So i was coming lyles the other day and i had my bike with me and I decided to to take the bus home because i live out by the university. I crossing the road to get to the otherside of the street to catch the bus. The bus was a little behind me But he went passed and stopped at the bustop. I ran up to the door and knocked on the window with some woman and the bastard smiled and fuckin took off. This seems to happen way too much. I see it all the time. I thought you wanted the publics money? But it seems like some bus drivers dont pick you up just for the hell of it. I have also seen an old woman dragg several feet from a bus because the idiot closed the door on her arm. AND he didnt stop even though many on the bus were having a fit over it. I dont get it. more than half of the bus drivers are assholes. I made a complaint and it seems nothing will happen. Bullshit honestly - Wed, 23 May 2007 8:34pm

over here in Vancouver it's not much better. I can't tell you how many times I've sat and waited for a bus that never showed up. The bus I take in the morning to get to work only runs 2x a day..once going south in the morning at 6:45 am and once going north at 4:07 pm. If that bus doesn't show or I miss it, I have to take a different bus and catch a transfer that adds at least another 1/2 hour to 45 mins to the trip. So needless to say, if that bus doesn't show, I'm pissed. Ever tried calling the customer relations phone line?? They close at 3 or 3:30! Who the fuck closes a customer relations line in the middle of the afternoon? And if you leave a message, good luck getting any kind of reply.

All I want is some accountability. If a bus is significantly late or doesn't show, whoever is at fault should have to suffer some kind of penalty. - Thu, 24 May 2007 9:14am Edited: Thu, 24 May 2007 9:39am

on the accountability issue... what/who would be accountable for heavy traffic? or suppose an accident happened on the lions gate, but was the fault of someone else. Should bus drivers then be accountable for other peoples mistakes? or should they be allowed to drive their route without having to worry about liability or accountability?
personally, I think I would rather have a driver at ease behind the wheel than a driver worried about making a stop ontime and then putting the lives on board at risk of an accident fatal or non-threatening.
I wish there was some way of bitching out BC transit but everytime I think I have a good point; it always comes down to passenger saftey. No matter what the passengers life is more important than a fine. - Thu, 24 May 2007 1:48pm

I've had the bus drive off without me when the bus driver is fully aware of my presence. I mean I'm like waving at them and knocking at the door and I'm like frickin' 6'2, I mean I stand out more than the average person.. how could they miss me?

One time I was going to catch the bus (the bus driver could see me coming) and he shut the doors when I got up to the bus and started to pull away, so I stood infront of it and the bus driver just looked at me and shook his head, so I pointed to the next bus stop which was maybe 30 seconds away, and ran after the bus hoping he'd stop. So of course he didn't so I shot him the finger and yelled "FUCK YOU!".

Shit like this happens way way way too often. Some bus drivers are really awesome though. The "metalhead driver" as I call him his the worst though... he's always either 5 minutes early or late, and just flies down the road like a fucking maniac. - Thu, 24 May 2007 11:19pm

you'll know if the bus is late because of traffic, and I'm not worried about busses being late because of that. I'm talking about busses that just don't show up. If the bus is supposed to come every 15 minutes, and one doesn't show for over 1/2 an hour...that fucker who didn't show should be called out. - Fri, 25 May 2007 8:15am

I know bus drivers are not alowed to stop unless it's an actual bus stop! and I see people running into traffic everyday to try and get the bus drivers attention and the bus drives off! because it's not safe to stop in the middle of the road to let someone on who should buy a watch!!!!!......my cousin is a bus driver, it's a pretty stressful Job...... - Sun, 27 May 2007 10:06am

You shouldn't take a job that you're not ready to handle, like people in hospitality who hate drunk people.

Bus drivers know what they are getting into, doesn't make it right tho.

Transit is SO BAD here that I bike including in the winter rain. I found that I was actually faster than some routes as well as more freedom and a better physical condition.

As far as the ENTIRETY of the situation tho, my understanding is that the BC transit system is a BUSINESS that is SUBSIDIZED by the GOVERNMENT, which means the PEOPLE pay for part of the services (In part that is why I am pissed that they did that 25 cent increase when they got millions in government money to upgrade)
These bus drivers are public employees and more important, EMPLOYEES. They should have a name badge, number or something to identify them to source out the problem ones, because its the rotten ones that are making it shit for the rest of 'em.

I lived in Calgary for two years and the transit system there is WAY BETTER, just not in the fact there's a light rail system, but ALL bus drivers know almost ALL the routes and are always on time. Shit, you can even call the transit number and punch in the stop number and you can find out the next three times on all buses that stop there...

I like driving my car...my hair blowing in the wind...playing my tunes......freedom to go where ever whenever!!! but I took the bus for many years....I hated it....smelly, sick people..people not offering me a seat when I was standing, nine months pregnant......yeah it sucked....I feel for people who have to take the bus....well I guess there are some who choose to.....anyway about the stressfull job thing, my cousin says its because of the passengers not because of the job itself, there are alot of rude assholes who ride the bus, and some who expect to ride for free and blow a spaz when denied boarding.also some asshole busdrivers though!!..the world is full of colorful characters......lol.....thats my piece of the week!!!!! - Tue, 29 May 2007 6:28pm

Victoria really needs an LRT. I rarely took buses when I lived in Calgary. But then rather than asshole bus drivers you get to deal with asshole LRT cops. - Tue, 29 May 2007 9:42pm

If we got an LRT, I would totally become an LRT cop just to be an asshole to paying customers and beat up DAJ and his friends for loitering. - Wed, 30 May 2007 3:39pm

I got on the last skytrain last night after the show and there were 2 cops riding it. I tried to get on another car. Why? Not because I hate cops or anything, but because I always think they're going to attract trouble, like they're wearing big "kick me" signs. People are messed up. I always feel like ducking around cops.

I almost never see them on there, especially that late, but there's been some stuff on the news lately about attacks on women around skytrain stations.

Did anyone see the news items about the driver who flipped out on some deadbeat who spit on him? TOTALLY justified, I think. The reporter even went and hassled the guy who did it. Anyone spit on me I'd want to hurt him bad too, risking my job or not. - Sat, 2 Jun 2007 2:51pm

Well, when i actually got to the bus he wasnt moving yet. he didnt move for another 3-5 seconds....like i said he looked at me, smiled and took off. Yes i choose to take transit even though i have a bike, but working 9 hrs in a restuarant on your feet, your fuckin tired. He knew i was there, i guess he felt like being an asshole - Tue, 5 Jun 2007 8:07pm

another story:
me and my friend aidan were late for a band practice in metchosin (live in sooke) and we were going to meet at the bus stop for the bus that left at 5:23 or something, aidan was already on the bus and it was 5:19. I was in the parking lot walking towards the bus when the doors started to close so i began to run towards the bus waving my hands, aidan was right by the drivers so he said "oh could you please wait for my bass player, he's right there in the hat" and the bus driver said "he can catch the next bus"
I was in a panic at this time and aidan said "Well he's right here, just another few seconds" (I was knocking on the window at this point) and he said "HE CAN CATCH, THE NEXT, BUS" and drove away... what the HELL is with this...

lol.....I think its a matter of.....possibly the bus driver has worked for BC Transit for too long!!! those 20 seconds it takes to wait for a running passenger are far too long.......lol...must get annoying for them If you think about it....it Probably happens at every stop! it would drive me nuts....then again...everything drives me nuts!!!...but really they do have a schedule to follow and 20 extra seconds at every stop can ad up and make them late!....the redundancy of that job would kill me....lol....I worked at A&W for 7 years,,,,,I learned to hate customers! " I 'll have a Double Teen Burger, Onion Rings and a large DIET coke? whats the point of the diet?...lol...or on the last Wednesday of every month I would see woman with small children in vehicles with no seatbelts and a beer in the console.....I worked In Duncan!..anyway...way off topic sorry! - Sat, 9 Jun 2007 7:50am
