Hagberg User Info... | I attended the SYL show at the Commedore Ballroom last night, and like always Devin Townsend and company blew my fucking mind! It was incredible. A band from the US called The Hevills (?) opened the show, and only made me more anxious for Three Inches of Blood to take the stage. The Hevills were nothing that I would recommend to anyone, but they did please the croud by constantly reminding everyone that "Strapping Young Lad is playing tonight". Not my cup of tea. Three Inches of Blood were second on the bill, and I'm sure a lot of you can agree with me in saying that Three Inches of Blood are a great fucking band. Well, they're NOTHING SHORT OF AMAZING when you hear them on a sound system like the one in the Commedore. Performing a few new songs, as well as favorites from Battlecry Under A Wintersun...overall a brilliant performance: killer metal anthems, tight set, Balls of Ice...what can I say? These guys fucking KILL! Lastly, Strapping Young Lad. This show is going to be their upcoming live DVD release...cameras all over the place. I've seen them many times, and I'm always blown away with their live sound and performance. They performed songs from all their albums, focusing mainly on their latest, but "In the Rainy Season" (from their debut full length) will always be their best song live. I just love that track! Devin Townsend always seems to please the croud by either showing off his skills as an amazing guitar player/songwriter or telling the audience to "turn and look at your friend beside you, and kick him in the balls as hard as you can." Overall, an amazing set from an amazing band. Their musicianship and energy on stage makes them one of the best bands to see live. How's that for a first review? - Sat, 17 Jan 2004 3:23pm

_Griphin_ User Info... | Everytime I think of SYL, I always find it odd that I grew up knowing Jed Simon. Haven't run into him in years, tho'. - Sun, 18 Jan 2004 5:11pm
Pierce User Info... | I have met Jed Simon a few times since playing for Sonic Doom. Sudz was a member for SYL shortly in the 90's since Jed and him formed Armoros. the last time i hung out with jed was in Oct, the night of G3, he is doing well. - Mon, 19 Jan 2004 3:27am
Robnoxious User Info... | My Bro Chris bought Jed's old Marshalls when he switched to the Peavy 5150s. They're pretty old friends, so it's good to see Jed travelling the world and making a name for himself. Strapping has to be the premier metal band from B.C. I can think of none higher at present. Looking forward to the DVD. - Mon, 19 Jan 2004 2:33pm
Tim User Info... | This was my eigth time seeing strapping, and its neat to see how their popularity has progressed over the years to the point where they can sell out the commodore at $25 bucks a head. I remember seeing them for $6 at the Gate in 1998. I almost didn't get in and had to buy my ticket off some guy hawking his because his other buddies couldn't get tickets. The show itself was amazing as always, with SYL changing around their set to have their longtime opening number "all hail the new flesh" now set off the encore performance. This was my favorite time ever seeing them, and they have to rank as one of my top five live bands of all time easily. - Fri, 23 Jan 2004 5:44am
jay brown User Info... | Pissed me off I didn't get to see this show. I would have to agree though from the times that I have seen SYL they are definitely one of my favorite live acts of all time. Devin's hair, and Gene just being Gene... ah yes. good times, good times.I mean they're no Punky Brewster but hey. - Fri, 23 Jan 2004 6:46am
