat addition. Everybody go see this band. Now.

Thumbs up to Aidan and everyone else who put this show together - you are all awesome! - Tue, 22 Jun 2004 12:33pm

Yeah thanks to everyone for comming. I had so much fun on stage that night. smallhorse will be back in month at lucky doing the DEATH TO ROCKTORIA II. Dan Willes wont be with the band any longer, he will be missed but things change. Fear not though as Ryan from The Poppies will be his temporary replacement.

Love

Here's my condensed reviewed review. Let's hope the webserver can stay focussed and not get bored...

Pushing Up Daisies - I was really impressed by these guys, especially considering their age. Drummer really looked like he was 'in the zone'. Singer kinda reminds me of Robert Plant...? Way to represent MD boys.

Black Tie Social - was really looking forward to seeing them and they did not fail to impress. The array of genres, the various textures of sounds and dynamics - much of which can be attributed to the keys/synth, sax, and full backing vocals - blew me away. Rarely do you see these things from such young musicians. Can't wait for some recordings guys.

Smallhorse - finally caught a full set! These guys really look like they're having fun up there. It's nice to see a band who can rock out, yet still crack a smile, and laugh about having no sound in the monitors instead of being assholes about it. Each member seemed to be groovin in their own little world, all while rocking out as a foursome. I dig the drummer's style, and I'm always impressed with Colin's guitar skills.

Ghost of Science - really disappointed that I couldn't stick around for them (it was beyond my control. Let's just say it involved a mechanical bull). Seeing Ted's guitar/synth rig really made me envious though! Can't wait to see a show for the first time.

Maurice - saw them once last year when they were called Carpet and they blew me out of my seat that time, and I assume they would have done the same this time, but alas I could not stay. I hear your lead guitarist wasn't there again? Where do I sign up to fill in?!

Great show, Aidan, and all the rest who put this together and came out to support some of the best bands in Victoria, regardless of age. Can't wait to see all the bands again at some point. - Wed, 23 Jun 2004 9:02am
