Ty Stranglehold User Info... | It was a stellar night for rock n roll down at Lucky Bar. The turnout was a little smaller than I expected, but it was far from empty in there. The Keg Killers kicked things off with a bang. I wasn't sure if it was going to feel right with Dustin on the wagon, but my worries were for naught... If anything, they lyrics were smoother(in sound mot content!) and the band was tight in general. You could tell that he wasn't too sure what to do with himself up there so he concemtrated on the songs and it paid off. Good work. Next up was The Girls from Seattle. I'd been hyped on the guys previously, so I knew it was going to be cool, but the band were flat out brilliant! I think that this is what would have made New Wave cool the first time around. Think The Cars with some Hot Hot Heat and a little Damned thrown in and you're on the right track. And talk about 80's throwback styles. The guitarist kind looked like Oates(of Hall &) and the bassist was a skinny Randy West... Bloody entertaining. Finally, to closr the night were Victoria gearhead juggernauts the Rod Iron Haulers. Rock soild, these guys have what it takes to keep a strong show going. My problem with reviewing them is that I'm usually too loaded by the time they play and I wind up throwing out the Humpers comparison(no really a bad thing). The reason being is that Frank's voice really reminds me of The Humpers, therefore in my inebriated state I equate Haulers with Humpers... Anyways, they were great and thanks to Lucky for another good show! - Sun, 7 Mar 2004 2:09pm

The One After Two User Info... | Didn't catch the first band but The Girls were an entertaining bunch. Glad you also noticed the Hot Hot Heat flavour, I thought I was seeing/hearing things. I think when you said 'Rock Solid" you summed up the Rod Iron Haulers... good times, but the singer sort of grates on me. A whole lot of cliches rolled up into one man, but I think thats what makes him so fun. Enjoyed the show and I will go see the Haulers again! - Mon, 8 Mar 2004 6:28pm
helen von trumpkin User Info... | The girls are entertaining I caught them awhile back at the Brickyard in Vancouver, also with the haulers and Spread Eagle. The keyboard player is what made me laugh the most though! - Mon, 5 Apr 2004 1:37pm
