Gman User Info... | So when I used to be a lad back in the day, being a keyboard player, none of the guitarists would talk to me. They were all like: Keyboards aren't real instruments. Then I am totally like, fuck you suckers, and go to read my Keyboard magazine where I read that classically trained musicians are freaking out that Danny Elfman is composing scores for Hollywood movies - Danny being an un-trained pop musician from Oingo Boingo. It seems that folks of different genres and experiences are never able to get it together long enough to appreciate what they are all capable of. Where do you stand on this? bearhead User Info... | but then what about anomilies like that dude who played guitar for Megadeath and shit? He was like totally a classicaly trained guitar player. My 2 bits is that sometimes knowing too much about the science and specifics of the thing you are doing can maybe inhibit your creativity and acceptance of simplicity. no no...that was terrible. - Tue, 14 Oct 2003 2:03pm

Zippgunn User Info... | MonkeyWithNoBones is on crack; not only could Miles read music, he studied at Julliard for crissake. Reading music is handy but not essential unless you want a career in classical music or possibly jazz. Remember that "classically trained" often translates into "can't improvise" - Sun, 19 Oct 2003 11:45pm
