Chris User Info... | This is really more of some advise for Captains of Industry than a show review. Ok guys, you're a pretty good band. I liked what I heard. Your drummer does some really interesting stuff. But seriously, you guys need to be a bit more considerate to the other bands. You guys knew the music had to stop at 11 (little fernwood rules), and there was four bands that needed to be squeezed in between 8 and 11. First of all, you started at 8:30, when you should have been finished around then, and then you proceeded to play close to an hour long. Thanks. I bet all the other bands were glad to have to cut there sets extremely short. You guys took up half the night and I don't think anyone was even there to see you. That's just selfish. Also, not one member of your band stayed around for any of the other bands. That's rude. I will come check you guys out at another show because I liked your music, but just some advise: it might be hard to get shows if you keep pissing off other bands. - Wed, 11 Feb 2004 10:49am
Brian VIHC User Info... | Hey all, thanks for coming out last night, surprisingly good turnout for a Tuesday when the headliner has cancelled! With regard to the Captains, a lot of people did come specifically for them and I know that at least two of them stuck around for most of the night. Good work by all the bands and thanks especially to the Rampant for the use of the PA. My only gripe, as always, are the kids who come and expect to be able to get in without paying (I'm not talking about guest list people, I mean people who come and try to sneak in)...why would someone come to see a show they don't think is worth paying for? Anyways, it all went well, good to see people having fun, and hope to see you all at the March 12 show with Dead In Hollywood! - Wed, 11 Feb 2004 11:59am
Seanor User Info... | i dunno, i tried to get in this show for a buck, but the only reason that i only had that much was cause i had to spend the rest on bus fare just to get there. its not that i dont think the bands are worth the money, im just poor langford white trash and cant afford it..... its not like your losing money from me being there and enjoying myslef, lighten up a bit man..... - Wed, 11 Feb 2004 8:34pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | Bands need to get paid, being in a band is similar to a job, paying cover is what keeps our scene strong, and good ticket sales keeps the venues booking bands. I used to hate paying cover at places, too. I can't see how anyone can't skrape up a few dollars to see 3 or 4 bands, it's a good deal and shows respect ya know! SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL BANDS!!!! - Wed, 11 Feb 2004 9:31pm
Seanor User Info... | im cool with suporting local bands, i want just as much as anyone else to see more good all ages shows around town. MY only gripe is about the kids who cant scrape together 5 or 6 bucks to go to a show, or if they can, they end up spending it on booze instead.....just trying to have a good night, you know? i dont see why you cant just let those kids in to see a couple bands play. i know bands need to get payed, and i know its like a normal job, but once again, bands arent loosing money from kids getting in for free, there just getting more popularity cause kids are gonna start saying "hey, these guys are pretty cool, they let me in a show for free." its getting them more popularity, which all comes back to suporting the local scene .......you dig? - Wed, 11 Feb 2004 9:43pm
Ty Stranglehold User Info... | the bands don't lose money, the promoter does. You see, when someone puts on a show they agree to give the bands money. They also have to pay for the rental of the hall and making sure there is equipment such as a PA and mics. It may seem fine and good to let a few people in for free or a couple of bucks, but in the end the promoter will end up paying out of his/her own pocket if the take at the door is short. Sure, a couple of people might say "_______ was really cool, I got into their show for free. I'm a fan now, and I'll pay next time and bring a bunch of my friends." but the promoter who let you in for free is still putting the renal of the hall on his/her credit card because the take at the door was short. I'm not saying this happened here(it didn't), but it does happen. - Wed, 11 Feb 2004 10:19pm
mcecill User Info... | and how exactly are you going to accurately weed out the genuine people who are short on funds yet want to see the show from the cheap bastards who would undoubtedly take advantage of a promoter willing to give free admission to anyone who is convincingly poor enough? - Wed, 11 Feb 2004 11:34pm
Brian VIHC User Info... | Letting kids in for free doesn't tell people "this guy is cool, we should come to more shows", it tells them "this guy is a pushover, we should get into more shows for free". If people want to spend their money on booze they're welcome to do so after the show, but drunks at all ages shows, especially underage drunks, are more trouble than they're worth, because we don't have bouncers or security and I have to deal with their bullshit myself. - Wed, 11 Feb 2004 11:43pm
Livevic Scott User Info... | I'm gonna side with Ty and Brian here, club or all ages show if you can't pay the cover why did you show up? I agree the cover should go down (somewhat) over the period of the night (depending how much of a 'headliner' is actually present) howver on a show like this where cover is $5 how can you really bitch at all... honestly who can't find $5. Its $5 people thats the same amount as you payed for transit on the bus on the way to and from the show, noticing your from langford so you paid 2 zone fare, people in one zone territory paid $3.50... either way, thats NOTHING. At $5 for 4 bands no one is making money at that and you have the nerve to say "You should let me in for free because I'm gonna be a fan later on because you did that" and then you wonder why Rancid, Slayer, George Clinton, or whoever else you think is awsome dosen't come here. Hell why arn't the UK Subs comming here, they're doing a tour of Western Canada in April?? If you broke down exactly what a show costs to put really NO all ages show in town actually makes money. ALL of them either loose or break even, and barely at that. It's only through clever borrowing, "creative accounting", and stealing that an All ages "scene" even exists here. Ask anyone who's really put on a show. If you want facts and figures just lemme know and i'll lay em out what it costs paying normal price for venues, sound, promo etc. - Thu, 12 Feb 2004 2:25am
Jo Fancy User Info... | UK Subs aren't coming because there just aren't enough paying folk to cover a hefty tab in excess of two grand, or even enough to massage the ego of a band consisting of one old fuck backed by three paid fill ins. Brian is right though. 5 bucks is less than you paid for the Blink 182 patch you had to rip off your punk rock pants before you came. Fucking UK Subs... prats! - Thu, 12 Feb 2004 5:40pm
Livevic Scott User Info... | They were asking 2grand for the Subs .. my friend in Saskatoon said she got them down to $1000?? however I agree its a bit of a hefty sum. - Thu, 12 Feb 2004 6:39pm
Ty Stranglehold User Info... | Well worth it in my humble opinion. I'll be going to The Cobalt to see The Subs! - Thu, 12 Feb 2004 11:12pm
Old Goat User Info... | I will come check you guys out at another show because I liked your music, but just some advise: it might be hard to get shows if you keep pissing off other bands. - Wed, 11 Feb 10:49am Do you think that Pigment Veihicle,Hard to Say,The Blackmarket Fruits,Benchwarmer,Goat boy or Render Useless found it hard to get shows because they "pissed off" other bands?Who cares who you piss off?Grow some rockstar balls. - Fri, 13 Feb 2004 8:30am

bsxjen User Info... | "Brian is right though. 5 bucks is less than you paid for the Blink 182 patch you had to rip off your punk rock pants before you came." nice one joey! it's totally true. not to mention all the money spent on fishnets and pyramid spikes... that shit aint cheap - Sat, 14 Feb 2004 5:48am
Seanor User Info... | ya well, i guess your all right, as much as i might not like it, the local scene needs to make money for it to run i like scotts idea of lowering the price of the show as the night goes on, or maybe chargingless for the kids that just wanna see one band....but then it brings up the question of "what if those kids dont leave after seeing there one band?" ah well. - Sun, 15 Feb 2004 9:32am
aleris User Info... | I'm one of those people that's always broke, because when I'm not I have the uncontrollable urge to buy people beer all night. But I love music more than anything, so one thing I do, is do my best to support local bands. Very few times in my life have I ever been on a guest list, because I don't want to try and get in for free... but once or twice back in Nanaimo I was so hurtin that I honestly didn't have the couple bucks to get into the show. The fact that I usually went to so many of them (and paid) made me feel a bit better about getting in for free. But really, these bands make so many sacrifices in their own lives to do what they do, so don't bitch about contributing five bucks to the cause... if it's a good enough show that you're going to see it, then pay for it. If you don't think you should pay, stay home and burn some more cds. Sorry for bitching. - Sun, 15 Feb 2004 4:26pm
