Hang the DJ User Info... | I love vinyl, I got all my Led Zeppelin, Doors and Beatles on it, but too bad there's no portable record players... you know it would look kinda weird carrying around a big ol' klunker... My portable cd player is already klunky and old school enough now with all those microscopic iPods out... It's like it's godzilla or something... People run down the street screaming at the sight of it you know... Gosh... - Wed, 30 Aug 2006 11:01pm
jeff User Info... | vinyl rules, BUT, cds are the way to go because they are portible and are easier to get, cheaper(sometimes) and everyone has atleast one cd player in there house, not many of my friends/people i know have record players PS - Ipods are made by satan DONT BUY THEM. Also griphin i always read about how your going on about your metallica kill'em all record, ditch has a bootleg of one of there demos on vinyl... - Thu, 31 Aug 2006 11:30am

Nik Olaz User Info... | I love vinyl sound much more than CD or anything else...but I own an ipod with a love/hate relationship. - Fri, 1 Sep 2006 12:42am
_Griphin_ User Info... | I don't get analog vs. digital, I mean I can transfer vinyl/analog to computer, but it's missing the real reason you listen to vinyl/analog, the ambience. And what happened to dynamic range? Oh, and I finally found Kill 'em All on Banzai vinyl, I know Turntable have Master of Puppets and Ride the (fuckin') Lightning on vinyl, but the only other record I wanna find is Garage Days Re-Revisited. - Fri, 1 Sep 2006 12:59am Edited: Fri, 1 Sep 2006 1:01am
KnifeGhost User Info... | Shut up guys, you're making me want a turntable. - Fri, 1 Sep 2006 1:18am

_Griphin_ User Info... | If you get a turntable, find either a Technics SL1200 MK2/M3D or try to find one of those turntables where the needle is connected to the lid and plays in a straight line. Also find a belt drive too. - Fri, 1 Sep 2006 9:14pm Edited: Fri, 1 Sep 2006 9:16pm
Platoon User Info... | Ipods were made by Satan and that is why I have mine. - Fri, 1 Sep 2006 9:56pm
Hang the DJ User Info... | I hate iPods and cell phones/mp3 players. Actually no I'm just against music downloading..okay. It's wrong! Yeah sure I spend like 60 bucks+ a month on cd's but oh well. There's no guilt in that and I can hold the art in my hands and declare that I am..a true..fan. Nothing's wrong if you buy a bunch of cd's and load them on to your iPod or anything... But my question is... What's next? Really, in 10 years we'll have little music players implanted in our brains that read our thoughts and can play the songs we want.. Oh, and if you're angry they'll play you Nine Inch Nails "wish" or if you're sad they'll play you some Coldplay.. To suit your mood... Or if you're chillin' with the cool kidz in the library they'll play you some James Blunt. Oh god I don't like his voice... Or yeah if you wanna get your gangster on they'll play you some 50 cent. ding ding ding - Sat, 2 Sep 2006 8:51pm
Tyler User Info... | I tend to buy everything on vinyl, when the option is available. It's partially because I've been suckered into the whole "ooh collectible out of print limited pressing coloured special edition" thing, it just feels like you're buying something that they haven't made a lot of since cds can just be pressed in huuge amounts for cheap, but records usually have specific pressings of specific amounts, and things to distinguish between pressings. I have like 85 records that are linked to hardcore/punk/screamo/indie rock/whatever. Plus there's the aspect of all the art and inserts and such! Sometimes cramming all that into a tiny jewel case ruins it! I mean I have a ton of cds and demos and I love them, but it's a different kind of love. Plus will anything replace the 7"?? Never! There is a website with a forum for you vinyl junkies... http://vivalavinyl.org but they are mostly into screamo (of the sort that few people in victoria are even interested in, not the "I scream sometimes so maybe my band is screamo" variety) - Sun, 3 Sep 2006 10:50pm

Jeremy Baker User Info... | Vinyl is fun to collect but so seriously not practical. I have a record player, I buy the odd record (like Tyler I am a sucker for the rare and limited pressings), but almost never fire it up. I usually record it to an MP3. I play records for fun sometimes, like doing civil war reenactments and looking at stamp collections. Give your head a shake, the iPod (MP3 Players) is truely a great invention for the serious music nerd. - Tue, 12 Sep 2006 4:10pm Edited: Tue, 12 Sep 2006 4:11pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | A lot of people don't buy vinyl cause well, it's huge and requires something with a pre amp on it, whereas CD is smaller and has a PreAmp built into it. I dunno, I just bought Paul & Linda McCartney-Ram on Apple green label thick vinyl (the thicker the vinyl the better it sounds), I was floored how well it sounded. Pity I can't hunt down more punk albums (I won't buy re-pressings). - Tue, 12 Sep 2006 7:49pm Edited: Tue, 12 Sep 2006 7:50pm
Shaggy User Info... | I better not let Griphin look at my collection then *eg* Although Gary Brainless has the most incredible vinyl collection I think I've ever seen! - Tue, 12 Sep 2006 11:41pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | Garry Brainless sold about 1,400 records, needless to say I was trying to figure out what rare pieces of vinyl he had (he did this about 4 years ago). Rare pieces of vinyl I have: NoMeansNo-YouKillMe (Undergrowth)/Betrayal, Fear, Anger, Hatred (45)/Dance of the Headless Bourgeoisie (45), D.O.A.-War on 45, Shovlhed-Stove Boy Serves Daily Special (it's in MINT shape, only been played 2 times), Goatboy-MUST DIE (clear Opaque Orange vinyl), Jimi Hendrix-Are You Experienced (original pressing), Metallica-Kill 'em All (Banzai). I own about 50 LPs and about 15 45s (all local stuff). I wanna hunt down an original DOA-Hardcore 81 pressing (not a reissue), as well as a cheap version of House of Commons-Patriot 12", Exciter-Violence and Force on Banzai, Sacrifice-Soldiers of Misfortune and Death-Scream Bloody GORE. That's just a start. - Wed, 13 Sep 2006 11:48am Edited: Wed, 13 Sep 2006 11:06pm
Shaggy User Info... | All my vinyl has been boxed up for years. No turntable anymore, not like that'd matter. I collected 1st pressing vinyl back in the late 70's early 80's. They got played once to record to tape, then slapped into a plastic sleeves to never see the light of day again. I should drag the huge box out someday and reminisce about my youth. - Thu, 14 Sep 2006 9:42am
_Griphin_ User Info... | I was gonna ask if you needed someone to properly transfer that audio, but I see you've already made copies. - Thu, 14 Sep 2006 10:47am
Shaggy User Info... | I wish I'd known Gary was clearing his collection out to that degree to be honest. Oh well, that's what happens when you pretty much just drop out of the scene. I remember when I 1st moved here in 88 and cash was tight, I actually took a few albums down to Lyles to try and sell. All my LP's are 1st pressing imports, so thought they'd be worth something. Man was I shocked when they offered next to nothing for them. Glad I kept them though. - Thu, 14 Sep 2006 1:42pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | Cool, I found a pic of my turntable!!! Figures it's a Philips. :) - Fri, 15 Sep 2006 11:08pm
Indole Derivative User Info... | I got a memorex MP3 Player for $30 brand new from some shitty store downtown. It holds 128 megabytes of songs, and plays em too. IF you dont like ipods, buy one of these, they put even cd players to shame. Whats wrong with no skipping, more songs, and a smaller more portable player? trendieness, i guess. - Sat, 16 Sep 2006 7:41pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | Is that the one you can plug into the square shaped port and transfer data to it? (Sorry, my mind is blank to the name of the port, I have 5 of them at the front of my case). - Sat, 16 Sep 2006 9:32pm
Indole Derivative User Info... | Usb port? then oui, oui it is. - Sat, 16 Sep 2006 9:39pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | I just got my Hitachi HT-L303 turntable today, I LOVE linear tracking. What I wanted to mention, when I was at Q-Electronics today I see they've got a HUGE amount of turntables for sale, including 2 Linear Tracking turntables, a Technics SL-5 (with a Ortofon stylus, easily worth the $150 they want for the table, as well as pitch control) and an AKAI Linear Tracking turntable (price unknown). They also have a few Akai reel-to-reel decks in there, but they want too much money for them ($400 each), these are great decks for recording live sound (that's what a lot of bands used to use before the advent of CuBase and ProTewls). The guy at Q-Electronics mentioned to me they've got about 200 turntables there trying to sell, good place to buy a turntable from. On the downside, THIS TOWN SUCKS FOR RARE AUDIO STUFF!!! I have to order my stylus from LPGear cause noone has a decent stylus for my turntable, and having a decent stylus makes a huge difference on how the audio sounds. - Sat, 7 Oct 2006 6:50pm Edited: Sat, 7 Oct 2006 6:57pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | Here are some really cool looking pictures of turntables (I wish I had, I'm big into this type of art), let's start with: 200kg chasis made from lead, crushed granite and slate mixed into epoxy resin. 38 kg platter is steel and PVC, laminated and bolted together on an inverted 40mm bearing. 24v dc motor skewed armature design housed in a massive casing, driving a 10kg/600rpm f-w. Arm tube made from a single piece of aluminium, housed in a giant bearing housing. DIY by darkenergy777 - UK - Sun, 8 Oct 2006 12:12pm
