Amazing.

Angelgrinder ripped shit up. Kind of Metalcore-ish, Lamb of God type thing going on, not my thing but tight as fuck. Really good drummer, nice footwork. Got the crowd going right away.

This was Gross Misconduct's first show in over a year, I believe, and their first since moving to the mainland. Let's say they left an impression. I didn't get to see too much of their set as I was busy getting ready for mine, but what I did catch sounded, well, different. Straight-up Death Metal of the highest order. No need for Grind here, these guys have the hooks down. It's on, Vancouver.

Tard. Well, I can't offer a review there, but let me just say that the audience participation damn near brought a tear to my eye. Until you've seen a man willingly get into a wheelchair onstage only to be launched off face first into the ground or seen someone get clothlined out of one, you haven't lived. And the chantings of our name from the audience were nice. There will be no encore.

Yeah that was some fun shit. Next time i'm gonna kick the sound guy in the balls. I was standing outside loading the van during the first bit of Tard's set when this girl i know walks out of the bar sayin something like 'that's not funny, it's disgusting...i can't beleive this' Hahahaha
Perfect. Tard rules every time. - Sun, 30 May 2004 9:07am

Oh - a Brickyard gig. For a sec there I thought I missed out on Tard (playing here - Vic.) Hey Tard! When are you coming here? I wanna see people in wheelchairs get pushed off the stage and get gratuitously clotheslined. The satisfaction, the satisfaction. - Sun, 30 May 2004 10:13am

I think it was the 2nd time I've seen Angel Grinder, and I really got into the 1st half of the set. The 2nd half I missed cuz I got stressed about work shit, and was pacing the bar. Anyway, particularly impressed with the singer who out of frustration or just unstoppable energy headed out and started his own pit, kept it going in a big way too. We've got some killer bands in this city, so the bar's been raised pretty high, but I think this band's holding their own for the type of stuff they're doing. And totally energy wise.

GrossMis had a really distinctive thing, a dark, dirgy(?), oppressive mood (compared to the rest) going through a couple of songs which I'd like to think is really key to being their signature sound, cuz it seemed to stand apart from the rest of their set for me. Gotta see them again to be honest, to really figure out what they're about. I was intrigued and others seemed pretty taken by them.

If you get into well played grind, don't disregard Tard just cuz of stupid stage antics. They'll make you spit up laughing, but fuck, they're tight and for the second time that I've made efforts to really pay attention to them for the music.. blown away. Never underestimate self confessed tards - there's an incredible freedom that comes with the title.. it allows for tons to flow. I think thats what the whole concept's about.

Of course, I've been laughing my ass off all wknd: [insert Jesse's hi-pitched Tard voice] talking about their Michael Jackson song - "I'd put my little cock & balls on a platter for that man!" - Mon, 31 May 2004 3:48pm

Well, I had a good time aside from not being able to hear my drums whatsoever while we played. Angelgrinder was pretty awesome, their drummer killed and their frontman dude had tonnes of energy and could scream like a motherfucker. Our set went pretty well I think, but like I said I couldnt hear my drums at all, so I don't know what to think about my performance personally. Crowd seemed pretty stoked, that's cool, I hope the Vancouver metal scene will get into us. Would have liked to play more songs, but the new ones need work, hopefully we'll have two new ones ready for our next show. Tard, well..they headlined for a reason. All theatrics aside though, these guys are good, solid grind. Cool fucking dudes too. All in all, it was a pretty rad night. - Tue, 1 Jun 2004 5:10am

Thanks tips. When I use an earplug, I barely put it into the canal of my ear. I let them sit on the ousides of my ears to reduce high end from guitars, and my cymbals. The problem was a bad mix, not a bad ear. - Wed, 2 Jun 2004 5:22pm
