This was a good show to be at for anyone that enjoys live shows!
Mouth Full of Bee's,... I wasn't expecting a bluesy rock sound. With that name i would have guessed more of a metal sound but they were a very solid act and a nice surprise. Faces of Black, more than a nice surprise... The muddiest sound I've heard in a long time, only mud that's tight like dirt!? And Jell...... They came over from Van and I thought they would have fit the middle slot nicely. - Sun, 8 Feb 2004 4:01am

Missed Mouth Full Of Bees. Nice Homer reference though.
Faces Of Black have become much heavier than when I last saw them. Their songs are chock full of groove and I was pleasantly surprised to hear double bass tastefully peppered throughout. Overall, a band to keep an eye on, as with more live shows they will create a buzz!
Jell. Um. Well.
Mr. Goblinface said it best when he was heard to remark, "This sounds like the music from a towel commercial...unmemorable and no emotion." The rythym guitarist looked bored. The vocalist was trying to vary his vocals but they were remaining the same throughout the show. When he did manage to go up an octave he wavered wildly. He lacked emotion and that's what really did it in for me. The music was ok, but I can't for the life of me recall one single riff they played.
Homogenizing Alice In Chains songs should be against the law.
Nevertheless, $3 is nothing to complain about. F.O.B. saved the night from what I saw.

A friend of mine on the mainland got to catch the Faces of Black/Bronze show in Vancouver a while back (at my urging) and hasn't stopped thanking me since. With good reason.

Faces of Black ruled the evening. Christine is a great bass player with a whole lotta groove. And she sings too! Just like Geddy Lee (but she sounds MUCH better!). Faces of Black are one of my favourite bands in Victoria, definitely.

I especially liked how one of Jell's guitarists sat down at a table during some songs and had a pint or two. Now that's rock and roll!

I think the Cambie should pull that bull out of the corner in between sets. Just a thought. - Wed, 11 Feb 2004 10:35am
