Brian VIHC User Info... | Thnaks to everyone who came out last night, the crowd was the best I've ever had at a show I've put on. No one tried to sneak in, amazingly! I didn't get to see much of the bands while I was working the door but managed to get in enough of all of them to know that The Cloak is great (and will be better April 17) I still love TAN and AK (with a new lineup to boot) and Every New Day, while not particularly the style of hardcore I like, put on a good show and were really nice guys. Despite Dead In Hollywood's last second mishap at the border and inability to make it, everything went really well and I hope all my future shows work out so nicely! - Sat, 13 Mar 2004 4:28am
brad User Info... | first time for me at the james bay centre. not a bad little room....the sound tends to blend together but not bad with the plugs in. i arrived late..and only caught the Cloak's last few songs... but enough to want to play with these guys...they are going to be really good. Id never seen any of these bands before...(i live in a cave...what can i say.) Tough as nails were really good...very aggressive angry hardcore...i definately see why these guys have generated such a loyal following. Ak-47 for me was the definate hightlight...i have a few of there older songs on some compilations..but live..these guys blew me away...hardcore the way it is meant to be...the drummer had my jaw dropping so many times it hurt at the end of their set!! hands down..the BEST hardcore drummer in vic i have ever seen. definately check these guys out any chance you get...its a rare treat to see such a wonderfull band. the last band was good...as mentioned before...not totally my bag..but they played well...and rocked hard...these guys musta won the lottery to afford all the fancy gear they were playin....and while not breaking any new boundries...were really good at what they do. decent turnout...i will definately be hitting more shows in james bay...thanks to the organizers of this show...you put up a great lineup! cheers. - Sat, 13 Mar 2004 12:39pm
Rollerballs User Info... | I know that the space costs money to rent and the touring bands need to be paid, i respect that, but i would say that no violence makes a show more successful than no one sneaking in. But what do i know, i'm high on nuke. The Cloak (or was it Holy Mountain?) fucking kicked ass! They played a fucking awesome first set, i'm looking forward to the next one (in a big way). TAN- angry macho aggressive intensity, not my kind of hardcore, but good energy. Ak- i had never seen them before, and i must say they pretty much rule the victoria punk scene, again not my thing but awesome at what they do! Very enjoyable. And that last band- talented, had a few good parts but, i would rather listen to the Transplants or new Rancid. They made me want to strap off my rollerblades and go home. They put a lot into it (torn snare) and had good NRG too. The bad- two young "moshers" being idiots and a door guy being a prick to the purple haired girl. Now i'm heading to see the lil fernwood show to bum smokes. - Sat, 13 Mar 2004 3:43pm
eboner User Info... | awsome show and good turn out. woo - Sun, 14 Mar 2004 6:48am
Brian VIHC User Info... | I wouldn't have been a prick if she didn't try to just walk in the back door. I told her to pay and she said "I'm not paying for just one band". All she had to say was "oh, but there's only one band left, can I just come in for that?" and we would have let her in for free. I'm sorry but I'm tired of going easy on moochers who want to rip off touring bands. I gave her back her money anyways so who cares. - Sun, 14 Mar 2004 7:09am

Every New Day were cool , agian not my personal favorite style but i definatly enjoyed them i would even like to see them again . Its too bad that dead in hollywood couldn't make it but what can you do .. thanx to everyone who came out and thanx to Brian for putting it on !! - Sun, 14 Mar 2004 7:27pm
meat User Info... | well, i'm the "purple haird girl" and i thought you were being a jerk by giving me my money back. i wasnt trying to sneak in i just didnt want to pay $7 to see one band (i'm not rich). but i thought you talked to me like a cop and that was lame. i have no problem supporting touring bands, i just dont like it when dudes give me that "cool guy" attitude. next time try being a little nicer. - Mon, 15 Mar 2004 5:45am
thx3232 User Info... | keep your ears on the cloak! - Mon, 15 Mar 2004 7:36am
Akylore User Info... | I'm always a prick at the door, you have to be. I was being a bit of a prick to BrianVIHC when he just wanted to step in for a sec at our show to see what the sound was like in the big room...until it came to mind who he was so then I didn't care...but yeah, people always try to mooch, fucking pathetic shit, I have no remorse being a dick to them.... - Mon, 15 Mar 2004 11:54am
Rollerballs User Info... | "YOu can always tell the people who have never even attempted to put on a show before" Apparently not. - to date we've put on 4, admission is pretty much by donation. We don't need someone acting like a nightclub bouncer at the door, if someone can't pay we are not going to turn them away. By the last band no one is watching the cash jar, it gets put away. If this system didn't work, our first show would have been our last. - Tue, 16 Mar 2004 4:45am
ML7Mike User Info... | But Rollerballs, dont you put on shows in your house? Thats a bit different. No real overhead, unless of course you put on shows to pay the rent.. And if someone gets out of hand, fighting or drunk, the 'commitee' or whatever isnt going to step and and cancel all future shows (or Angelo yelling at you maybe :P ) . Not to mention, IF Im right in my ass-sumption, you guys arent bringing in too many bands who need to make at least $200 each just to break even on the ferry.. Not tryin to bust your balls dude, just makin a point that there are different levels of shows which need different rules. Excuse me if I have you confused with someone else. - Tue, 16 Mar 2004 6:30am
Often Bong Soong User Info... | Good Show! the cloak were fucking wykyd.. nice to see some metalcore leaning on the the epic pummelling side rather than.. breakdown.. mosh.. fence.. mosh.....TAN were solid.. good riffage.. good energy.. AK47 were fucking awsome.. i can't beleive i've never heard things about this band.. allround good energy.. fast angry hardcore.. the last band.. was good too.. not really my thing but nice to see out of town bands nonetheless. as far as the sub plot to this thread.. i know the purple haired girl and she is far from a moocher trying to get in free for a show.. like most of my friends.. she spends almost all of her disposabal income on going to shows and supporting local musicians.. if the doorman had of offered a reduced price for the fact that there is only one band left i am sure there would not have been a problem.. considering there was no real space contraint inside at that point.. how it came to head i don't know.. i agree with mike.. there is different rules for different types of shows.. we don't put on shows to pay rent, or make any money at all actually..and thus far we haven't even had stiff proposition from next door yelling at us.. we are however going to be bringing in a band from vancouver which we will need to cover cost for.. so mabye i will get out the blue coat.. haha, check the promotion thread in the next few days for two upcoming shows in the basement. - Tue, 16 Mar 2004 11:28am
Rollerballs User Info... | Dude, my balls................... They're filled with saline solution and ready to be photographed, but by no means broken. I get the different levels of shows, thats why we put on small shows. It's really up to the fans, if they want to see more D.I.Y. underground bands in a good venue (rather than shitty bars or uncomfortable community halls)then they will pay, if they don't care and don't pay the venue will stop doing shows. Most bands we get to play understand this and play for free so the out of town band($200) can get payed, and we don't have to dicks at the door. Imagine that. - Tue, 16 Mar 2004 2:48pm
ML7Mike User Info... | Thats cuz Angelo who lives next door to you used to put on some wild band party's himself.. Just dont ever let him sing if he comes over!! - Tue, 16 Mar 2004 3:12pm
Rollerballs User Info... | I haven't had the pleasure of hearing him yet, i hope to soon though. Hmmmmmm maybe i'll get to at the GOATSBLOOD show (april 10th), i cannot wait. - Tue, 16 Mar 2004 3:16pm
brad User Info... | hmm...this not paying the bands to play stinks...i've just done some quick calculations..and i think the burnside house co-op owes me at least $200-300 in back pay for my past (always steller) performances..!! p.s. come check out the new stage at the next show... - Tue, 16 Mar 2004 3:36pm
x Buddy x User Info... | Why do people have to bitch about show prices all the fucking time , you can't get everything for free, regardless of how much it costs to rent the hall or how much you have to pay the band is the promoters right to charge whatever the hell they want and if you don't like then don't goto the show. If they are a good promoter(which Brian definately is) they will make their show as cheap as they can , you can't go into a movie theater and say "oh i only wanna see the last 15 minutes of the movie can i get in cheaper ?" - Tue, 16 Mar 2004 6:34pm
Brian VIHC User Info... | We need to stop dragging this one through the mud. The girl was rude to me, I was rude to her. I already apologized, because it was just a stupid misunderstanding. I seem rude at shows because promoting shows turns you into a TOTAL STRESS CASE. I'm sure all the promoters around will agree with me, but this thread needs to be squashed unless it's something about the actual bands and what people thought of them... Anyways see y'all at the April 17 show...fun!!!! - Wed, 17 Mar 2004 2:41am
ML7Mike User Info... | well last time I tried to pay to get in for the last band at a JCC show, I was forced by the promoter to not pay. I just figured Id support the bands with the measly $5 cover. :D Angelo... They used to call him 'Whitney' as in Houston. But I think heavy metal scares him. - Wed, 17 Mar 2004 5:22am
Truth by trial User Info... | Keeeeee-ryst! xBuddyx wrote the stupidest thing i've read all week. Here comes the clue bus, last stop buddy, oh wait it ran out of gas before it got there. Back to the bands, the Cloak rule, i can't wait to hear more from them, infact i would like to invite them to play my friends basement (best all ages venue in town), the Burnside house. Same goes for AK47, good stuff. - Wed, 17 Mar 2004 7:16am
Mordock.the.Benzite User Info... | xbuddyx---Underground hardcore show vs corperate movie theater= worse analogy ever. I would elaborate as to why but I figure you would have to take your head out of your ass first to understand. - Wed, 17 Mar 2004 7:58am
ML7Mike User Info... | "I seem rude at shows because promoting shows turns you into a TOTAL STRESS CASE. " No shit. Absolutely. Ive had opportunities to bring a few bands to Victoria that Ive ultimately turned down, cuz I just wanna play guitar. Promoting is tough. - Thu, 18 Mar 2004 5:45am
inline_punk User Info... | Measly five bucks??? i could buy a hogy or a couple bags of cool ranch, or pay to get into a ml7 show and dive for the free cd and then never listen to it once. ps. xbuddyx yer right famous players and all ages show should have the same policies that way no one will get confused. - Fri, 19 Mar 2004 4:47am
coke_dealer User Info... | hey xbuddehx said it, you can't get everything for free, I mean look at everything else thats free in the world....................business rules!!!! - Fri, 19 Mar 2004 4:53am
ML7Mike User Info... | Even a mute beggar could round up $5. Geez, dont you young dudes sell drugs anymore? I had more money when I was 18 then I do now! - Fri, 19 Mar 2004 10:48am
