I'm surprised that outta the hundreds at this show that no one has posted a review here yet.... Anyway, this show was the FIRST time I had even heard, let alone seen Buck 65, and I was totally blown away. Whadda show, whadda sound, whadda showman. Buck 'played' for over 2 hours with relentless energy. That he did it all himself was doubly impressive. His songs had great lyrics and killer rythyms and his delivery surprised me in its Tom Waits-esqueness. If you missed this show and were curious about what you missed, I'd say the best thing you could do for yourself is check him out next time he's in town, 'cause I'd be surprised if you were disappointed.... - Sun, 1 Feb 2004 8:20pm

This show was not for me.

I have heard and read a lot about Buck 65 so I was curious to check out what all the hype was about. I must say I was thoroughly disappointed. I didn't find his lyrics to be all that great. Some of them were alright but nothing to write home about. In truth, I wasn't listening intently from beginning to end but from what I heard (and I was there for pretty much the whole performance) I was not impressed. I tried to listen and be open to his lyrics, his music; and the comments he made but I found them to be uninspiring and tiresome. I have heard many other musicians (MCs/solo artists) that have equally as good or better lyrics and much better beats.

His trip about dissing certain pop musicians and people that listen to his stuff because of certain media etc. is a no brainer. We talk about those types of things all the time. I suppose that is alright too except that the way he did it was still pretty boring. His overall stage persona leaves a lot to be desired.

After being introduced to K-OS about a year and a half ago and going to his shows, I think he blows Buck 65 right out of the water. K-OS has solid lyrics (and some of the subject matter he talks about is similar to Buck 65) and his individual musicianship is dope + his band kicks a lot of ass! His music draws you in. I wonder how someone like K-OS doesn't sell out a show in Victoria the way Buck 65 did? (I have a few ideas why but still...) The guy that often opens up for K-OS named Kamau is also a very talented MC who has solid lyrics and better beats although his delivery is more or less the same throughout his performances.

--- Thomas (Run Chico Run), as I said to you on Saturday night I'm kicking myself for not going to your show at Logan's Pub. Besides the fact I was happy to see a lot of cool kats and close friends at that show, musically I would have been much happier listening and partying to Run Chico Run or any other solid local band from Victoria that night ---

I'm glad to hear most of the people I spoke to were excited about the show. It's nice to also see more enthusiasm on this post even though I'm not a fan.

I guess it just wasnt my cup of tea. - Mon, 2 Feb 2004 8:32am
