Holy shit did it ever feel fucking great to be back at the Cambie again! I've always had such a good time there and its one place in town where booze has stayed cheap!
The Johnsons got the night going with a well played set of upbeat radio-styled punk. Reminiscent of Gob, NOFX etc. A solid band, who were good at what they were doing but not really my thing. In between The Johnsons and Self-Inflicted my friend and I discovered that in the year and a half since i'd last been to the Cambie they had got a new video game... one where you shott zombies and they blow up in front of you with chunks of flying skin, blood and they even vomit out of their wounds! how fucking sweet is that.
Thanks to Adria who kept us with loonies while we kicked some zombie ass... when Self-Inflicted started their set up we realized that they were the perfect band to be listening to as we shot the shit outta these zombies. they were straight-up hardfuckingcore, agressive, fast, and intense. Their cover of United Forces by S.O.D. absolutely ruled. These guys impressed me the first time I saw them at Soundgarden ages ago and they have got even better. I was once again impressed by these guys. I'm lookin forward to seeing them again sometime soon.
Alcoholic White Trash came out swingin! I haven't seen Roy that into it in ages. The crowd was having fun and it looked like the band was too! With free cd's, shirts and that beer soaked dance floor things got a bit hectic but most people were just having a good time. There was some sorta fight that broke out in the "pit" which resulted in a few guys getting tossed and bouncer involvement but it was in the middle of the set so i don't think too many people even took notice. One ting that I have learned from shows at the Cambie is that only a fool will mess with the bouncers there. I cant count how many times i've watched guys think they can take on one of them only to get his ass tossed out on the street. haha. anyways, AWT played virtually every song that they play and people still didnt get enough! What a great fucking set.
Thanks to the Cambie for deciding to make money off us again, to the bands that played and to the bartender with the curly hair for always being such a charmer.cheers - Sat, 28 Feb 2004 5:23am
