I must say, the brawlers ruled. then Pariah, they were pretty good but I'm not too into metal, then ML7. I Think they have a solid sound. then it was mr.plow, man he totally bitched out the sxe posi-crew. but his lyrics were plain genius. the hoosegow played a GREAT set. wild in the streets was an awesome cover. then it was a.w.t, they had the place moving, they made people bring the mosh. all In all a good show, for a good cause. It was heartwarming when zak and jay got flowers. all in all. It was fucking sweet. - Sat, 8 May 2004 6:55pm

The stage set up was a great idea and the sound was awesome. I got to see all the bands up to Mr. Plow and they fuckin' kicked ass. Self Inflicted opened up a a small crowd which quickly grew. Pariah took the stage and ripped shit up. The new vocalist fits. I take back what I said a few weeks ago. He has more chemistry with the band and he has great stage presence. I finally got to see Meatlocker again in so long and they never sounded better, though there was something about the drums that didn't make the experience 100%. Maybe 99.9 %. Sadly enough, once again I missed a nother great show from the hoosegow and awt fellas (stupid living all the way out here in bwood, boonyville). It will be the last for the hoosegow for quite some time won't it? Or whats going on?!

Congrats to the promoters. I suspect it raised alot of money and more awareness for the cause. - Sat, 8 May 2004 7:37pm

Great time, big thanks to Jay and Zak and everyone else who helped set it up.. The stage was killer!

All the bands played well, Self Inflicted crushed as usual, and Pariah with Luke are exactly where they need to be.. Hoosegow, way to whip the pit into a turbulent frenzy! literally, with wind and all. Missed most of AWT , had to go load our gear up..

Yeh, our drummer has only been in the band for about 4.5 months and his monitor started cutting out while he was playing so he was left in the dark for alot of our songs, guess he hasnt been in the fold quite long enough to play though those blind moments.. hopefully have it under control by next Fridays show :) - Sun, 9 May 2004 5:45am

Hey now! Yeah it was an awesome benefit show! I arrived after Self Inflicted played :(. ML7 was awesome, and yeah, the new drummer is pretty good (wish I saw them Friday night). Heh... Plow was hillarious, if you think he sucks then you can't take a joke, lighten up for christ sakes :) Periah was off the hook, I really like hearing these guys (methinks I've seen them before, though for the life of me I can't remember where). Hoosegow got the crowd moving, and well, AWT were awesome as usual (though I left halfway thru the set to go to the Shivs/DJ show at Steamers pub). I really like that stage, does the FCC own it? For those who showed up at the benefit, good on ya! - Sun, 9 May 2004 5:46am

I had a blast last night, and yup the show was great. S.I. are great and ya they do seem to get better with age. Pariah fucking rule, the singer definitely brings it all together. ML7 man oh man, DMD on drums definitely fills out that sound all right and ya as I found out later myself if the monitor cuts out on that stage the drummer is in fact flying totally blind. Mr.Plow always kicks ass, that tongue in cheek humour of his always makes me smile. The Hoosegow well I must say I thought we played pretty good and it was nice to see so much audience response for one of Tyler's last shows before he moves away from us. The two girlies that started making out on stage definitely kept me preoccupied for a minute there. A.W.T., well it wasnt one of our tighter sets but we had a blast up there and everyone else seemed to love it as well. Got to bust out a new addition to the set and had a great time. Thanks to everyone that helped make it happen yet again. The FCC already said we could have the show there again next year. Big props for the stage and sound system and the hall and Metropol for doing the posters downtown and for the new v.i. and the zone for putting it on the airwaves. Thanks to the FCC for the hall. Thanks Zak for doing it with me, I'd have to say we did a pretty good job this year. Thanks to Barbara from the cancer society once again this year, not often I get handed flowers. Thanks to everyone that showed up and for those of you that didnt theres always next year. - Sun, 9 May 2004 6:31am

I realized I left out a couple of important ones Thanx to Jody and Jerry for doing a great job on security, and a huge thanx to Sparky and the boys from Urge for the gift certificate give away, I thought that was pretty damn cool. - Sun, 9 May 2004 7:06am

I must say that was one of the best sounding shows we've had there in a long while. I think the stage really made a difference to both sound and ambience. FCC was happy to partner on such a great event, thanks for the opportunity. How much $$$ was raised towards the cause in the end? - Sun, 9 May 2004 7:09am

Thanks to everyone that helped to bing this thing together again. I had a blast and that was probably the best crowd The Hoosegow has ever played to. The jail outfits have been on the decline ever since Jay lost his. It's true that we aren't going to be playing for a while(come out next saturday!), but the Hoosegow isn't gone forever. Thanks to all the bands for ripping it up and big thanks to Nev for the sound and Laprider for the stage.

That was a super fun show.

Ty - I hope you're not too stiff from the crazy jumps you were doing onstage. You reminded me of a starfish flying through the air. You still got it, ole dawg. :D

To xSchmoex if you had a problemo with mr plow, why didn't you just say something to him when he was onstage? I'm sure he'd be happy to talk it out with you.

I bet the girl in the pink shirt is a hurtin' unit today. - Sun, 9 May 2004 8:49am

I really dug Self Inflicted, probably my favourite band of the night, also the hardcore dance squad made things extra entertaining :). Pariah was good, but I think I like Bo's vocals better (no offence to the new/old guy). Surprisingly enough this was the first time I've ever seen ML7 and they were very good . . . the drumming was great, a pleasure to have some blasts. I left after that, a pity I missed AWT cause I really like them. All in all not a half bad show.

Come out next week to to Brentwood's Metal Mayhem and catch Pariah again along with Peruke, Abuse of Power, and those borderline retards Mitochondrion!!! - Sun, 9 May 2004 9:11am

Had a great time at this one! I have never heard that echo chamber sound as good as it did last night. A tad loud, but that's what you get with a high ceiling like that. The stage monitors were lacking, but everyone managed to work around that.
Energetic crowd! All agers are always a blast as far as moshing and energy goes.
All the bands did a great job. Managed to catch a bit of everyone's set and I didn't hear anything that sucked at all. All very unique and entertaining groups. Makes me proud to be a part of Victoria's music family.
Congrats to Jay and Zak for pulling this off. It was a success! Looking forward to next year's already! - Sun, 9 May 2004 10:04am

I dunno, thanks to the punk newsgroup, I actually found both the Genetic Control 85 Tape Rip (Unreleased) and the First Impressions EP, yeah Urban Cowboy is an awesome tune! LOC covered it, and that rocked too! Apparently the band has written new material and is planning to release a new CD, if anyone can get those boys playing here, geez that would be awesome! - Sun, 9 May 2004 6:47pm

I too thought the show was great, except for "Mister Plow". If I wanted to watch some washed up greasy old chub play some shitty acoustic guitar while laughing at his own jokes I'd go down and hang out in front of the Open Door and see it for free. - Mon, 10 May 2004 1:48pm

Did everyone sing along for the Hoosegow Hoosegow song?

Don't you get tired play'n 2 consecutive sets all the time Mr. Man-whore-JB?

I fine evening. I am always amazed at the level of drumming in this city...the bar has been raised pretty high, and Lincoln you are a truly professional kinda guy. All the Bands rocked, everyone had fun, Mr. Plow made me laugh.
The thing that interested me the most being a crusty old guy was this new dance thing going on early in the night....very interesting, like a solitary urban dance off sort of vibe, only to hardcore. I need more info on this trend please, new tribalism at its perpetuating best.
Anyway great show...kudo's to Jay, Zac and all who helped out....special thanks to those who helped set up the stage and take it out, I do appreciate when people stick around...haha Tony Goluza helped I thought that was his typical style.

cheers - Tue, 11 May 2004 4:25pm

I thought that was pretty cool actually Tony and a few others showed up early and helped us set up and then stuck around and helped tear it all apart as well. Exactly the way shows are supposed to work everyone lending a hand and nobody being stupid it makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. - Tue, 11 May 2004 4:36pm

I can feel the man blushing now... better quit while I'm ahead.

I recorded pretty much the entire evening to my laptop. Some of it may be salvageable, some of it probably not. But, we'll see during some mastering what we end up with. Hopefully at least 1 or 2 songs from each band on a CD.
