Hey man...I think tagging is cool and shit,...I love the graffitti murals etc. What I do fucking hate is the fact that tourists see this shit and won,t come out at night to drop money in my case.Which in turn goes to a waitress at a coffee shop, which may put diapers on a baby etc.I think the murals rock up in Esquimalt.Guys there is a place for it...but not in our downtown core. The tourist money generates and sustains countless lives that depend on the money. We cannot pay our taxes for welfare all the time if we are laid off because of the lack of tourism. In turn if kids/adults are tagging prime spots for tourists, money gets tighter and tighter ,then the next thing you know,a mom on welfare will get cut off somewhere,or can,t get you that new c.d you want.Campbell reworked the system for welfare people to trim a budget (so he can get a condo etc)...because of a lack of tourism ( 9/11)I love the murals, tagging when they are in a spot hidden away from the eyes of these people.Alot of guys are very artistic with a spray can, paint marker etc.But man...with 9/11 fears etc....we should be entertaining these tourists and get money flowing in Victoria...not scaring them back into their hotels at night because they think gangs will be out soon.I tip everyone in this town with my hard earned money be it from busking or my professional high class dishwashing job...but ya know what? I need to create my music career with this little money I get,and I,m affected....I,m sure down the line somewhere we are all affected by this...if ya wanna get noticed...show your face doing some cool ass shit through your talents..murals/artwork etc...don,t tag our city into bankruptcy my friends.I,m not anti-tag....but we need to keep our downtown core clean.peace out. - Wed, 1 Oct 2003 2:14pm

Why are Americans scared to come here after the anniversary of the coup in Chile (9/11)? I'm terribly confused. - Sat, 4 Oct 2003 10:04pm

You guys are idiots......i'd rather see a tag any day than your stupid business sign. I find corperate adversisements far more offensive to the eyes than graffiti (even the shitty ego driven write-my-stupid-poorly-drawn-name-everywhere crap). - Thu, 9 Oct 2003 1:02am

you ever see scafolding set up on sidewalks or plywood frames set up around a construction site? ive heard of guys getting paid to graff that shit.... in the downtown core.whats the issue here?
id rather see some cool artwork done,on the side of a building than have any concern weather a tourist likes it or not.as far as im concerned if you dont like it, dont waste your time and money visiting victoria cuz thats part of victoria culture like it or not.its been this way for years and it doesnt seem to put a damper on the industry.victoria is a nice place (if you havent lived here for years) and im sure just about anywhere a tourist comes from there is going to be graffiti on the walls in thier city.its not like some guy and his wife are gonna come to vic see some guys crappy generic tag on the side of telephone pole and run in fear for the next boat out of town cuz theyve never seen it before.
and i dont think the world is gonna come crashing down around us cuz some kid with a spray can tags something. - Thu, 9 Oct 2003 7:51am

we are a tourist/government town man....when the tourists are gone...people loose thier jobs. Its not like we depend on anything else....thats my point...we "are" a tourist town.So...yes,...they see it in thier city....but here,we need to attract people for new jobs etc. - Tue, 14 Oct 2003 11:16am

i agree with the fact that we are a tourist town, but like i said people come to victoria for what it is, that includes the stupid street culture like it or not. tourism is seasonal , and people lose thier jobs due to the effect of seasonal change just as most anyone in the trades.it has nothing to do with spraypaint.
i said it before victoria is a nice place to visit.and i dont see someone not wanting to come back becuase of the graffitti. i myself think its stupid to spray random crap everywhere but what i have to say isnt going to change it.
i just dont think its hurting tourism in victoria
if you want to offer a solution to this maybe the answer is that we should be hiring people that get laid off in the slow season for "beutification projects " to clean up the spray paint and other stuff to make vic that much more presentable when the tourist season comes around again. - Tue, 14 Oct 2003 11:38am
