My ARP Odyssey is up for consignment @ Classic Guitars on Fort. Come by when I'm working there and I'll give you the guided tour (TWFS 2-4-ish) - Mon, 23 Feb 2009 7:29pm

I've got a Roland MKS-50 I'm willing to part with, and a Korg Poly-800 as well. The Korg Poly-800 has the "Moog Slayer" modification, and the lower E key isn't triggering, though it's likely a minor issue as that key can be triggered via MIDI without any problems. I'm loosely considering letting go of a Korg MS-10 as well, but we'll see.

Fire me off some offers if any of these are of interest.

Edit: The Poly-800 also comes with it's original manual, a print-out of it's MIDI implementation, and a "Soundwave volume 1" tape of 64 new presets for it.

I've got it at $1799 which is my cost on the thing plus what I have to pay CG for putting it up on consignment. There may be some wriggle room, though. Come by the shop and look for the guy with glasses. - Tue, 24 Feb 2009 12:15am

Nicholas, is your Arp Odyssey a mkI, mkII or mkIII? When was the last time it was serviced? - Tue, 24 Feb 2009 12:06pm

It's a Mark II - black and gold. Haven't opened up to see if it has the Moog lawsuit filter which is very collectible (allegedly), but it sure works like a charm.

I bought it from Analogue Haven (obscenely reputable synth dealers) who apparently serviced it before I purchased it. All functions work on it. Tuning is stable. Sliders are good, although I don't really have another Odyssey to compare it with. I think if I continued to keep it, I would want to replace all the sliders with the new remakes you can get for it. Some of them are a little bit - well, not sticky per se, but a little overly sensitive. So I wonder if they're losing their resistance value. The keyboard is superb. Somebody has obviously put in new bushings recently.

The sound quality is phenomenal. (In fact, for some applications it sounds better than my Mini. It is much, much easier to dial in a burbling, squelchy funk noise on the Odyssey than on the Mini, and I will admit that I'll miss that.)

I'm mainly selling because of two things.

First, I scored a Minimoog D, which I need to pay for.

Second, the Odyssey is not really a wonderful machine for doing live shows; because the tunings are set via sliders as opposed to the octave system on the Minimoog, switching voices on the fly requires you to get the tuning right on the coarse tuning knob, then fiddle with the fine tuning knob until you're back in tune with the rest of the band. This makes it very impractical unless, say, you only want to do leads, or you only want to do bass or space noises, or you can stand figuring out what you want the synth to do before you start playing and you're willing to hold up the show while you @$#@ with it.

As a studio machine, it's awesome. You can quickly and efficiently dial in recognizeable "ARP sounds" - it's very difficult to stop playing "Chameleon" on it. (Or, for that matter, Edgar Winter's Frankenstein.) - Tue, 24 Feb 2009 6:24pm
