bbjones User Info... | http://www.canada.com/victoriatimescolonist/news/story.html?id=bd09aabb-a433-4edd-80b8-77cf8ffb58cf Looks like he's almost to the point of serious crimial charges... and we can only hope for a long term stay inside a comfy cell. Keep it up! Illegal tenters busted again Joanne Hatherly, Times Colonist Published: Friday, October 31, 2008 Activist David Johnston was arrested at Victoria City Hall's Centennial Square this morning. Sgt. Grant Hamilton of Victoria Police Department says that night duty officers reported a tent had been erected by Johnston and three others in the Square. The campers ignored repeated warnings from police to remove their belongings. At about 9 a.m., 13 officers arrested one woman and three men for contravening the City of Victoria's bylaw that states overnight campers can only erect shelters between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. Sgt. Grant Hamilton of Victoria Police Department said no one resisted arrest. Johnston was arrested for breaching a court order that states he must obey the direction of any police officer enforcing any city bylaw. That court order stems from Johnston's Oct. 17 arrest, along with five others, for camping at Beacon Hill Park. Johnston had been repeatedly for camping on public property, notably on the grounds at St. Ann's Academy where security officers were often left cleaning up a mess. Johnston has renewed his overnight camping campaign after a B.C. Supreme Court decision ruled that it is unconstitutional to prohibit the homeless from protecting themselves from the elements by erecting an overhead shelter as long as there are an insufficient number of shelter beds available to them. Johnston has likened shelter beds to "internment camps" and says he wouldn't sleep in them even if they were available. The woman and two men arrested with Johnston were to be released on a promise to appear. Bylaw tickets will be issued to the individuals. Police are preparing a recommendation for charges to be forwarded to Crown counsel. Johnston is still in custody. He will attend a tele-bail hearing Saturday morning in connection with breaching the conditions of his release. [email protected] - Fri, 31 Oct 2008 2:54pm Edited: Fri, 31 Oct 2008 2:54pm

Zedius User Info... | awe I feel so bad for that kitten! :( - Fri, 31 Oct 2008 4:08pm
Jl User Info... | what an idiot(daj that is). I heard this on the radio and wasn't suprised to hear it. But of all places; why the fuck would you want to sleep in Centen. Park?!?!?!? This guy never ceases to amaze me with his need for society and the media. What a fucking attention suckling little fuck. - Fri, 31 Oct 2008 5:00pm
Jl User Info... | http://victoria.en.craigslist.ca/pol/847722477.html got a kick outta this one. I wonder if that number is real.... only one way to find out? - Fri, 31 Oct 2008 5:04pm
Doc User Info... | I wonder if they''ll let him out again when he goes on hunger strike. I suspect yes, but I think it would be ammusing if they don't. We could see how good his will power is then. ~Keeping the world safe from democracy. Doc - Fri, 31 Oct 2008 5:24pm
Mr. Hell User Info... | All cats should have to wear a cone for at least 2 days a week. Not much is funnier than that. When DAJ starts his hunger revolt, I hope the cops eat in front of him constantly. - Fri, 31 Oct 2008 6:07pm
Hearse User Info... | Mr. Hell: ... and we can only hope for a long term stay inside a comfy cell. Do you have any idea how expensive it is to house a prisoner? # Cost of incarcerating a provincial prisoner (2004/5): $141.78: per prisoner/per day That's not including police or court costs. - Sun, 2 Nov 2008 1:08pm
Mr. Hell User Info... | More proof that you half read things and put words into my mouth that I never said. BBJones said, "and we can only hope for a long term stay inside a comfy cell." I would suggest DAJ be put on ConAir and banished from this realm. - Sun, 2 Nov 2008 1:29pm

BBJones User Info... | DAJ in jail means it saves the taxpayers money. How much does it cost to gather up 13 officers in a coordinated arrest of DAJ + 3 deciples? How much does it cost having DAJ continuously put this issue to the courts (for 3+ years now)? Anything that keeps him away from our homeless problem is worth the money. Be it jail, a free plane ride or even a voodoo curse. Pick one and it will result in a better world for the rest of us. - Sun, 2 Nov 2008 8:11pm
Chopper User Info... | I'll pick take him out back and put him out of our misery, but that option wasn't listed. Consider this a write in. - Mon, 3 Nov 2008 2:20am
mikey User Info... | lol chopper. you're such a ludicrous caricature of an enraged human being. lol. - Tue, 4 Nov 2008 8:11am
Chopper User Info... | Caricature implies exaggeration, which I wasn't. We'd all be better off without DAJ, especially the homeless. If it wasn't for the utter waste of 1 million+ dollars of taxpayers money on his charter challenge, there would be more shelter beds and support programs. He's done nothing for the homeless population, this is all about his own super-ego. Look up super-ego if you don't know what it means. - Tue, 4 Nov 2008 9:42pm
JDL User Info... | "He's done nothing for the homeless population, this is all about his own super-ego" in previous posts he(daj) referred to this "crusade" as having NOTHING to do with the homeless issues at hand. So, consequently, the people preeching human rights and for a solution to the problem(of course they offer no insight to this) are preeching to someone that cares about the homeless problem about as much as we care for him... which is NONE. That's gotta be a sucker punch to all you bleeding hearts out there. - Wed, 5 Nov 2008 11:57am
Mike User Info... | throwing him in jail is a waste of money too. he isnt some violent thieving crack pusher.. I guess its constitutional to throw him in prison.. but not to drop him off in Fort Mcmurray with a 'give me a job' poster. - Mon, 10 Nov 2008 11:41am
Bounce User Info... | The Urine test THIS GUY MAKES A GOOD POINT This was written by a construction worker in Fort MacMurray- he sure makes a lot of sense. I work, they pay me. I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit. In order to earn that pay cheque, I work on a rig site for a Fort Mac construction project. I am required to pass a random urine test, with which I have no problem. What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test. Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare cheque because I have to pass one to earn it for them? Please understand that I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do on the other hand have a problem with helping someone sit on their ass drinking beer and smoking dope. Could you imagine how much money the provinces would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance cheque? - Mon, 10 Nov 2008 2:42pm Edited: Mon, 10 Nov 2008 2:46pm
ROSS B AY User Info... | In %100 percent agreement. - Mon, 10 Nov 2008 4:34pm
Zedius User Info... | And what do you do if they don't pass the urine test? If you stop giving them welfare, they will be on the street with even less possibility of getting clean. Drug addiction is more complicated than quitting cold turkey so you can receive your welfare check. There needs to be a successful rehabilitation program for them. If they choose not to use the options at hand to the best of their ability, THEN I suppose it's ok to let them fend to their own devices, and throw them in jail if that means stealing purses and breaking into cars. - Mon, 10 Nov 2008 6:37pm Edited: Mon, 10 Nov 2008 6:37pm
trevor corey User Info... | Piss tests are bullshit. - Mon, 10 Nov 2008 10:50pm
Chopper User Info... | 'There needs to be a successful rehabilitation program for them.' Which they can pay for themselves. Can't pay for it? That's your issue. The taxpayers never told them to pick up the stem/pipe/needle. And it's not the taxpayers responsibility to fix their mistakes. And yes urine tests are a joke, hair follicle test on the other hand... - Tue, 11 Nov 2008 5:02pm Edited: Tue, 11 Nov 2008 5:02pm
canon.docre User Info... | Uhhh what, a piss test to get a welfare cheque? Oh I forgot, drug addicts don't need help. In fact it would save BBJone's precious tax money if these people just died quicker so maybe the piss test is a good idea. Not to mention most drug addicts on the streets can't even get social assistance, you need a place to live for them to cut you a cheque. plus, someone being in jail saves money rather than just letting them sleep outside in a tent? that is fucking stupid. and ok, what were the costs of 13 cops arresting three people who didn't even resist? What do beat cops make an hour? $30/hour? Guess how much it costs to house an inmate per day? I'm sure you can afford a calculator so work it out. Its not like hard drug addicts could just cold-turkey overnight if in fact something as stupid as urine samples were required for social assisstance, not just for physical reasons but by the time someone is a junkie there is probably a history of mental problems, abuse, and other contributing factors that landed them in that place. Y Yes, its a choice, but for someone to make that choice it is rather dense to ignore our collective responsibility, social climate, class barriers, among other things, as a reason that this sickness exists in our oh-so-beautiful city. And no, you don't feel there is a collective responsibility to our fellow man? No wonder the world can be such a shitty place. - Thu, 13 Nov 2008 1:44pm
Jl User Info... | Your bleeding heart falls on deaf ears and blind eyes. why should i feel ANY responsibility for some idiot who decided they NEED to hit the crack pipe or meth? I have NO association with those drugs and nor do I feel I should be or feel responsible for anyone who makes that choice. Am I callous? Maybe, but Im not taking on responsibility for someone who CLEARLY dis-regards OUR SOCIETIES view on "drugs". You cant come out and say "they didn't know the effects of the drug" or "its not their fault"... that is complete and utter bullshit and enabling others to feel that making a choice like that holds no repurcussion. YOU SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR ACTIONS AND CHOICES. If someone kills someone; they are accountable for their actions. If someone decides to stick a needle in their arm, its then US that should feel responsible? Fuck that noise! - Thu, 13 Nov 2008 2:18pm
Mike User Info... | its definately a massive waste of money to put a guy like DAJ In jail.. but then I already said that. Community hours maybe.. he could be sentenced to clean up the areas where people camp. - Thu, 13 Nov 2008 2:22pm
Zedius User Info... | If someone kills someone they're punished to some extent by the judicial system. Part of that is rehabilitation, even in the case of murder. It's open for discussion and constant re-evaluation how much of the focus should be on rehabilitation and how much on punishment. Most of our society is more than willing to help rehabilitate drug addicts who want the help. - Fri, 14 Nov 2008 2:23pm
canon.docre User Info... | Definitely Zedius, most people in our society do want to rehabilitate drug addicts. I don't really take this messageboard as a good test sample of the general population. People like Jl who don't give a fuck about anyone but themselves are the minority, and for that I'm glad. Sometimes assholes are just the most vocal so you can forget that doesn't mean they speak for everyone. - Fri, 14 Nov 2008 3:15pm
Jl User Info... | jesus hippy loving christ... its not that I dont want them(drug addicts) to rehab themselves... its that I hold no pity or sympathy for them. It's their problem and if they want to fix it... then by all means, seek help. But when you go as far as saying its our responsibility to hold an addicts hand while he/she goes through treatment because "its not their fault" is complete fucking bullshit. as I've said from the beginning; Im not responsible nor do I feel any responsibility for another person's addiction(barring me having/trying to stick a needle in someone's arm or force them to do drugs; which i would never do!). And as for you're opinion, cannon, you're so wrapped up in "the collectivness of mankind"; why not go out and accept a drug addict into your home and let them claim a welfare check? THat'd be helping somone out. Don't wanna go for it? (that wouldn't suprise me) - Sun, 16 Nov 2008 6:39pm
canon.docre User Info... | ok Jl we get it you don't want to actively help drug addicts. very noble. believe it or not i've stuck with some people through their addictions because some of them have been my friends and family and i understand what they're going through. - Sun, 16 Nov 2008 10:50pm
ROSS B AY User Info... | "People like Jl who don't give a fuck about anyone but themselves are the minority" Unfortunately, wrong. - Mon, 17 Nov 2008 5:16am Edited: Mon, 17 Nov 2008 5:20am
Jl User Info... | Family and friends... im not talking about family and friends. Im talking about the crack head who's prayin to the pavement for another fix... THAT'S what I have no pity or remorse for. I would do just about anything for a friend or family.. but accept responsibility for their actions. I understand its a hard thing to do, quit doing drugs, but I guess I've been jaded in my opinion as the ONLY addicts I see are the one's on the street that do nothing but beg for change, and when you dont have any to "spare" you're then lambasted for being selfish... Theres a line for everyone... Unfortunately I've met my breaking point. - Mon, 17 Nov 2008 11:46am
