Cheeky User Info... | Hoooooooly fuck man! Okay, so we nearly got to top off last year with our number in turnout. We had over 300 people at the show to witness The Fuzz, Second Last, Mitochondrion (organsplatter), GFY and Abuse of Power. The Fuzz blew me away with their reggae/metal/ska sound with only being together for a few months (kinda like d face last year, but not metal). Next up was Second Last which put on a great show, (what was up with the tomato??). When Mitochondrion came on the moshing started and our first injury of the night happened when some guys face got punched in. They put on a great show and Jesse's drumming was amazing. GFY with their interesting name, got the crowd going and their sound was tight. Loved to have them come play another show. Then Abuse of Power came on. I think I souly did this show because of Abuse of Power. When they came on stage you fucking knew you would be blown away. With the skull on the drummers drum kit, Abuse Of Power gave the audience exactly what they came for. Tight sound, great vocals, killer solos and a great metal experience. The crowd went fucking nuts and had some killer moshes and not to mention that little fight in their first song. Abuse Of Power's lead singer Rob had a outfit on that all the ladies (and some of the gentlemen) wondered what was underneath it. All in All, Abuse of Power came out the winner and pleased the crowd with an encore. It was a great night and I love doing these shows. Can't wait for Metal Mayhem 3 in the next couple of months. - Sun, 8 Feb 2004 1:25am
broccoli User Info... | Okay... so I missed the fuzz and second last chance, But actingensign/organsplatter/mitochondrion were nice and raw. I really enjoyed their vocal stylings and they played that turbonegro cover in an even more interesting manner than satyricon does (I think anyway...). Still Loose, but I think these kids have potential. If nothing else, GFY was amusing for covering the eye of the tiger. melodic vocal Pop-punk kids.... maybe pretty good if you like that sort of thing. and granted: abuse of power rocked anus. usualy I cant stand prolonged echo-ee vocal effects, but these guys realy pulled it off. awsome stage presence. However, in fairness to the other frigg'n bands: they were the only band not composed of minors, and perhaps not in the same league as the kid-bands... which reminds me: all you crusty old punks missed out by not coming down to the show: it was predominantly (~90%)children... easy pickings if you enjoy statutory rape (which, for the record, I am not a practitioner of) infact I think me, abuse of power, and the twins were the only friggin adults there... All and all, entertaining show. Always a good turn out in brentwood on-a-counta there is nothing else for the kids to do there. all right, too much already... - Sun, 8 Feb 2004 2:10am
Robnoxious User Info... | Actually Rob plays drums and Dusty Lee Evans sings and wears the funky outfits for Abuse Of Power. Thanks to Elizabeth and Smilin Dog sound for for a blast of a time. - Sun, 8 Feb 2004 4:31am
Grain fed User Info... | Wow... Liz I'm speechless, I haven't heard anyone speak of AOP that way since RR left the band but hey Langford's changing I swear. I give you lot's of credit for trying. Drop me a line and we can talk about it over coffee (sorry no EMOticons) - Sun, 8 Feb 2004 4:43am
Cheeky User Info... | Hey broc, There were tons of adults there and doesn't "all ages" mean "all ages". Fuck, we try and do these things so everyone can enjoy them and then you come struting along complaining. Abuse of Power played cause people wanted them to play, We had the same thing with gallows last year so fuck you. I think the talent of those bands is amazing and to be honest, Mito and GFY were very close to winning. Mito was just a few points away. Then what? Would you complain about them being a death metal band and they shouldn't win because of it? It just doesn't stop with the complaining. I'm spewing out this little rant becuase last night I got "why did you have that band play" or "this bands sucks, can i have my dollar back?" because we had such a diverse line up of bands. The show went great. The bands did amazing. End of story. And Grain Fed who are you? - Sun, 8 Feb 2004 9:27am
Jo User Info... | Elizabeth, ignore annmarie's comments and everyone elses'... you won't be able to please everyone; besides, she's going to complain until the day she dies (no offense dearie, not meant as a insult). first of all, Abuse of Power IS playing again in Brentwood. Second, I still want to know what he was wearing underneath that metallic jumpsuit...(me and a few other girls were pretty close to to ripping that thing off..j/k) Elizabeth dear, you put on yet another fucking awesome gig (as usual). Unfortunately, second last had to bring their incredibly stupid twinkies (yeah, one of the first things you are taught after you learn to walk is: "LOOK BOTH WAYS BEFORE YOU CROSS THE FRIGGIN' STREET!".. as much as twinkies suck, I really didn't want to see any twinkie-mashing...lol, actually, that WOULD have been entertaining) The Fuzz: young & talented; good job guys. Second Last: missed your set (purposely) all together. Organ Splatter: I pat you guys on the back for doing what you are doing; young, talented and obviously loving the death metal: very nice; looking forward to Mitochondrion at the FEB.28 METAL SHOW AT JAMES BAY COMMUNITY CENTER!! (w/ Pariah [my boy's band], Allfather, & Seasons of Sorrow). GFY: I got in trouble (a few times) telling people this band name... anyways, you guys know your shizznit Abuse of Power: there is no words to describe their set... let's just stick with "wow". You guys must have felt like fucking rock stars (ya deserved it!). I loved the solos and the whole "80's metal" vibe; you guys fucking rock... question: that hot chick (the one w/ the short black shirt), does she belong to any one of you? I expect to see you guys at METAL MAYHEM III... (Elizabeth, please do your duty and make sure they're going to be there) Ah, another show... another wound... another hangover. I love you Elizabeth, for putting on such a ripping show. (how about coffee next week sometime?) - Sun, 8 Feb 2004 10:08am
Nik Olaz User Info... | Yeah it was a good show The Fuzz were pretty talented. I wasn't there, but i heard they did a Motorhead cover. Thats good. Second Last was ok. Not really my cup of tea, but i applaud their effort. Our set was just funny. I liked how we were the only brutal band at this show. I think we might have scared some of them highschoolers off. The night before we played to the complete opposite of that crowd and both nights were pretty good. Unfortunately i was very hungry and i went to the pizza place so i missed GFY's set. But i heard good things about them. And Abuse of Power were pretty good. They had a nice stage set-up. I'm not really into the whole "glam" rock thing, but it was pretty cool. - Sun, 8 Feb 2004 11:59am
H User Info... | To be honest, I only came to this show to see Abuse of Powder. I purposely missed Second Last cause I'd have more fun sticking my thumb up my ass than listening to them. Missed the fuzz but heard that they were pretty good. Props to Mitochondrion/Splatter for doing what I love best. G.Y.I. were tight as hell but not my style at all. And the powder was insane but that bass solo was pretty weak. C'mon man, we all know you can bust it. Now, Im off to see Deep Purple - Sun, 8 Feb 2004 12:02pm
Pooetry User Info... | Cheeky- Lighten the fuck up, mutton. The majority of the show-goers were under 18, and that wasn't hard to see. Because it's an ALL AGES show, and in Brentwood, no less. Looking around the gym at the young people, I felt pretty old and haggard myself. That's just a sad fact of life. If I'm not mistaken, this is the "SHOW REVIEW" section and people are allowed to have their own opinion on the show and the bands, regardless of whether or not it's different than yours. Eat a pile of poo if you believe otherwise. Anyways, I had a good time, despite the fact that I got pasta and cheese puke splattered on my shoes in the girlie washroom from a drunken show goer. I liked Organ Splatter / Mitochondrion a lot. I heard them the night before at the Burnside house. Although I really know jack shit about sound, I thought the set up of the hall didn't do them much justice... Kinda echoish. That is all. Party on, Wayne. - Sun, 8 Feb 2004 1:43pm
Monkey User Info... | Killer show, which Abuse of Power stole. The highlight of my night was Abuse of Power, they have an amazing sound and they really got the crowd going. I'd love to see you guys back here for Metal Mayhem III. Thank you to all the other bands who played, I particularly liked The Fuzz who did a good cover of the Offspring. This was a successful show, Thank you for all the people who came out to support the Brentwood Shows Last night was a blast, and amazingly, I can remember most of it! - Sun, 8 Feb 2004 2:02pm
josh User Info... | jesus fuck.......abuse of power killed it. pretty fucking tight security though, doors closed at 930 or whatever. organ splatter sounded good aswell. i missed second last.......... - Sun, 8 Feb 2004 2:09pm
Mutilashawn User Info... | Decent show. I think our set went well, glad that we came in second. Thanks to all of the other bands who played, even if they weren't my thing at all. Had to leave early so I missed half of Abuse of Power's set, but I didn't really mind. Thanks to the promoter of this show (Liz I think it is) and all of you Brentwood kids, you are crazy fucks. And a special thanks to the bloody dude who won the five bucks. You are one crazy bastards. - Sun, 8 Feb 2004 2:22pm
pissed right off User Info... | It was a good show all around, but when I went to my car after one of the bands, I noticed that some stupid, disrespctful M.F#cker had ripped the hood ornament off of my black '81 Monte Carlo. Kind of ruined the evening for me considering it's about $75 to replace- if I can find one. I know these things happen when one is around kids (I was a teenager once) but just let me ask you decent young folk out there to, in the future, punch in the face any punk kid who is messing with somebody's car. I know some of you saw him/her do it. The worst part is it probably ended up in the bushes somewhere after said punk 'sobered up'. No more all agers for me... - Sun, 8 Feb 2004 3:05pm
Broccoli User Info... | heh heh.. yeah, calm down Eliza-mutton: I was just foolin, not complaining. you put on a really good show. I was just giving my honest (although perhaps biased) opinion of the scene. It was good, I enjoyed myself, and expected a high kid ratio. You can't please everyone kid, thats why I try to anoy all (that is easy) Respect (ala Ali G) to all the bands what came down to brentwood to play - Sun, 8 Feb 2004 4:27pm
Cheeky User Info... | Meh, I am calm, just expressing my opinion like you did. And don't call me that. And who the fuck was it that puked all over the girls washroom? I tried to clean that fucker up and ended up adding to it! - Sun, 8 Feb 2004 4:47pm
Conner User Info... | "And a special thanks to the bloody dude who won the five bucks. You are one crazy bastards." thats me, *bows* Liz, your shows fucking rule, thank you so much ! - Sun, 8 Feb 2004 5:01pm
Miles User Info... | What a show. That was our (the fuzz) first gig and we had soo much fun thanks to you liz. Abuse of power was absolutely amazing. "The crowd went fucking nuts and had some killer moshes and not to mention that little fight in their first song." Yeah I won that fight. lol. All the bands did well but what the fuck was up with second last. They totally ripped off thousand foot krutch - when in doubt. He just changed the words. Oh well, in all it was an awesome show and we hope to appear in the next Battle of the Bands. - Sun, 8 Feb 2004 5:21pm
Broccoli User Info... | Oh, so you were the random asshole giving running shoulderchecks to small children and girls then randomly slugging several kids smaller than you (for no observable reason) and rolling around on the filthy floor pulling eachothers hair? big fucking man right here I apologize if this wasn't actually you: I actually never saw it (and your fucking lucky I didn't) but from all acounts: your a fucking dick. - Sun, 8 Feb 2004 7:32pm
Demon_MG User Info... | This is a thank-you from Organsplatter / Mitochondrion... thanks to all who turned out in support, local youth bands need more venues like this to play. Thanks again to Lizzy for organizing another show. We look forward to seeing all you mosh humgry on Feb 28th @ James Bay Communitee Centre. - Sun, 8 Feb 2004 8:10pm
jay brown User Info... | no fucking way Dusty Evans sings for abuse of power and I missed it............... fuck, I havent seen Dusty in years. - Sun, 8 Feb 2004 8:32pm
Velius User Info... | That show was alright, most of it was meh. Abuse of power was good, and as usual, Second Last was well-hurtin. Good show, well organized, but the prissy bands need to be eliminated. Good to see Jesse goin' nuts. But c'mon, there's a few too many 10-year-olds at the show. - Sun, 8 Feb 2004 9:17pm
Cheeky User Info... | I say again "ALL AGER". Go to a bar if you have a problem with it. ^_^ I would. - Mon, 9 Feb 2004 9:35am
hunterstweek User Info... | Dude, damn living in calgary. matt, miles, i heard the fuzz is sweet. keep on rippin'. -REad. - Mon, 9 Feb 2004 7:51pm
Rollerballs User Info... | Pissed right off, what the hell? In some circles YOU would get punched right in the face for complaining about your shitty "Monte fuckin Carlo". Did your car get trashed? No, are you a alpha male/red-neck? Yes. If you are willing you beat someone down for something as superficial as that, no needs you at all ages shows anyways. I do think that vandalism against working class property is stupid, but violence as the solution? Shit that has to be the lamest thing i've heard all day. What if you did catch them in the act and layed a solid fist across his face, and on his way down he caught his head on a curb at just the right angle to kill him (it has happened before in Victoria no less)? Would it be worth it? The "property over people/peace" mentality is exactly what is killing us. The all ages scene needs support, not violence. - Tue, 10 Feb 2004 9:15am
Nik Olaz User Info... | Testify! - Tue, 10 Feb 2004 12:04pm
pissed right off User Info... | Hey Rollerballs- I was just angry ok? I'm not a rich man and I've already spent a few years restoring my car which is not cheap. If you think that is petty and superficial maybe you've never owned a car that is close to your heart. Maybe you've never owned a car at all. I realize what's done is done. Once the hood ornament has been broken off, it can't be put back on. I guess my point is that there were a hundred kids standing around that maybe could have said something when they saw some punk screwing with somebody else's car. Even when I was younger, I never disrespected people's property like that. As for advocating violence, do any of us actually believe that it would come to that? I know nobody is going to punch the perp in the face on my behalf and it would do me no good to get violent either because of what I said above. I was just venting and want people to maybe think a little before they commit a senseless act of vandalism. - Tue, 10 Feb 2004 12:41pm
Fannypacks&footjobs User Info... | Thats better, and i know what you mean, i was at an all ages show this weekend where a car got stomped and no one did anything or got others to help stop the perp. Which sucks because the car owners (like you said) are discourged from coming back to the venues. From now on, lets all park a block or two away from the venues, just to be on the safe side. But all things considered, when i'm walking home drunk and i see an expensive car, i'm still going vandalize it. No mercy for the rich. - Tue, 10 Feb 2004 1:59pm
Pooetry User Info... | How can you be sure that it's a rich person's car? So what if they are rich? You sounds ridiculous. Ignoranus messages. Silliness. - Tue, 10 Feb 2004 2:54pm
jay brown User Info... | Bitching at him cause he was mad somebody fucked with his car......... you olviously dont own a car. I would kick the living shit out of anyone I saw doing that if it was my car and you know what fuck that p.c. crap you were spewing out. How about respecting other peoples property then ya wont get a boot to the teeth when you start fucking with my stuff. - Tue, 10 Feb 2004 5:17pm
Drive 'em if you have to User Info... | "How can you be sure that it's a rich person's car? So what if they are rich?" Now that sounds silly. Violence is still retarded. - Wed, 11 Feb 2004 12:19am
BOHDAN User Info... | fuck i can't belive i wasted five minutes reading this shit , if it was my car that fuck up would be laying face down in a ditch in langford. - Wed, 11 Feb 2004 2:07am
Pooetry User Info... | Well, Rollerballs, you are talking like a moron and a hippy. La dee da. - Wed, 11 Feb 2004 7:11am
METALNECK User Info... | Yeah, same. I see you intentionaly break something on my car, I am going to take it out on your face. - Wed, 11 Feb 2004 7:48am
ML7Mike User Info... | Once me and Tony caught some punk stealing my Cannibal Corpse Cd's out of my truck.. on Christmas Eve no less.. Tony beat him up pretty good I had to hold him back in the end.. Moral of the story? None really, dont piss off the drunk porkchop I guess. - Wed, 11 Feb 2004 10:28am
Akylore User Info... | Ah, what can you do though? It's just like the dumb fucks that complain about paying $5 for a wicked show...yeah, after all the cash that's spent on drugs and booze and then all of a sudden $5 for a show is an atrocity?!?! Fuck 'em, they can pay up. It takes effort to do a show, and the bands deserve it. So what if it's flooded with kids?! I'd rather have a shitload of kids going nuts for your band instead of a few half-ass drunkards that aren't even there for the bands, they're just there to pick up chicks... Anyways, condolonces to the dudes who had their shit wrecked, if I didn't have 2 midterms this week I would've made it to the show but I just couldn't, and congrads to all the bands. For those who were impressed with Organ Splatter (and I know I was on the Friday beforehand) then come out to catch Mitochondrion at the James Bay show (Feb 28th!) - Wed, 11 Feb 2004 11:21am
