ian.m. User Info... | i'd like to join/start a band and create songs with split identities. if you know what i mean when i say "dualism" then apply it to a song. sonic youth are very good at this, i find. another good example (a more recent example) would be ..and you will know us by the trial of dead's Perfect Teenhood. really hard, fast parts with eerie slow parts as well. it's come to my attention that slow, calculated music (such as mogwai, sigur ros, pedro the lion, even some radiohead) can be very thought-provoking. it's this kind of thing i'd like to mix with some high energy rock. can we, please? email your ideas, interests, set ups, etc.etc. i play guitar on a fender strat, through a fender princeton chorus. - Thu, 27 Feb 2003 3:54pm

Anonymous | Kind of like Foghat, but with a trumpet also. - Thu, 27 Feb 2003 7:35pm
ian.m. | think of combining two very different songs together, unorthodox-like. dichotomies, if you will. i find typical song break-downs horribly boring - instead of having boring shit like that, i'd like to create something sonically interesting and different. i don't like this example, but think of Paranoid Android, by radiohead - there are two very distinct songs in it, the slow one and the fast one. that's what i'm getting at if you're not interested, how about not replying - Thu, 27 Feb 2003 8:43pm
golfer | How about you not be a rude ass, or you will meet my friend with your ass, his name is foot. Foot meet Rude ass. - Thu, 27 Feb 2003 9:49pm
Spark | It's probably not a good idea to limit yourself to one song structure, let alone build a band souly on that premise. Just my opinion - Thu, 27 Feb 2003 10:12pm
ian.m. User Info... | i wasn't being rude golfer. you're the one who was confused about the idea, so i tried to clarify. the rude ass is the weenie who doesn't put their name in their post who thinks any comment about foghat is a funny one. and i'm not trying to stick to one song structure, it's just one idea; collaboration is what i'm looking for... and this place is effectively useless, so far. - Thu, 27 Feb 2003 10:50pm
doink User Info... | Your idea is a pretentious, lame-ass one. Talk about form over content. - Fri, 28 Feb 2003 12:24am

JRC User Info... | You might also want to never put ads in livevictoria ever again. It's like trying to find a needle in a haystack with this community! Ask around in the city, that's your best bet. Good Luck! - Sun, 2 Mar 2003 6:53pm
Billy Lament User Info... | Hey, Wow, someone who hasn't heard Modest Mouse. If anyone hasn't heard Modest Mouse you should really check them out. Nevertheless, I have been writing music, as well as performing, for quite a long time and I honestly think that, though the individual who called you pretentious went about it in an an incredibly rude manner, in a sense I think they were right. When a certain guitar riff or vocal melody or whatever comes to you, then pick up your instrument of choice and begin playing it and continue playing it until you can't play it any more. For that matter, if your instrument isn't available to you, just let the melody go though your head over and over. When you do this, the song will develop itself and, when it does, you will know that it is right. This might mean that the song is sometimes fomulaic and it might mean that sometimes that song is far more irratic. If you reach the point where you can't play the riff or sing the melody anymore and nothing has come to you, then it was probably never meant to be a song. I have found that, at least for myself, the more logical the approach I take in writing a song, the less likely it is that I will be happy with the song afterwards. At least that what I think but it's for everyone to draw they're own conclusions. - Mon, 3 Mar 2003 3:50pm
