josh User Info... | email me we (me and tyson from moneyshot) do 24 track digital off the board and post production/mixing/mastering. - Thu, 28 Nov 2002 2:38pm
Scott Laming User Info... | or just line out from any soundboard to a mini disc player or some other digital recording device. Thats about the easiest way. - Thu, 28 Nov 2002 2:39pm
AC Gallows User Info... | Thats waaaaaay too high tech for me. Shit im getting old.... - Thu, 28 Nov 2002 2:44pm
Zaner | if you do the line out from the mixing board thing...make sure your stage sound is balanced. We did this once a long time ago, and one guitar is way way way louder than the other. - Thu, 28 Nov 2002 3:11pm
josh | just to clarify, we don't record the mix off the board, we record each track individually, mix and master later so stage balance is not an issue - Thu, 28 Nov 2002 3:49pm
RSBF | someone please email me and let me know how i would go about getting something like this done [email protected] - Thu, 28 Nov 2002 3:53pm
Wolfgang | we just recorded live @ soundgarden and it sounds good. just rent a DAT from l&m and hook it up to the soundboard...pretty cheap for decent sound. - Thu, 28 Nov 2002 4:01pm
jay brown User Info... | you got it wrong zack, we didnt use a DAT, you never get a good mix using a DAT. We used an ADAT, you were close though. With an ADAT you can take it into the studio afterwards and mix everything seperately so that you can get a studio quality sound. You cant do that with a DAT, the levels you record are the levels you have, and if your guitar is too quiet or the drums or whatever thats the way they stay. You can rent an ADAT at long and mcquade. - Thu, 28 Nov 2002 7:52pm

Ian McG | Hey Jay, how much was it to rent the ADAT for a night from l&m? - Thu, 28 Nov 2002 11:12pm
ROSS B AY User Info... | about 70 bones a day we spent wasn't it? Do it on a friday or else yer stuck paying 2 days rent on it like we were cause they aint oppen sundays. Nice trick. - Thu, 28 Nov 2002 11:42pm
josh User Info... | That apogee recorder is only a two channel unit, which would mean that you would be recording a board mix. Without bringing in your own board, patching into all the mics and mixing it yourself on the fly, you would be dependant on the room mix from the soundguys board. A good room mix isn't necessarily a good recorded mix. We use a mackie sdr 24 track hard disk recorder. What you record is the actual signals from the stage from each channel of the board. That way you have good unmodified source signals to work with. We mix later, in a studio, exactly like jay is talking about with the ADAT. You add the mic preamp, compressor, delay, reverb, whatever loops to each channel during mixing. - Fri, 29 Nov 2002 1:17am
