I'm thinking all people on this site do is sit home and wank and yak about music but never go out and see it and support it. For instance - tonight - saturday at the Cambie Unstoppable Android and Broken Nose - wicked show - totally kicked ass and who was there? - Sat, 6 Mar 2004 11:27pm

That's a good way to get people to come to your bar that's way the fuck out in the middle of Esquampton: Hack them down.

I was at the Tard show. - Sun, 7 Mar 2004 1:23pm

Tard show was where I went.. didnt even know the bands at The Cambie were metal bands. Anyhow, Victoria can barely support one metal show a night much less two.. - Sun, 7 Mar 2004 5:08pm

I took in a movie with my wife. Can't go to every show. I have to agree with Pooetry with the tone in this post. Not a great way to bring people to the bar.

no doubt...the fact is..even when there is a "good" show at the cambie, there is the possibility of another half dozen decent shows in this town on the same night....i actually took in an all ager..so boo fuckin hoo...(it was jam packed by the way). i might add that while reading the cambie's post..was the first i'd heard of the bands playing that night...so i checked out the "shameless" section (as i often do to check out whos playing)..and the logans Self Inflicted show had 33 replies..and was in peoples faces...the cambie show...1 reply from thursday...if these bands want people to come to their shows at your bar...SOMEBODY has to let people know about it..you can't expect the people in this town to flock to your bar just because...even well advertised shows can flop...so after all that...i still don't know who played really...or a clue of what they sound like....... - Sun, 7 Mar 2004 9:17pm

the cambie isnt as far away as you think. cheapest cover, cheapest booze, biggest room. nothing wrong with the tone of that post. just a dissapointed at the turn out of really great shows lately, all over town. the a.w.t. cd release was an awsome show but another mediocre turnout. maybe everyone is just getting to old! haha. anyway, support good shows or they just wont happen, and that wouldnt be sweet!

Oh well, I talked with Broken Nose and they're coming back soon. I don't know if it'll be at the Cambie but no matter where it is make sure to check it out! I thought it was really cool to see that even though there weren't many people the band wasn't lacking energy. The singer spent most of the time out in the crowd and the band were jumping around like crazy. - Mon, 8 Mar 2004 10:53am

I was at Logan' checking out TARD and Self Inflicted. I agree with Brad you gotta plug your shows or no one knows. Like he said Self Inflicted is good at that when they have a show coming up they post it right away and I always see their posters around. Hoosegow and AWT are good for that as well. Do they have to do all the work themselves? Poster's on street corners put out by the bars especially the Cambie have 12 different shows listed on them so they are too hard to read and are not showcasing each band individually enough to be noticed. - Mon, 8 Mar 2004 3:06pm

I couldnt agree more one of the largest failings of bars is promotion. A lot of the clubs seem to think it's the bands jobs to promote, and while we do what we can we all have day jobs. Sure I put up a few hundred posters for every show I play, but if thats all that goes up, and many, many times that has been the case then the word does not get out there. While the bands do try to get people out they do have lives and cant be doing it at all times, while the bars on the other hand... it is your job. The forty hours a week we cant promote a club bar staff and promoters and management are getting paid to promote the clubs. It goes right down the scale. If nobody shows up, the bar makes no money, the bartenders make no money, the servers make no money, the back bar staff make no money, etc.etc. If the band has a guarantee they are the only ones making money. Sure it costs money to promote but how else do you make people know your club is the place to be? Word of mouth wont do it, there just arent enough friends of the bar staff to fill a joint seven days a week. As far as the bands go, how many friends are four or five people supposed to have exactly? Many times I have seen poor attendance blamed on the bands, but then I've gone to other clubs and seen the same bands play to a full house. Bottom line is promotion, end of story, and ya having everyone on one poster is a good idea if your just doing a weekly poster but you also need to put up big stuff for bands cause if people dont know they are playing they wont come. Not enough people come here to read the posts, and nobody stops downtown to read the fine print on a poster, it needs to be big and in your face. Anyways this isnt so much about the cambie in particular as it is about a ton of clubs out there, seems to be a common failing. - Fri, 12 Mar 2004 1:59pm
