Robnoxious User Info... | Wow, I can die a happy man. Scott Gorham has been 1 of my favorite guitarists for many years and finally got to see the man shred(tastefully)in person. Co-guitarist John Sykes is no slouch either, although the big downer of their set was some kind of short in his vocal mike that kept crapping out. Whether it was because D.P. were headliners or what, I expected more from a band of this stature. Also they only played for about 35-40 minutes. Saving grace playing Chinatown and drummer Michael Lee from The Cult and Plant & Page Unledded. Deep Purple - Ian Gillan thinks he's Hugh Hefner in his cotton pajamas. Voice in fine form, although we could see him consult a lyrics book. Steve Morse - holy f*ck can the man play. His Lost Contact solo was simply amazing. Ian Paice - Drummer par excellent. He makes it look so easy. Roger Glover - looks like John McVie (bass for Fleetwood Mac)played adequitly and held it together on the bottom. (Bassist's note 4 SWR Henry the 8 cabs) Don Airey - new keyboards from Rainbow and Ozzy replacing Jon Lord. The mad scientist of the keyboards. He made the Canadian anthem rock. In a league with Jon Lord and Keith Emerson as the best on the planet. Set about 1 and 1/2 hours. Played Machine Head in it's entirety. Wicked. - Mon, 9 Feb 2004 6:22pm
H User Info... | I'm sorry, but even as much as I love thin lizzy, their performance was weak. It was like seeing Spinal Tap in the flesh. And what was with that ballad that seemed to go on for like fifteen minutes? I swear they stopped no less than four times and started up again with yet another bullshit guitar solo.. good musicians though Deep Purple were insane! Ian Paice is officially my favourite drummer. Glover held down the bottom but didn't really catch my attention. I was scared Steve Morse was gonna ruin the experience with a wank-fest, but he executed his rippin-ness with a lot of taste and I agree the guy is fucking nuts. Mr Gillian is getting up there and didn't hit some notes on Highway Star, but hey, the dude still has it. The new keyboardist was also pretty wicked despite his cheesy solo (c'mon, how many times has the simpsons theme been done?). Lazy was my favourite song they played and fuck, the whole performance (of dp) just blew me away. - Tue, 10 Feb 2004 9:04am
ML7Mike User Info... | DId they play Sweet Child In Time? When we saw DP a few years a ago a buddy and I had a bet going as to whether Gillan could still hit those notes, but they didnt play it. - Tue, 10 Feb 2004 9:52am
Robnoxious User Info... | No they didn't. I have a studio album of Gillan's called Child in Time from a couple years ago and he does a lounge version of the tune. Can't do it like the original anymore. - Tue, 10 Feb 2004 12:21pm
